Really enjoyed this one. That whole area could be a great attraction for LA (San Pedro is part of LA ). I loved it when they re-installed the red line there....but sad it lasted only a dozen years. The USS Iowa and the Maritime Museum are great places to visit. Thank you!
@@nates.vintage.trains I think you'd enjoy. It's housed in what was one of 2 identical ferry buildings that faced each other on opposite sides of the ship channel. The ferry service was replaced by the Vincent Thomas Bridge. When i was a child living in Miraleste, we took the ferry to get to Terminal Island then home to a large Navy base (where my oldest brother was stationed) and shipyard. So if/when you go, be sure to note things pertaining to the building itself. Thanks again.
This is kinda sad, we were there the day it opened. We still have the items that were passed out for opening day. I must have ridden the trolly a million times. I hate to assume there are no plans on putting it back, hope the trollies go someplace to be used and not scrapped. Thanks for your time, effort and posting.......
Great video. Hopefully the cars can be used somewhere vs being turned into scrap. I know the National Transportation Museum is always looking for another trolly car. They have a small trolly line for visitors to the museum. It’s in Kirkwood, Missouri.
If they do not get used again, I hope they will be donated to the Southern California Railway Museum. They practically already have a monopoly on surviving Pacific Electric trolleys.
GREAT VIDEO ! ALL OF THIS WAS ONCE THE PACIFIC ELECTRIC , SOUTHERN PACIFIC WEST BASIN LINE ! IT'S A SHAME CORPERATE GREED KILLED THE RED CAR AGAIN ! BUT PACIFIC ELECTRIC SHALL RISE AGAIN !
Well, not corporate greed, but the Port of Los Angeles (who owned and operated the red cars). The pacific electric is still alive and well at the Southern California Railway Museum in Perris, CA.
@@nates.vintage.trains YES PACIFIC ELECRIC IS ALIVE AND WELL AT THE S.C.R.M , BUT CORPERATE GREED IS ALIVE AND WELL ALSO , THE REVAMPING OF THE RED CAR AT SAN PEDRO IS A WONDERFUL REMINDER OF WHAT THE RED CAR IS ! BUT THERE ARE SOME ASPECTS OF THE REBUILDING OF THE PORT OF LOS ANGELES THAT DO NOT INCLUDE TROLLEY SYSTEM , THAT NEEDS TO CHANGE , SOME OF THE POLITICIONS NEED TO REALIZE THE TROLLEY SYSTEM WOULD HELP THE SAN PEDRO PROJECT ! WITH THE RIGHT BACKING ,THE SAN PEDRO RED CARS WILL RETURN ! CERTAIN THINGS ARE GONNA CHANGE ,THEY SHALL RETURN !
I am 73 years of age, a life long fan of Pacific Electric. Some of your facts are wrong. Pacific Electric was incorporated October 29, 1901. The Long Beach line opened July 4, 1902. I saw the construction of the reproduction cars as well as attending the opening day. Such a shame that it is gone. 1058 was built by Richard Fellows from a Los Angeles Pacific car. His boat yard was very near the marine oil terminal that my grandfather ran.

i have been to the Iowa a few times, but never the Maritime Museum.

@@PUAlum. Aren't they planning to bring back the red cars in SP?

I hope that the three trolleys, if they are not reopened, go to the Southern
California Railway Museum in Perris, CA
I had the opportunity to ride the Big Red cars from LA to San Pedro just before service ended back in the 60's I believe.
Quite a ride!
I am sure it was.

@@johnrobertfox7775 Sure hope so
Great video! It's a shame they did away with the red car, again!!!! I wonder what the plans are for the cars?
At this point, the red cars would have to be light rail street running instead. I doubt anything will ever happen.
Cool Video 😃 Good job 👍
i thought the San Pedro Waterfront Red Cars was coming back ?
I highly doubt it.
@@nates.vintage.trains why are they still torning up the rail line :(

Thank you for the information.
One correction. At 6:17 that is the old station on the right. Did you manage to see what they turned it into?
They demolished the station and built a brand new set of bathrooms. thanks for telling me where it was.
Great Video Nate
Damn you, Judge Doom! lol
so sad 😢😭
Was the only reason why they shut down this line due to the planned waterfront construction? Or were there other reasons in addition to that?
As far as I know, it was for construction. I do not know of any other reasons.
Nice Video Nate
of this line never re opens I hope the trolleys go to the socal railways museum or at least the western railway museum up north
SoCal Railway Museum I hope. Thats the best option if it never come back.
