    Love the way the southbound 110 guides you right in.

      It's one of those rare easy access exits in LA, unlike most of South Bay. One of my favorite aspects of the port!

    Should add that it is much easier to go through drop off areas FIRST and check your large bags before parking. Then you don't have to drag all your large checked luggage around the lot.
    Glad you didn't give away the secret route to avoid that back-up of people exiting the freeway (during the busier time). Thanks.

    Been thru this port a number of times. This is a very good video and it shows how easy it really can be. Traffic not withstanding. (it's about an hour drive South for us. Our rule of thumb is however you think it will take add an hour or more. Better to be there early that too late. This holds for the Port of Long Beach (next door( as well.😎

      Thanks for watching! I'm from LA, so I always pad my time, too. I double the travel time during rush hour.

      Nope. Just come in. I would not come too late, but there's usually plenty of parking. Use your credit card to enter and exit.

    This was very interesting and informative. Thank you for taking the time to create this video.
    I'm curious to know how long the whole boarding process took.
    We are scheduled to check in at 11:30am for a 3:00pm sailing.
    Is there somewhere nearby to grab a cup of coffee or a bite to eat while we wait? Or should we expect to be involved in the boarding process during that whole stretch of time?
    Thanks again for the great video!

      The whole process took about 20 - 25 minutes, which isn't bad. That was with a decent crowd. Staff kept lines flowing, so it went smoothly. To make this easier, I'd eat ahead of time and just stick with the boarding process. Based on my past cruise, that's what I would do if I used this port again.
      There isn't any cafe on site, unless you count vending machines. The closest restaurant is the Green Onion Mexican Restaurant, 145 West 6th Street, about a 15 minute walk south from Harbor Blvd. I've never been there, but I seen lots of good reviews on the Cruise Critic Boards. Continue west on 6th street for another block and you'll find Hoja's Tea House and Buono's Pizzeria. I hope that helps.
      Have a great cruise and thank you for your kind words!

    Hi there, I am going to finish a cruise at this port in Sept2024 and it appears to be an issue finding a way into city/sunset blvd? do you have a recomenation for a newbie that won't cost heaps - thanks

    • @ThePortLowdown
      @ThePortLowdown  3 месяца назад +1

      Hi! Actually this question opens up alot of other questions. How long do you plan to stay? Which part of Sunset? The street is quite long and runs from downtown in the center all the way past Beverly Hills and ends at Pacific Coast Highway. First thing is, what part of the city do you want to go to? For the famous Sunset Strip, that's West Hollywood near Beverly Hills. There are numerous hotels in the area, none of them cheap.
      Public transportation here is still pretty slow and inconvenient, so that leaves renting a car or using rideshare. San Pedro is a good 45 - 1 hour away from Downtown, about the same for the Santa Monica and the Westside. Traffic permitting, of course. There are two car rental places within a 15-20 min walk of the port on 6th Street: Hertz and Enterprise. Enterprise is higher rated.
      If I have a more detailed idea of your plans, I could help more. Let me know.

      @@ThePortLowdown thanks for your reply, my apologies on mine being so late...things have changed now so I'm not ending in the this port afterall, but thanks for your time in responding😃

    Do they have a shuttle for car rentals?

    • @ThePortLowdown
      @ThePortLowdown  4 месяца назад

      Not that I know of. There are two car rental offices within a 15-20 min walk from the port - Hertz and Enterprise, both on 6th Street. Enterprise is much higher rated than Hertz. Enterprise does not offer a shuttle, but if you take Uber or Lyft, they'll take 10 dollars off your rental.
      I'll be in San Pedro this week for a cruise and follow up video. I'll look into this issue on the ground and put it in the new video.
      Hope that helps a bit.
