Jonathan always makes great videos. Im starting my screen print shop and I bought all my machines from him. He is straight up and knows what he is talking about and selling. I call him all the time to ask questions about screen printing and what I should buy and should not buy. He is always straight up. Funny how the most basic things like this are needed still. I have been printing for 3 years now but I just picked up an older press with this bar and micro. It is nice to have a different perspective on things. I wish I was 20 years younger and had You Tube University at my exposal! I have learned so much for so many different things from Painting my car, Playing guitar and screen printing. This place is like a Community College. You just have to want to learn. Thanks to you and to all the people like you who take the time to put these videos together! I hope I too can give back to the RUclips community once I am more confident in my craft(s)
Thank you for your support and you're very welcome. I wish I were 20 years younger too... LOL with the brain I have now ;) It’s true people go to RUclips now just as much as Google searching or more. A tip I found to keep the screen from moving when you tighten the screen is take one piece of paper towel, fold about 4-5 times into a small square and put under each clamp between the clamp and the screen frame. This serves as like a buffer and keeps the friction down and thus no movement. It really helps on aluminum screens after they get slightly dented from multiple clampings.

Hi Jon. I register multi-colour jobs in more or less the same way with a few differences that might be useful to folks. Basically I start by aligning the first screen to the centre/neck markings on my pallet. Then I use a sheet of plexiglass with the reg positive taped to it. This sheet is the exact thickness of the off-contact so I get a perfect close flat alignment of mesh to positive without needing to adjust anything on the press itself. I just have to move it by hand into position under first screen (a bit of tack spray on the pallet stops it from sliding to much), then align the other screens to it. My own press has side clamps so I don't suffer the screen movement problems that you can get with end clamps but since using this method I don't think I've used my micro-reg adjustments at all and if your film printer is outputtint accurate positives you can get very tight alignment on press.
Thank you very much!! I agree. Most of my jobs are simple enough that I can get them in registration without micro reg. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!
I just saw this video and now I wanna start printing shirts. This will be a good hobby for me to pass the time on my days off. Sweet video man thanks👍 Sub and like
Love the videos! SUPER helpful for a noob like me! I am using a 4-color, single station press..cheap blue one you can find for a couple hundred bucks.. The problem I have is the tiny gap where the print head sets into, to prevent it from moving side to side.. but how do I prevent the screen from shifting with the tiny gap - i.e. the screen doesn't "lock" into place when in the print position
Thank you! Glad you enjoy my video work. Yeah some of those very inexpensive imports can have issues with registration. You'll have to figure out how to "hack" it and fix that somehow. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
I keep the clamp/"bite plate" snug so its a lil harder to move the screen and just tap it into place. Then i dont have much more to tighten and the screen movement is greatly reduced. Adding the compensation, if necessary, is easier as well.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed. No, I do not use silicone at all on press for printing. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
Thank you for this very informative video, Can i ask some question? What if you cannot afford to have rotary press? how is the better way to do it? example you have to do 200 pcs. t-shirt without rotary?is that possible? if yes, I would love to see this kind of tutorial. Thank you!
+Art Flair You're welcome. I would not really have an answer to your question because I have never had to solve such a problem. I don't really see any efficient way of printing tee shirts without any kind of press. You'll need some kind of printing set up whether it's hinge clamps or what have you. If it's a multi color print then you'll really need a rotary press to do them properly and quickly. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/

i hope you can see this. but do you know where to buy and how to install a bite plate? i noticed this on my riley 150 4 color. it’s okay but would like this modified
That's not something that is made for install on all presses. No such product exists as far as I know. You would have to fabricate what you need and figure it out for yourself. Thanks for watching! Screen printing equipment and supplies. CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/

hi! I love your videos and I subscribed before I even started screen printing. I usually print a repeated design on yardage of cotton fabric, but I have troubles registering multi colour prints when the design is repeated. can you do a video on this? thanks so much for your videos!!
Thank you very much! I appreciate the sub :) I'm glad you enjoy my video work. You're very welcome. Unfortunately I do not have the correct equipment and space for that. I'd need a pretty large table set up or graphic press. It may be able to be demonstrated on a rotary press with a narrow roll of fabric I suppose. But that would take some R&D. And a narrow roll of fabric to play with. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
thankyou for sharing your knowledge man! you do such a great job and makes me feel motivated on screen printing, awesome video, awesome tips. i also have an idea, what about to make your pallet, aout or transparent accrilic? its hard and durable, and when you do the registration, put a light below the pallet and easily see, if the registration is good (excuse me for my english, i am mexican.)
Thanks for watching my videos. I’m glad I can help out through them. You’re very welcome. The pallet needs to be made of something strong and that can take heat up to 400 degrees F since a flash cure unit is often used on press. Thanks for watching. Those are original US made Mongoose Motomags from the 1980’s. I lost the guts of the hubs long ago and the rear hub is a special size so they would need to be fabricated and restored. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!
Thank you! You're very welcome. I'm happy to know you enjoy my video work. I would think you will have to fabricate that. The parts for the Ranar presses are made specifically for the Ranar presses. So there's a slim chance that it may fit properly without modifications. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
Hi Question not related to this video. how to prevent screen printing fibrillation. Im using a 110 mesh with white ink and black shirt. And im using the pull method
You can use a better ink perhaps, a better finished garment and also try not to over work the ink when printing. Attempt to get the coverage and opacity you want in the least amount of print strokes. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!
Emulsion will stay good as long as it is kept in the dark before exposure. Good emulsions will have a similar shelf life in the bucket as they do on screen in the dark. I have left photopolymers unexposed for a year and still used them. If you mean after exposure and drying then you can keep it as long as you like. Browsing old vids again. Just noticed that your url overlay on the video is under the video controls bar. When you go to navigate it, the controls for the video are in the way (on pc).
Awesome, thanks for re-watching some of my work. Yup, That's RUclips for you. This video was set up before they made the disappearing controls. They used to be fixed. But I have over 400 videos and it is a lot of work to go back through them all to make updates. They have changed a lot of things over time that has adversely affected all of their RUclipsrs work. They don't seem to care that we put a lot of effort into setting things up in the first place. One of these days I will pay someone to sit all day and update all my videos ;) But the links will always be in the video description anyway. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
You can screenprint on most any surface or fabric. You just need to use the appropriate inks. Check with an ink maker for specific inks used for specific materials. Wool may take a water based textile ink perhaps. I never have printed wool. Wood takes a poster ink which is air dry. Plastics might use a vinyl ink or coroplast ink and glass will need an enamel ink that either air dries or is baked in a glass oven. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!
we don't use test shirts. instead, we have square felts that come in black or white that we order from... stahl's? anyhoo, given that we do basic screenprinting, we'll measure our vellums (we don't use acetates) carefully on the screen before taping it down and burning it. we line the top easily enough using a plastic t-square, then just measure the sides from the frame. not every frame is perfectly the same size, of course, but when we line it up side-to-side it's usually a fairly minimal adjustment. that's just how we do it. :)
Very cool. This was tips for registering without any micro registration. There are many ways to line up films onto screens and then set up on press. I have a few other videos that cover these things. Thanks for sharing! Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
You are very welcome. For both plastisol and water-based inks you will need to cure them or heat set the prints. I have many other videos that cover this topic. Please check out my uploads. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! www.catspitproductionsllc.com/ - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
mahmoud pirlo I'm sorry I was referring to a rather large group of videos as many of my videos will cover the curing of the ink. LOL... Plus I need to make time to make the next new video. So time is better served if you look through my videos ;) Seriously, I have a lot of cool videos and if you take the time to browse them you can learn a lot about the process.
I have a ranar bench press and where the bite plate clamps down the weld on the bite plate i believe throws off my registration three outta the four are like this is there anyway I can order bite plates with the welds on the other side where it don't clamp down at?
+daniel francis I have never seen them that way. How old is the machine? Where did you get it? Where are you located? Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
Thanks for the fast response it's only 2 years old bought it off the Ranar site but now that you have educated me so much I'll start going threw you.I live in Michigan,I also seen on your site that you can upgrade your bench to micro so that's probably the route I'll take but currently don't have enough money for that so I was looking at getting new bite plates for now.I hold the middle of the screen like you said but when I go to tighten up the clamp on the screen the clamp bolt hits the weld on the bite plate and throws off my registration.
+daniel francis If you bought it from Ranar and there might be a defect, give them a call and tell them what's wrong. I'm sure they would take care of you with a new clamp bar. I think you are referring to the seam that sometimes is inside the clamp bar but I have never experienced and issue with it so far. We can easily eliminate that though so I will mention it to the factory. BUT the micro registration is an upgrade when you buy the press. That is not an "add on" that you can buy and put on after the fact. You have to get that upgrade when you initially buy the press. Otherwise you have to buy all new micro registration heads because they are completely different print heads.
+CatspitProductions if I bout the new heads with micro I still can put them on my existing 4 color radar bench tho right for 400 a piece ? Sorry that's my last question
+daniel francis The Vista micro head that would fit the bench presses is about $280 per head I believe plus shipping. It's a totally different print head. They should fit your press, yes. No worries, I'm here to help out. Make sure to call the factory and they will help you out with that clamp bar.
you can also use a piece of neoprene rubber to use with your clamp the reasn the screens moving 9 outta 10 times is because of grooves that have been made on the screen frame from over time use u0sually by presses that dont have the clamp bar attach to the clamp knobs or if neoprene isnt availale use a piece of cardboard
That sounds like a good idea. Yeah if you do not have the bite bar or clamp then the screen frame may get damaged by over tightening the clamps. Try not to monkey grip those clamps.... LOL. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
It's a lot different. There are many videos on RUclips about long table printing. They use multiple screens the same way I do but they lock into position over each pallet as you move around the line to print. There is most always a flash cure that will be used as well. Some are on tracks and others are on stand type things. It all depends on your particular set up. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
Very cool :) Thank you very much for the kind sentiment and the sub! I appreciate your support. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
Great tips Jonathan, I always enjoy watching it and learning something. I am screenprinter for 2 years and funny enough, I learnt the same tips for registering multicolor as you. It's almost automatic for me to press the screen with my hand before I clamp it. Unfortunately the air pressure clamps move a bit anyway so I use the microreg. Do you have any tips for multicolor transfers? Thanks for a great job you're doing, Would be nice to have a beer and a chat sometimes, well I pay, if you're in the Ostrava - Czech republic! HAHA.
LOL... thank you very much! Yeah sometimes all you can do is get to know the press and anticipate its movements. I don’t print transfers since I screen print direct. But I will do a video on doing a 1 or 2 color plastisol transfer eventually. I appreciate your support.
I really like your tutorials, clearly explained, keep up the good work
Thank you :) I'm happy to know you enjoy my video work. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
Very good and informative video. Do you spray the mesh with silicone spray also?

Wish you had a class or something down here in Florida!! Awesome tips been thinking of making my own silkscreens just don't know where to start

Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
totally in related but who makes are those rims that you have on your wall? (big fan of your videos)
Those are original US made Mongoose Motomags from the 1980’s. I lost the guts of the hubs long ago and the rear hub is a special size so they would need to be fabricated and restored. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!
Thank you. I love your videos. I subscribed. I am wondering if I can purchase and install a bite plate on my press?
Thank you! You're very welcome. I'm happy to know you enjoy my video work. I would think you will have to fabricate that. The parts for the Ranar presses are made specifically for the Ranar presses. So there's a slim chance that it may fit properly without modifications. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/

and what kind of paint to use?
pls give the mane of the paint
Hi
Question not related to this video. how to prevent screen printing fibrillation.
How long can I leave the emulsion on my screens after they have dried?
Is it possible to screen print on wool materials?
Can I use waterbased inks to screenprint on wood, glass and plastic?
Thank you very much
but i wanna know howa can i make the colors stable on the t-shirt after printing to avoid it from water?
thank u :)
You are very welcome. For both plastisol and water-based inks you will need to cure them or heat set the prints. I have many other videos that cover this topic. Please check out my uploads. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! www.catspitproductionsllc.com/ - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
can you give me a direct link for these videos ,please ?
mahmoud pirlo I'm sorry I was referring to a rather large group of videos as many of my videos will cover the curing of the ink. LOL... Plus I need to make time to make the next new video. So time is better served if you look through my videos ;) Seriously, I have a lot of cool videos and if you take the time to browse them you can learn a lot about the process.
Oh,
thank u :) :)

Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
how do you do this when you only have a line table instead of the rotating press?
It's a lot different. There are many videos on RUclips about long table printing. They use multiple screens the same way I do but they lock into position over each pallet as you move around the line to print. There is most always a flash cure that will be used as well. Some are on tracks and others are on stand type things. It all depends on your particular set up. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/

Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! www.catspitproductionsllc.com/ - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
I wish I could have seen the multi colored finished product. Did i miss something about what this video was supposed to show?
