Hey Zach I feel like I struggle with jumps when I play. Im practicing a song called Ghost of Tsushima: the way of the ghost
in some parts have like medium jumps. So I tend to struggle on playing piano when I’m playing to parts in the song while moving my hands.. it’s pretty tough.
I honestly get frustrated with it and I tend Two give up and just put the piano away. I also suck with the sheet music I tried to practice it but it was taking forever for me to learn and to just have fun with the melodies
So I just do what my brain can handle watch RUclips tutorials in to see if that would help me.
And there’s songs well a lot of songs that I like but half of them big jumps on the left hand while on your right hand you’re playing entirely different part as well
and it’s like I don’t know where to keep my eyes at because when I play I have to hurry up and look at the left hand to see where my hand lands and I have to look at my right hand to to see where that’s playing to otherwise I’ll just mess up
For someone like me I’ve definitely been playing piano for like 11 to 12 years and I feel like I still suck :( but I could definitely play some songs it’s just the difficulty that gets to me and frustrates me

Look up "The Entertainer" tutorial on youtube, there are several out there. Practice the left hand rhythm daily, which contains a lot of difficult jumps from a single bass note to a triad chord. That song has several interesting chords in the left hand that are challenging to hit right on the jump, and demand practice, which is what you should do every day without exception. Also you will be using the sustain pedal for the bass notes and that will develop your foot control also. Don't overthink it, this is simple muscle memory and will develop with time and practice. After you get the left hand part of the song down, add the right hand melody part, also very challenging but well worth the effort in the end with your left and right hands together, along with your foot. The beat is syncopated (just some of it) and that is difficult too and worth learning. Use your eyes for the left hand rhythm and jumps, and don't look at your right hand at all. It took me one year to play that song decently, so if I can do it, then so can you! Since it's a difficult song, once you learn it, all pop music songs will be very easy to learn and will seem basic to you. So keep at it! It's worth it!

JayWiseOne I'm surprised you have been playing piano 11 to 12 years and is having the problem you describe. That has to be a typo. Even after 5 years of playing piano the average person can play well enough to play keyboards with a band. Did you mean 11 to 12 months?

Try to keep your wrist relaxed when you play. When you "hit" the note you'll have to have some tension to press the notes down, but try to release RIGHT after and that should help. Also take a break if you've been practicing a while and work the right hand stuff

My problem: My left-hand pinky finger is pretty much no good anymore (surgery didn't fix it). Please, I can play CG (RIGHT hand, your video above) and find it easy (thanks to you!). But I cannot play the CGC with the LEFT hand (pinky won't reach). This will be an ongoing issue for me. How shall I compensate? Reverse the parts? (Play the CGC with right hand, and CG with left? Or?) Please make a suggestion that I can use "as a rule" in my case. THANK YOU!!! Paul and Maggie May (Sorry, I don't have facebook nor instagram.)
