    I miss the old Ports ‘O call 😢😢

    I miss the glass blowers shop, the store with Red Skeleton's clown paintings, the old warf smells, the candy shop, and the old style architecture. The same with old Town Mall in Torrance. The place looks too stainless steel and boxy. More for a condo sports crowd in mind. No small shops or character.

      My sister misses the small shops selling merchandise, she was sad that yhe store that's old her favorite Bob Marley screen printed sweatpants is gone. 😢
      This place is going to become just another boring yuppie paradise.

    Port of Call in San Pedro was the only spot on the Los Angeles coast where Chicanos could go and not be made to feel like outsiders, but I guess wealthy developers didn't like that and had to obliterate the entire site to scare away the Mexicans.

      Took my latina wife there and she said it was hood. Indeed it did feel like choloville, full of riff-raff and roughnecks. I'm glad they're developing it and look forward to giving it another shot. I agree with you, doubt the previous patrons will find this new uppity joint fitting as us normal folk will be taking over. We enjoy a beautiful venue that includes quality food, drinks, and peace. 😉

      Never had any problems there myself. You could already take your "normal folk" pride to the many seaside locations that are predominantly attended by "normal folk" in Southern California. @@twczzkm

      @@gregfalco4528 Most people prefer a non-raidernation environment. Don't you? Or do you thrive off that bravado where homies are ready to snap at moments notice? For me, that vibe is whack. In any case, there's places like Whittier or possibly Lacy Street where vatos can still go and kick it.

    • @gregfalco4528
      @gregfalco4528 10 месяцев назад

      But that's the problem, you see Mexicans and automatically assume they are all "Raider Nation". If brown people frighten you, you can hang out on 3rd Street Promenade, or Manhattan Beach.@@twczzkm

    As a San Pedro resident this is great but they really need to clean up this city of all of the mentally ill and drug addicts who roam freely, committing crimes and no police to patrol the neighborhoods. This city has over 2,000 registered sex offenders and no one talks about it. Shame on the city council and whatever so called mayor that runs this crappy town. All they care about are getting kickbacks to approve of these projects and forget about its constituents who work hard for their families who deserve a better ran town.

      It is absolutely shameful this area that they have did. There was a beautiful beautiful Community Family Development Area back in the '80s and '90s. They've destroyed it. Now it is so commercial it is pathetic. No they're not talking about the families there that are homeless. They're not talking about the veterans there that are homeless. They turn this into a tourist trap. San Pedro was one of the last small true Community towns with historical importance that was still there in the old ports of call. How sad they lost it they destroyed it.

    What's the cost to taxpayers? Eric Johnson just said his private developement firm is in partnership with the city of LA. I just see a heist of taxpayer money. This site did not need developement, it was clearly attracting vistors as seen in news report.

      And for all the talk about the crime there are police and safety people on bikes patrolling the surrounding area. I grew up in San Pedro and moved to south LA for the past 15 years. I’ve lived in south LA, Ladera heights, view park and most recently Inglewood. I recently moved a block from Cabrillo beach and I am beyond happy to be home in my small town in the big city. Simply put I’ve been in the big city and not to minimize the crime in San Pedro because it does exists but while living in south LA i saw people shot in broad daylight so my view on crime maybe a little different from someone who has lived here their entire life. I am beyond excited for this to open!
