I got married when I was 19 and my hubby was 24. We knew and loved each other for years before we got married. When we got married I was in University, 4th semester. My first son was born the next year and my second son born 2 years later. When I graduated my second son was 5 months young. My hubby has supported me the whole time without demanding for me to have to have a corporate job after graduating. University is just a way to seek knowledge and hoping for Allah's blessings.
My hubby doesn't have a college degree up until now and it has never been a problem in our marriage. He is strong and responsible. After graduating I stayed at home, manage the house, and take care of the children. We now have 5 children and my first son is 12 years old.
At the beginning of marriage we didn't have much. Instead of immediately jumping on the "job wagon" I stayed at my post and supported my hubby at his endeavors to sustain our little family. Alhamdulillah in time our financial condition little by little improved and he is still the main provider of our family. He is also a good father who prepares his children for life, not just the typical throwing children into school and hoping for the best.
What's interesting is hubby's own upbringing. His father provided for the family and his mother stayed at home to take care of the children (4 boys and 1 girl). It was my father in law's wish and wisdom that their children needed their mother to be at home. Hubby said it was the best thing because he sees him and his siblings grew more stable emotionally and had better relationship with their parents and now have good and stable relationship with their spouses. May Allah pour down his rahmah upon us all.
I think this feminist thinking has also pulled down men to think of the wife as a burden if she doesn't make money. So, men become weaker and unashamed if the wife is bussy taking care of everything and on top of that having an income. In some families it's so bad that even the mother in law sees her daughter in law a burden to her son if she doesn't "work." This has taken a toll in many marriages.
Anyway, I follow Umm Khalid on Fb and am thankful that this Islamic gender roles are being appreciated more of its beauty and not as something backwards.

@apridai there is no saying that a man must have multiple wives. There is no condition for marrying multiple wives to show your manliness. Marrying to one person or multiple is not a sign of manliness.
The best of you are those who are best to their wife/wives. As long as brother Daniel is best to his only wife, then surely he is successful and Allah will reward him for it. May Allah protect him and his wife from evil eye and keep them in the right path. Ameen

@apridai it's not fear. It's called being committed. He is not obliged to marry another women even if he has the means.
Plus marriage is not fardh. So if one wants to remain single, he can do so.

    • @majidkhan89
      @majidkhan89 2 года назад +1

@apridai how is he bashing other men to have multiple wives in this video. I haven't checked other videos of his so I'm not sure he's doing that.
Plus there is no sin if one does not want to marry multiple wives. Whether they have the ability to do so, it is not shariah law that he take on multiple wives. There are millionaires who only have 1 wife.
Plus it's important we take account of the feelings of our wife and the struggles if men were to have multiple wives. Plus it's an even bigger responsibility for men to ensure he is equally treating his wives and satisfying them to meet their needs.

A very beneficial talk subhanallah, I love how honest @MuslimSkeptic Daniel was about the financial side of things, how men won't be put off by a successful woman if she is pious and the man is still the provider regardless. I love how Umm Khalid asked for clarity and reflected on Khadija (RA). This is really helping me a lot as an entrepreneurial woman, married now for 5 years with a husband who is revert, I am one year older (we married at 20 and 21. I recently decided before I try to have children I want to learn to homeschool with Umm Khalid and Daniels classes inshallah. I came from revert parents and not a strict practising background so I thank Allah (SWT) for blessing me with the convictions he did. Seeing Niqabi women doing such inspiration talks is so empowering as I would like to one day share my story in halal way to help others like you all have helped me. This year I finally started wearing hijab full time no one else empowered me me to wear it the same way no one told me to get married or homeschool etc. like I said these are the convictions I am grateful to from Allah (SWT) without him I am lost. I don't wear Niqab but if I did RUclips I would wear it as something in my heart makes me fear going public without it , may Allah guide me to wear it full time too in my day to day life If this is better for me. Yes, that is very true, parents don't teach their daughters to be a wife or a mother.
I don't have daughters, I have 3 sons, and I do my best to prep them to be the husband and father, the responsible person, the one who will be the head of his family, the role model, the loving husband and father who respect and cares for his wife and children.... however, the social media is so powerful, and the society norms are quite the opposite of this Islamic ideal... and I ask help from Allah to help my children understand.... as at this point of time, it seems they are more inclined to follow the current trend... this is the fact with most practicing Muslim families in secular societies....

The conversation is lacking a lot of layers. Economical abuse is not mentioned for instance as any many people pursue with academic education. In my opinion It would have been more insightful to speak about it, how to prevent it, how it is in a problem in western societies as in Islamic ones, rather than emphasising on feminism and connoting negatively.
If someone wants to focus on their marriage, on their career path, academic education, Mash'Allah, who are we to judge?
Also certain dynamics are working differently for many people.
I am Black dark-skinned person and I need to be financially independent in this world. Why?
I am not financially privileged and have to rely on myself.
Because colorism , featurism , anti-blackness, fetishization iare playing a huge role in many cultures around the world and with such factors, it is harder for me to find someone to settle to and take more time.
So what should I do during this time?
That's just a small insight of my perspective as you have many other, people suffering from physical, mental issues, ableism, etc...

    • @blumachine

yes this convo was lacking a lot of nuance and assumes that all men are willing to be these perfect husbands even if they find the perfect wife. @@blumachine Umma Khalid addresses this in her reaction video to feminist college debate.
It's about doing your role, and then trusting God.
You want to be "independent" because you're sacred of "domestic neglect"? Imagine a child is born in your hospital, and you say : we will take the child away from his parents because there's always a chance of "child-neglect".
It's not reasonable because EVERYTHING has risks.
It's about having the right intentions and doing the right things. Don't study/work for independence, that's not what God gave us as a role.
I found this example really helpful cause I struggled with mistrust in men.
Have the right intentions for whatever (permissible) act you do, and leave the rest to Allah.

But I do understand what the brother and sister are saying, surround yourselves with enough degenerates at university and you shall become one. Not to say everyone will I didn't, but we must judge each person to determine whether they can take on such responsibility. There is absolutely nothing wrong with higher education, but if I had two children and one was more likely to engage in sin at university I would be more inclined to try and stop them, and if the other was more religious I would send them. Do not forget major sin occurs at university regularly.

This is going to be a long one! But I feel like we need to unpack this more.
I think that there are clear parameters in Islam about gender roles, but there is also SO much leeway to create the type of relationship that different personalities need.
No one relationship should be the same as the other. Because personality matters. Passions, purpose, values, etc all matters. And what works for one couple may not work for another.
It’s not black and white. Women and men are different, but we also have an overlap, and that overlap is human.
We have both differences and similarities.
I think we have to be careful with fighting back the liberal/feminist way by swinging to the opposite end of the spectrum. (I’m against the feminist theory.)
The women of makah were different than the woman of madina. A stark difference between them. Women of makah had that traditional surrendered way of being. And the women of madina were strong minded and would question, etc. it was a stark difference. To the point that the Sahabas came to the Prophet and complained that their women are changing because of the ansari (Madina) influence.
But the Prophet didn’t scold the women, he didn’t tell the men that this was bad and we need to squander it, he smiled. And Aisha said she sees herself like the madina women (because she was raised the most amongst them). Yet the Prophet’s favorite wife was Aisha.
I think we shouldn’t be so black and white. I think divorces are happening not just because of feminism and hypergamy, I think it’s an amalgamation of so many factors.
One factor is that our men’s testosterone levels have plummeted. Men who reach the age of thirty today have the same testosterone level as a 60 year old man three generations ago. And after the age of 29, their testosterone are declining each year.
I think this plays a prominent role with men not being truly strong men who are service oriented and sacrificial (not just feminism). Therefore, I think the true enemy here is the chemical companies, food companies, pharma, etc.
Also, we know that women are highly nurturing. Because of our agreeable Natures, we become who our children need. Which means we will embody the traits that our husbands disembody.
I agree with so many points being said here, I think it’s not as comprehensive as it could be. I think we are attacking women and their lack, as the decline of relationship. But that’s not true.
Both men and women have lost their ways. Men have lost the self discipline they need to lead and be deliberate in their thinking. Which makes it hard for women to trust them and surrender. And women have also lost their feminine essence and the art of receiving, which makes a man want to serve her/the family.
It’s not this black and white. Everyone at the end of the day have different personalities (mbti, enneagram, temperaments, humors, etc are good sources to look into).
And according to psychiatrist Jung, he also sees many different feminine archetypes and masculine ones.
    We aren’t all the same.
Let’s give room for our personalities to be expressed and accepted, within the parameter of Islam.

Question I have which I hope you could address is...like you mentioned many times that society is creating this ideology of feminism and women wanting to work etc, so would you not say that society is what needs changing and the social thinking/order since that is what is pushing this ideology of feminism and individualism? Expecting individuals to change with constant certain ideologies being pushed seems to me like we are trying to address a symptom but not necessarily addressing the root solution. Alhamdulillah we know we have am Islamic way of living through Quran and Sunnah so would you say that is the path we should be pushing in all aspects from social/economic/adaab etc. I would love to know your thoughts x

Sisters in the United States and abroad even are requesting the 'rights' that the typical American women asks for but without taking on the responsibilities that they do also all while benefitting from the Islamic dowry and other rights Islam gives her. They basically want to take advantage of what both (Islamic and western) systems have to offer by without carrying the responsibilities. For example most American born women, if they work, will help with the financial requirements of her husband to some extent but a muslimah will not despite her demand to work and continue college. This was by far the most common thing I've see and I've sat down to discuss marriage with Muslim women from Palestine (my origin) morocco United States (birthplace).

Ask them if islam doesn't give them rights then why do ask for rights of a wife in marriage? Ask them to be firm at one thing either adopt islam whole or the Western idea whole, it's not a buffet. This is just pure leach behavior to be frank. Wanting benefits that come from traditional responsibilities of the husband while demanding western freedom is treacherous, it's toddler behavior, no accountability. She won't fulfill her islamic duties neither will she take on half of her share if she wants western freedom, then this is just female narcissism. At the end it is the problem of their parents that they didn't make them understand the hikmah behind the difference in a woman's and a man's gender roles and how they are opposite yet complimentary. If you want to counter these propaganda being pushed onto your future kids make sure to read them seerah of thr sahaba and sahabiyat to your kids so they can understand what being a muslim means.

The higher education and career path which they are saying stands in the way of early and successful marriage is not only from women being conditioned but men too. We are taught that success lies in serving the corporate world, men and women and for us Muslims it is made to look like the height of achievement to work for a company regardless of whether their values are in harmony with our Deen and whether they serve our Islamic purpose in life.
This idea of selling all our time to strangers doing often meaningless or not v important things is not in harmony with good family and community life.
Public life should serve the community and family, not vice versa. It's not either career or marriage but both husband and wife using the skill set that Allah Granted them to benefit themselves, their community including extended family neighbours and friends and serving the wider society, sometimes fisabilillah and sometimes for economic gain.
