at first i accidentally watched in 144p and thought "wow that's unforgiveable" and then realized my mistake so now it looks less disappointing to me in comparison lol.
If I understand correctly I read i n other tests , the internal recording is clearer than what you see in real time. So in real time, the passthrough is grainier. Hopefully this will be fixed with an upgrade
The internal recording is the same, but ofc if you see the content enlarged, you will see all grain and all nitty details. It was very hard to read my phone display and the flickering / light waves beginning at ruclips.net/video/lGg3mBOfW6M/видео.html is really annoying. I already recorded one more video, where you can see my phone screen and the new MR demo.
One more thing to add: the image is not that stable. There is definitely ghosting going on, like smeering Image while turning your head, with differences between left and right eye. Maybe something you can get used to.
Same, super grainy. I'll try again tommorrow during the day and let some sunlight in to see if theres a difference. I wished they used cameras as good as my $100 phone ffs.
How is your lighting? I had quite a few troubles in the evening, more lights help a lot. And while the recording looks nice and crispy, it was still grainy in the headset.
It looks to me like the passthrough is only slightly better than quest 2 but with colors. I find any mixed reality that was advertised will be terrible with this pass-through on my headset
I have an expensive grow light I use to grow plants as it mimics the sun I tried that to have the best lighting and it’s a super cool white light and it’s super grainy and my phone is either pure white or I turn the brightness down and it flickers like the refresh rate is off and the normal pass through is grainy
Have you also tried capturing video in bright daylight for comparison? Sometimes grow lights have a limited light spectrum, which might look fine to us but can affect how a camera sensor picks it up. I've noticed that the passthrough on my setup is also grainy but looks significantly better in actual video footage. Boosting the room lighting really improves the passthrough- I use around 300 watts of lamps in my setup.
It's normal! This was in a very bright lit room. Especially in the evening, quality is much worse. With the current updates, at least distortion got much better.
The best part, you don't need to fake it off. As long as you're in passthrough, the guardian will not trigger and I can fluently switch between rooms. So great, as it doesn't pull me out of VR
It's really dependent on lighting conditions. The video recording always look much better than the picture in the headset. Many thought they might have received faulty headsets, but they all perform pretty similar in passthrough. I was disappointed in the beginning about the quality, but in the end I got used to it - it's really good enough and much better than anything before
Is it possible to do manual labor with these on using the passthrough say at work? I work overnights and wondered if this was possible to make work a bit more fun. Thanks in advance
Hey, good question! Passthrough's pretty solid for moving around-I had no issues at home. It's way better than the Quest 2 for depth perception. But reading text isn't great and the visuals are kinda grainy. So, might be fun but depends on your job. Hope that helps!
Not really. I don't believe any kind of video feed is ever send to Meta. So it's only the mesh (that is also shared to app developers!). Not a big issue for me.
@@charyouIm interested in fhe Quest 3, but I cant deny that the history of poor data collection abuse does weigh on me heavily when using the device. Im glad its working out great for you though!
Funnily enough I even work in the advertising field, so it's pretty clear for me what kind of data is collected by meta, Google and even Apple. And what's it used for. They all had their scandals, but they all matured pretty well (much higher sensitivity to that topic, better standards to secure data and prevent abuse)
bro i got the quest 3 and its quality is not that good as i shown in the video it's like less vibrant and blurry and a lot warp but inside oh it's fire ok bye 😊
It always looks much better in recordings. That was recorded straight out the headset, but the screen is too small to really see the issues. The quality is far from perfect, though I had nearly perfect lighting conditions in this recording
Bro my meta quest 3 dosent look even a tiny bit as good as that Its grainy as shit i cant read anything too and yes i updated to the latest update rn im awating my return shipment label
Still a giant advantage compared to expensive devices like HoloLens and could eventually catch up with this I see nothing wrong with color pass through mode and I'm glad I bought the one for 128gb it still took a huge chunk of money out of my wallet but it was worth it.
I'm glad you enjoy your purchase. I still look for more, especially on the software side, which is still lacking (like media streaming, better sync with my mobile and cloud). But that's due to one point only .. the device is so much fun and I would love to use it for Netflix, Disney 3D movies and all in all for much longer durations
Yeah, I get you. The passthrough quality felt like watching years old iphone footage on a big 65" TV to me-pretty grainy. It looks better on a smaller screen like a phone, for sure. I also noticed some crazy flickering depending on the lighting, especially with LEDs. Fingers crossed they fix that. On the bright side, it adapts really well to different light conditions. So it's got that going for it!
Just outside the tab, there is a border. You can grab that to move it closer or further away. I'm not quite happy with the current solution, but it works
Hand tracking is on another level compared to Quest 2-like night and day. Much more responsive, much less lag. With the controllers, you even get an in-MR display showing your current battery status, which is a slick touch. As for the sunlight warning, couldn't really test that out since it's overcast today.

They shouild be able to fix the flicker - just needs the shutter speed of the cameras to match the light. @@charyou

my pass through is soo grainy, ive read a few people having this buti defo couldnt look at my computer screen with it on and look at a browser?

I want the quest 3 so bad I had my quest 2 for about 3 years now and I want color 😭
Doesn't it make you feel like "Johnny Mnemonic" (a 1995 keanu Reeves movie)
mine does NOT look like that in any shape
The pass through looks nothing like this at all
Get better lighting

ngl with quest 3 full colour passthrough you wont even need home environment background as you csn use the real world as your home screen background
