Hello Sir! Its your old friend Stewart, that was some night! and Yes it was really. As people have been saying I am now working in Dublin Airport still selling whiskey.
@@WhiskeyVault You're welcome back any time Daniel. Thanks for the enormously overly kind words -- and of course to Stewart for alerting me to this video's existence! Sincerest regards, Fionnan
@StewQ1979 and @fionnanoconnor5585 : Thanks for being truly magnificent bastards and showing Daniel a great time. So proud to call you fellow countrymen. Wonderful representatives of Ireland.
Daniel. I don't know if you've kept tabs of Fionnán's work, but he's currently crowdfunding to release his second book along with a single Cask from Boann Distillery. This book is based on the work he did for his PHD thesis on Irish Whiskey. If you've interested in looking into the book project is called "Créatúr".
What a fabulous story. These episodes are so absolutely delightful. I find myself grinning ear to ear, sometimes from funny revelations, just as often from brilliant philosophical insights. I feel so grateful for having been following Daniel and Rex (and Brianna) as they have just made our lives richer for knowing them.
I remember telling Stu the day you and Rex announced that you were headed to Ireland a few months before that; I wondered if he'd seen the channel. He looked at me and asked me "How do you whiskey?" - to which I countered with magnificence. I only wish I could've been there on the day. And I guarantee you that the Fionnán visit happens, I must send this to him and the rest of the Irish Whiskey Society folks
These are the stories that make whisky great. I just started reading A Glass Apart, and when you said the guy's name was Fionnan, I instantly said, "Holy crap, he drank with Fionnan O'Connor!" It was great to get that confirmation. The great thing about the whisky industry is that is seems to attract a lot of really cool people, and meeting them is always a joy.
Having lived in Ireland for a number of years, that was a very real thing to happen. I only read about the Aran Islands in college. Not long after moving there, I found myself as the head chef in a new hotel on the islands. Ireland is like that. Wonderful place altogether.
So glad you told this story over a Bushmills. My lone trip to Ireland was in 2007. It was the most memorable trip in my life. And one of the highlights of our visit was our tour of the Bushmills distillery, and we were sure to grab a bottle of their 12 year whiskey at the time.... Just glorious. Beyond that, Temple Bar in Dublin (during St. Patrick's Day!!!) was an absolute EXPERIENCE. We ended up staying at a castle hotel just south of the Cliffs of Moher, which ended up actually just being my friends that stayed there that night. My best friend forgot his passport on the OTHER SIDE OF THE COUNTRY, so we had to drive the entire night, back to the northern side of the island, in the dark, pick up the passport, and then drive back, no gas station for miles, until we found the only one open at 6am as we almost ran out. Lol. Every second of the trip was a memory we will cherish our entire lives. And that bottle of Bushmills 12 year was the cornerstone of how we celebrated it when we got back to the states. I long to return to that enchanted country. So many other things we experienced that i cant fit here, and the people there are the most accommodating humans on the PLANET. Treated us like kings, just as you said. I love Ireland. Glad you enjoyed it too! 👍💯🇮🇪☘️
Whiskey and story telling go hand in hand. And when you are in Ireland, the stories are priceless. I recall our trip to Ireland in 9-2017. We were staying in Doolin and hung out in Gus O' Conner's Pub. Met wonderful people, listened to great music and experienced the craic! Keep the stories and whiskey coming Daniel. Slainte!
Daniel, definitely a very cool story. My wife is of Irish decent and she has family there (Aunts. Uncles, cousins, etc.) We have been together for almost 6 years and try and make a trip there yearly. I"m hooked on Irish whisky now. Btw, she has a nephew named Fionnan as well, unfortunately not the one from your story. I'll need to get those books now. Thanks again for sharing.
Living in Dublin L Mulligan was always my favourite spot to go in and look for cool and interesting whiskies. Attended my first live tasting there with Glenmorangie, a major loss for Dublin whisky lovers 💔
The odds of bumping into Fionnán at the Whiskey Palace (2nd floor of Palace Bar) are pretty good. I've been to two educational seminars with him there, the last one on Poitin. Dude is a legend. -- I thought it odd to be drinking a Belfast whiskey while talking about Dublin, but that B12 is good stuff.
That's an amazing bleeping story, I mean to meet an author of your favourite book, and not know it in the moment. Absolutely great story and this is why I love your new format.
I DID request a video of your behind-the-scenes trip to Middleton, and you FINALLY obliged! Thank you. I hope this is only part 1 with more to follow. I do like the new venue/format. Nobody likes change. Everybody likes progress. Let's see how this progresses!
What an amazing story. I found myself grinning from ear to ear well after the video was over. Thanks for sharing and I'm really enjoying the new format!
Years and years performing around the music industry, and your fan-boy moment involves a whiskey book in Ireland. You're definitely in the right place now Br, and we MBs are better for it. Respect-Love-Support

Daniel thanks for not shying away from the Whiskey Tribe past and recognizing the impact it's had on all of us. This was another great story that also had a great message. Thank you for sharing and for what you do!
I have an empty 12 year bushmill it was a distillery only bottle years ago. We did the bushmill distillery the 21 years was very reasonable at the time it was about $10 a pour. Then walked to the 3 pubs in town on the way back to the hotel. Was a great time
I love this format Daniel. It's like we're sitting in a bar and having a drink together. Just that you don't get to hear my amazing stories. I once shouted to Queen Elizabeth to "Fucking sit down!" she looked for a chair...
Daniel this format is so engaging. It’s as if we were enjoying a dram together and sharing life experiences. BTW I had Bushmills 12 on my list trying to determine if I should buy. Based on your comments I’m buying. Cheers 🥃
I’m not going to lie about it I miss Rex …but I like both of you so I’m still watching and enjoying the new version. The stories you tell are enlightening and interesting so I’ll keep watching keep it going I’ll be by on day Peace from the beach. Myrtle bch sc
What a GREAT story Daniel, thank you for taking us along on that whiskey journey. Dublin is on my bucket list and I just ordered a Bushmills 12 from a local liquor store. Thank you again and keep up the great work.
That is amazing, Daniel. F'ing cool. You need to try Limivady if you haven't. Former Bushmill distiller -- my new favorite Irish whiskey. Like butter...
Currently enjoying a pour of Lagavulin 16, toasting to the legend Iain McArthur who has now retired after 50 years in Islay’s distilleries. A familiar face in both Parks and Rec and Offerman’s Lagavulin commercials. Wondering your take, Daniel, on the passing of the torch from industry icons, how distilleries should take that opportunity to rebrand, innovate, celebrate, or stay the course?
My fave story you told us till the new format. But I still don’t understand why you felt embarrassed ! I would have done the same if I were in your position 😅😂🤣
My experience with Irish whiskey is *EXTREMELY* limited, but I like the basic Bushmills. One of these days I want to experiment more with Irish stuff - but so much whisky, so little time...and in my case, so little money. 🙂
Fabulous story Daniel and also dovetails nicely with your story about always saying Yes. I am sure quite a few would have called it a night rather than going to Fionnan's apartment. But you said Yes. This Bushmills 12 is around the same price as my go to single malt Scotches. I generally buy one bottle at a time and when it is gone, get another that I like. Do you recommend making an investment into several bottles? how long will they last on the shelf if properly corked? 5 bottles bought at the same time will last as long (theoretically) as 5 bought consecutively. Is the variety worth the initial cost? What does the group think?
I always like to have at least 3 to 5 totally different styles of whiskey and you could probably stop with that. You get a better and more interesting experience when you're able to AB compare between them and they will definitely last as long as if you bought them in consecutive order, as long as you're not constantly opening and closing them.
@@WhiskeyVault Thanks, Daniel. I have a new bottle of Laphroig 10 (State stores in VA charge way too much for the Lag 16) think I will get a Bushmills 12 if I can, about the same price as the Laph. Then a nice Rye as a change (love to use Rye in an OF especially in the fall. Cinnamon infused simple syrup goes well with the Rye) Love the stories!!
I have been to so many distilleries and their tours and whiskey museum is the best! I thibk I have been 3 or 4 times. Each time got different flight to try.
I love their saying, "the best whiskey is the whiskey you like to drink the way you like to drink it," because I love me some Bushy. But I've had their 10, 12, and 16 and they are totally not worth it IMO. I much prefer basic Bushy, red Bush, or Black bush over the other three.
You shouldn't feel embarrassed, he didn't know that you knew his book. He was treating you honestly and would probably treat anyone, who showed an interest, the same.
Loving the new format. Finally we're back to talking about whisky, life, and whisky life. Shouty McShoutFace and his minions can have the Tribe for shouty content.

Cheers to this. But what a great story, I can only imagine these two talking whiskey three sheets to the wind after closing time in Dublin.
