With the pinch bolt ball joint, I drilled out the ball joint rivets, left it attached to the hub, and bolted it back afterwards.

Well done, I couldn't do that, getting a drill aligned was too difficult for me and gave that up. Why they didn't continue with the bolt-on ball joints that were fine, only main dealer garages are to know

Very helpful video! I will have to replace my front struts soon and though I did it many times, I've been watching you video with interest, just to refresh my old experience. Thumb up!

Thank you my friend, this job on my jag started out with a faulty injector and keeps getting bigger with more and more issues the more I dig. I shouldn't complain as she has been trouble free for many years up to now. Rusty stuff is worse than I thought and now I have to weld bits of the skills which seem poorly made with tissue paper :-)

@@HatBoyHarvey Right you are, sills are definitely a weak point of this car. I had one of them changed in a workshop. What a pity I wasn't a RUclipsr then and I didn't film it.

Great video the only thing I’d add is when torquing a wishbone bush bolt always jack up the suspension or put weight back on the vehicle otherwise your tightening it in the incorrect position and pre loading the bush before it tries to accommodate vehicle movement

Yep, did that, didn't show it as it wasn't easy to film and most don't bother as many don't believe it makes a jot of difference. No one cames back saying their joints came loose!, but I get your point :-)

Glad to see you are back in action and able to crack that conundrum. It looks like you've done a very thorough job and provided a clear and professional guide. Would a light coating of graphite grease be suitable for the driveshaft splines? Also I must say Uncle Bob's simple accomodation does rather appeal to the hermit in me.

Thanks, back still very sore and having to put ice on it at night to sleep, leg also sore with ailing LCL injury. I need to get the Jag on the road, hence all the Jag videos, then I can return to the Fabia to continue its resto as I want to use that for work rather than getting lifts on Bob's old tandem :-)

Remove the 3 top 13mm nuts first than you can drop the whole leg .

In this case the spring was pressing on the underside of the turret so I had to do it as shown in the video :-)

Good Video, I have a 57 Facelift X type 2D love it. but due to potholes I managed to break the OSF spring and top bearing.
I used to do all my own repairs but am nearly 80 and recently broke my leg so entrusted the work to my local garage. Now that I have the car back it has a nasty knocking noise which I think is coming from the top bearing which is probably a parts factor one rather than an original part. I notice the top nut has more exposed thread than the NS one so I guess the spacer might have been thrown in the bin together with the old bearing : ( So armed with the information I've just seen, I'm off back to garage now to see if they can sort it for me! Thanks for posting the very informative and helpful video.

You're welcome, one thing to note with these is the spring needs to be installed the right way up, if not it will start to make noises like you mention. Check the noises isn't coming from the other side that one maybe on it's way out any time soon also :-)

Further to my knocking problem, it turns out that there are two different springs for the X Type. The garage fitted the wrong one to mine! As I said in my original; comment I have a 57 Face lift model which is fitted with "SPORT" suspension, the garage fitted a normal spring. I would have thought they would have noticed the difference when changing it, but obviously not! The sport has less coils but are stronger than the standard spring. I noticed the knocking noise within a couple of hundred yards of collecting the car! It went back in yesterday for the correct spring to be fitted, now all is back to normal. They didn't charge me the second time. But its worth a mention to check you have the correct spring before finding out the hard way. The sport spring was about £15 more expensive than the normal spring so I had the pay the difference. I didn't mind but did wonder if they would have refunded the difference had it been the other way round!
