The more you handle Retics the more they’re gonna wanna come out of their enclosure. They’ll go on what I like to call their patrol cycle because Retics are always on the move and always curious of new surroundings. How you raise them when they’re still young determine how the act as adults. This is even more true with Cottonmouths

Sorry to be the one who starts telling others how it should be, etc. ...but i just want to post some insights in case anyone thinks it's helpful:
Due to the natural environment from which these animals are derived (80%+ humidity), many captive Reticulated Pythons have problems shedding and can have problems eliminating- then subsequently- eating problems.
It is simply very difficult to re- create their natural habitat and its humidity levels on a consistent basis.
I've had really good luck in caring for my animal's skin and digestion, as well as in working with him and helping him be calm with handling- by setting up a reptile "bath tub" (plastic totes with lids and added air ventilation! cheap!) for him and letting him soak- around two times daily for at least 20 minutes each time up to several hours... depending on if he's shedding or just ate. He gets to chose how long- within reason.
He seems to love soaking in the "tub" (and his skin is SHINY!), and the handling which results from his daily bathing rituals means he is very used to his routines, handling, and even seems to expect bath time.
He also spends time napping in a pouch (secured safely with air ventilation), wrapped in a blanket in his "basket" (Supervised- usually while I'm cleaning his tub and setting it up- he likes to "watch" from the wire hanging plant basket we got for only $1 at the dollar store), or being held (wrapped gently in a blanket which he cannot bite thru- for safety and to allow him to feel "HIDDEN" while I'm holding him), before or after his bath, and he is assisted in making B.M (outside on nice days or in a bucket/storage tote- easily cleaned-up), BEFORE returning to his enclosure.
Allowing him to stretch out and climb on either myself (i support his body and let him smell/see things), a few contained shelves, the top of his enclosure, or his 2 bird toys (perching toys for parrots, cockatiels, etc.- got 1 on sale/Clearance only $4!!! Usually about $30!), is usually enough to move his digestion along and it keeps his enclosure clean longer, and he looks happy with the amount of exercise he gets- he never looks bored.
I strongly feel that by always keeping him COMFORTABLE, allowing him to FEEL SAFE while handling, and consistently providing for his NEEDS and wants (take time to know about them, as stated in the video), he has learned to trust that i mean him no harm and I'm caring for him. (Retics are also pretty lazy so he is definitely motivated by resting in pouches and only peeking out when he wants to.)
He also has a lot of freedom of CHOICE in this routine- and i feel that makes a huge impact on his behaviors... For example, the order of bathing, climbing/playtime, resting/cuddling is all determined by what HE CHOOSES... And he almost always COOPERATES with me. (One time he DIDN'T cooperate with going back into his enclosure when i wanted him too.... Turns out he had to make a B.M.! Learned a lesson THAT DAY!)
If he seems sleepy, i let him rest in his pouch or being held in his blankie, then after 20 minutes or so, up to a few hours, try to wake him up gently by asking "Are you ready to take a bath?" I repeat this phrase, and also switch to others, asking "Do you want to go OUTSIDE?" or "Do you need to go POTTY?" i try different phrases, and eventually, carry him to his bathtub and see how he reacts...
(These phrases are used repeatedly in conjunction with said activity and i even state them differently, emphasizing the main/important word(s)- such as BATH. It is similar to training a dog to "Go Outside.")
...He usually shows me how he feels and what he wants to do at that point... He can climb into his bath, or climb on the shelf it's on- then i know it's "playtime", and he is assisted in stretching out and safely exploring.
    ☺😁☺
*I think treating them gently and with respect is what makes the difference.*
...And what you said in the video- take the time to LEARN what your pet likes and does not like.
    ♥🐍♥

I don’t have a snake yet, and can’t wait to get the kind I fell in love with, the western hog nose. I was curious what u thought about snakes being kept in tiny drawers without any hides or enrichment whatsoever. They aren’t even on any bedding. Just a piece of paper. I think it’s so so wrong. There’s people like snake Discovery that has a rack system. But they r the correct size and have bedding, hides (usually one on each end hot and cool side) they have enrichment like plants and branches too. And my favorite is Dingo Dinkelman. He keeps his snakes in tip top shape. He has all venomous snakes.
Anytime, I was wondering what u felt about habitat.

Hi, I've been watching your videos on DIY enclosure with PVC sheets. I'm finding it difficult to find half-inch 4 x 8 PVC sheets in my area so I may need to order them. I was wondering if you had any further details on the type of plastic yours are made of (one place asked me if it needs to be FDA compliant..??) and if you recall the price per 4 x 8 sheet? Thanks so much!
