This is deeply written , so filled with humanity and the inhuman , and the nobility of Ichi , and his good friend , the heroics of the Teacher... I wish Western drama were as deep and human. Beautifully acted and written.

The young lovers at the beginning made me tear up with sadness
This has become my most favorite episode. The story is both beautifully written and challenging, bittersweet and poignant, but it has a reward to the audience in the end. Personally this is Shintaro Katsu's great work as a director.
This doesn't just showcase katsu,s superior acting and swordsmanship but his directing skills, easily one of my heroes up there with Bruce Lee x RIP to these geniuses

Very nice chambara with the great Shintaro Katsu in the main role as Ichi. With his lightning fast swordsmanship and moral code he cares about the ubiquitous downtrodden, luckless, and forlorn, marginalized people. Although he learned to wield a sword only to gain respect, Ichi finds his skill constantly in demand by criminal gangs.

I realize this is probably set in 1500s Japan or late 1400s ,but I would love to see Zatoichi standing on the beach when the Mongols invaded.
This is set much later, around 1840's if I recall. If he was there when the Mongols invaded, they wouldn't have needed the Kamikazes.
@@controlleddemolition9112 The only reason I said late 1500s is because sometimes they show people using early style muskets ,but I could be wrong.
@@SlickRickDownSouth Read the book "Giving Up the Gun" by Noel Perrin & you'll understand why old muskets & arquebuses were still being used in 1800's Japan. Strict gun control under the Tokugawa shogunate. It's a little book that's worth reading 🤘
