- This is one of my most viewed videos from last year. So lets revisit this DIY incubator with a better video and more complete step by step instructions!
This video/incubator is designed for ball python eggs, but it should work with any reptile eggs as long as you're able to get the temps/humidity right! Животные
This is hands down one of the best videos for BP hobbyists. Period. I’m hoping for my first clutch this spring and I’ll be building this. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience.
Thanks 5004! Good luck with your 1st clutch!
Thank You.
I've watched a bunch of videos on diy incubators and was just about to pull the trigger on a mini-fridge to build my setup when I came across this video. Awesome instructions. Seems bulletproof!
Thank you for making this video.
Glad I could help!
Combining aquatics and BP incubation and both aspects being symbiotic while also integrating cost effectiveness is absolutely genius. If you legitimately invented this method, you deserve a Nobel prize or something close to it. Im going to start my first pairing of BP’s next fall (Super Pastel Genetic Stripe 0.1 to Butter Spotnose Ultramel 1.0) and im definitely using this method of incubation considering im also an avid aquarist as well. Keep up the good work! Great video
I did not come up with it, but it 100% works!
Fantastic video. Thanks for the detailed explanation. This is a great solution for a very small breeder like me. Cheers!
Thanks Scott! It's the #1 option for small breeders! I'd still be using it if it was feasible.
So glad I saw this video! I need to build one for our first ever clutches
You can do it!
Cool video!
Thx Coyote!
Killed it. Awesome DIY. I have 2 spare 500 watt aquarium heaters. prob get me some poached eggs with those ahahaha . Good work bro
Haha, you might! If they have a dial they may work?!
@@SNKELTD I think they would. I have smaller ones too. i am considering trying the cooler for sure
Really enjoy your videos man. I really take a lot from them. You cover it all from start to finish. Keep it up! I watch them all :)
Your snakes are gorgeous!
Thanks for the kind words and for watching Lacey!
I just got a zoo med fridge style and i wish i had seen this video a couple days ago lol but i think im still going to try this thanks for the pointers brother.... I need them my first clutch im so pumped i am so nervous to mess up tho🤞🤞🤞
Good luck! I was stressed out too, but the incubator worked flawlessly on my 1st clutch! Just test it thoroughly before eggs drop
Dude yours is the one I’m making that’s really cool man thanks for the info you give to everyone I’m new I started with one Ball female fire het clown now in up to 8 and now I’m doing rats too much love from my fam to yours homie
This is just like the ones I build. Garrett Hartle from Reach Out Reptiles made these years ago.
That's where I got the idea from. I mentioned him in my 1st video from last year. A great build!
I like also having a thermostat that the aquarium heater plugs into so that if it starts going crazy and overheating I don't burn my eggs because it will turn them off.
Will this format work for any species of snake. I’ve got colubrids that need it a fair amount cooler than 90 and I’m assuming I can just lower the temps but I’ve never done this and figured I’d play it safe and ask your opinion. Ps I’ve got snake room envy for sure. Your setup is so organized and it makes my heart happy lol….
Edit: sorry my dude; asked and answered. You addressed this but I asked before I finished the video. Cheers.
PPS- where do you get the little clip tags on the hatchling rack tubs?
Thx man! I buy mostly everything from Amazon!
If you sold these I'd buy
I'm only expecting 1 clutch so the Styrofoam cooler (was used to ship frozen steaks) I'm planning to use is only big enough for 1 egg box. Do I still need the water to be circulating? Or can I just put in the water heater and be good? The box will be sitting directly over it 🤷🏻♀️
I used vermiculite instead of pearlite
Will a typical tiny storage bin work? Or does it need a locking, really tight sealed lid? I'm worried water vapor might get inside the lid of the one I got without a tight locking lid, and might condense on top and drip down
Having trouble finding the light diffusing panels ??
I was thinking if you got a big glass door cooler couldnt u put a large container in the bottom with the water and heaters and power head in it and use the same method for heat humidity on the stand up cooler and have more room for egg boxes. Most of the stand up coolers I see built in videos have just an open space in the bottom under the shelves. Just wondering if this .method would work rather than running heat tape in the stand up coolers or even a fridge.
I've thought about that but never tested it. You would probably need to have some amazing air circulation get the moisture all the way around the incubator and at 99%.
Is oxygen on the inside an issue?
Specifically when the eggs are hatching and the snakes are out and moving around and needing oxygen?
Maybe a dumb question but just wondering
Thank you for sharing. If you have full humidity, i wonder why the substrate is needed in the individual egg box.
You can't sit it flat in a tub. If there's condensation they will be sitting in water. I use pearlite as a precaution, but technically they don't need substrate. Just something to sit them on above the plastic
Thanks for asking this question and thanks BlindStryke for answering. I’ve wondered the same thing and couldn’t find an answer anywhere!
Since you don’t need the substrate to retain humidity, but instead to keep the eggs from sitting in water, I wonder if you could use something more reusable like a couple of PVC pipe connectors to hold up the light diffuser within the shoe box. Those could then be sterilized and used over and over. 🤔
You could really use whatever you want as long as the eggs are off the bottom.
@@SNKELTD did you have any issues with eggs molding?
Can you use a regular small incubator like you would use for chickens?
I've never used one, but the issue with chicken incubators is that they rotate the eggs. BP eggs need to stay embryo side up.
What are the measurements for the pvc platform???😅
would a 175 gallon fish tank work with a plexiglass/acrilic lid work? instead of a cooler?
Probably not. the cooler retains the heat, a glass aquarium wouldn't
do you ever have to add more water due to evaporation?
Never. There is no evaporation because the lid of the cooler stays closed. That's why it works perfectly!
@@SNKELTD I'm hoping to start breeding in a year or 2 so this is awesome keep up the awesome work
Thanks Taylor! Good luck to you!
@@SNKELTD There doesnt need to be any air flow? it can be completely sealed? Even when they start to pip? that confuses the crap out of me. Ive watched 5 videos on these an nobody really talks about air.
Does it matter if I use tap water or should I use Destilled water?
I used tap. You may want to dechlorinate
@@SNKELTD we’ve got the liquid stuff to take out the chlorine and stuff.
Do you sell these?
Snakes, yes.
Incubators, no
It’s amazing snakes reproduce in the wild without incubators LOL.
Temperature is not 90°F all the time in the wild and humidity is not 99% all the time in the wild either.
It does not have to be perfect for it to work, it works in the wild with fluctuating temps and humidity day and night.
And do you have the statistics for hatch rate in the wild? That's the point of keeping consistent temperatures and humidity in captivity. To maximize hatch rate.
Humans can survive without modern medicine, but are you going to refuse it if needed?
@@SNKELTD Yes, most of them hatch in the wild with no problem. I’m not saying this is wrong, it is actually a very nice way of incubating them inexpensively, but there is no need to be perfect all the time. In the wild temperatures fluctuate day and night, that’s all I’m saying.
