So many ways to skin a Catspit...I've been printing white ink on blacks for 15 years. To avoid fiber related issues, I [seal} the print/garment first with a clean light stroke, no flooding. Matter of fact, I never flood the screen like I see you do. This light initial pull give the ink something to stand on and seals the fabric. I then flash and lay on 2-3 pulls (I never push) for final print. I find this to be the best way [for me] to get a nice solid white print without having the ink get too thick. Everyone should experiment and find out what works best for you in your environment and gives you best results. Good stuff Jon...Thanks for sharing.
Usually the thicker the ink, the more need to flood the stencil. But yeah, absolutely. Everyone has their own methodology and ways of printing. YESSSS Triumph Screen Printing!!! i've been printing for 20 years (manually and pneumatically) and i've never understood why anyone would flood a screen within an inch of it's life, as it is done in this demonstration. there are a number of variables that can cause fibrilation that are not mentioned here. the most common i have noticed is when a manual printer over prints the shit out of the garment.... meaning they nearly push the ink through the garment. standard plastisol is not designed for penetration on that level.
Iv'e been printing for about 35 years. Yes, I suppose too much print pressure and repeated printing would be a problem with this. There are many ways to end up with fibrillation. I simply tried to cover the most common for beginners but it's a short video. I also flood off pallet but I never really had problems with this issue. I made the video to help others who may see this. With plastisol ink, which tends to be thicker, we flood the screen to load it with ink. There is very little pressure being used there. Just enough to spread the ink over the stencil and not push it through or "extrude" it through the mesh. With proper off contact and a good screen the ink will sheer as you do your print stroke pulling the ink out of the mesh as it lifts from the substrate behind the squeegee blade as you move through the print stroke. But the bottom line is, as long as you're getting a nice print, there is not wrong or right way. I have seen people do the same thing many different ways. Thanks for watching. Quick question. I had fibrillation on my 100% ringspun cotton shirts. To combat it I switched to 100% ringspun, combed cotton shirts. Will the ringspun, combed be less susceptible to fibrillation?
Anything with a brushed, combed or altered feel knit surfaces may be more prone to fibrillation since there are already fibers raised off the print surface. A tight, smooth knit will print best. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
I'm using plastisol rapid cure ink and when I try to reflood my screen, my squeegee feels like it's dried so I feel like my screen gets flooded weird. I try to add more ink but that just causes my ink to get under my mesh and ruin my design. If I scrap the bottom of my squeegee everytime before reflooding my screen then everything is fine again. My ink looks creamy so I don't know if it's the ink or the squeegee that's the issue.
It's hard to say what's happening there working blind from afar but maybe the ink is semi curing in the screen. If you are flashing with one pallet or flashing rapidly on a rotary press, then perhaps that is the issue. I could only guess at this point. Thanks for watching. Hello and thanks for the video. I am in the process of starting my brand and am a bit overwhelmed between the different methods. However, in a Marshalls store I saw a shirt with art that looked very clear and vibrant and yet no paint was felt on the fabric. I have noticed that with the screen method, where the art is printed, it looks like a mass of over-exposed paint on the fabric that tends to turn rigid. I would like to know what kind of method is on that shirt that I saw in the store, the art looked quite printed on the fabric, but it felt very soft and flexible as if the art belonged to the fabric. Any ideas about it? Thanks Again! Nice intro music.

Hello sir, i'd like to ask some tips.. I am using an Iron to dry the ink on the shirt and I make sure that it drys well. However after washing, it stains the shirt. Seems like a newly printed shirt with wet ink. I am using a Speedball White Ink. Is this ink the problem?
WOW. That just happened to my latest print. Thought it looked kinda koool, since Im just a weekned warrior @ this. Boy was I wrong . Thnk you for the info. BTW great tutorial keep up the good work.
Do you have any advice for the screen getting stuck to the garment ? It's happening nearly everytime I press. I thought the adhesive spray was coming through the garment, but i tried a shirt with no adhesive spray and same issue
If you're flashing on press between colors it may be that you are printing on very hot sticky ink or the ink is not flashed enough and is still tacky. So either allow more time for the ink to cool between printing and/or make sure the ink is flashed enough to be dry to the touch. I have videos about both of these topics. Thank you!! try a 110 or a 125 mesh screen. Here's a general guide: Use a 28 to 30 mesh count for printing many brands glitter inks. Always check with the manufacturer of the ink about this. This mesh will print a very high volume of ink and have a thick coat of emulsion making it difficult to expose. Use an 85 mesh count for athletic printing, opaque ink deposits, thick puff ink, and some shimmer inks. This mesh will print a very high volume of ink and have a thick coat of emulsion making it difficult to expose. Use a 110 mesh count for heavy coverage on dark shirts, solid under base prints, puff, metallic, some shimmer inks, and for certain transfer printing. This is a great mesh count for high opacity inks on any dark garments. Use a 155 or 160 mesh count for general printing on white tee shirts & under basing on dark shirts, prints on nylon jackets, and thinner silver shimmer inks. Many thinner plastisol inks will print well with this mesh count. Use a 195 mesh count for printing on light colored T-shirts with fine detail, line work or halftones of around 35 LPI. Use a 230 mesh count for printing on light colored tee shirts with fine detail, line work or halftones of around 45 LPI. Use a 305 to 355 mesh count for process color on light shirts, or for overprinting a halftone on a white under base on dark shirts. Every 4th or so shirt into the run I’m getting bad bleed though onto the underneath of the screen ruining the print. I’m using water base ink. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Could be the ink is thin and it's bleeding out. There's a video about retaining print clarity you can check out in my video uploads. But could be you need a higher mesh count and/or less pressure on the flood and stroke. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/

I always get a fuzzy outline around my screen prints with vinyl. What could I be doing wrong? I have tried different types of vinyl and I still get that fuzzy bleeding look on the image.
I'm not sure. Could be the vinyl moving some on the mesh, could be mesh tension. Could be your flood and stroke. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/

after watching this video. i know now that adding a thinning agent was only making my situation worse and worse when i was printing white plastisol, on a black gildan soft style shirt. soft style by gildan seems to be really susceptible to this issue !
That's probably a good assumption. Reducers or thinners are not ink so you have to be careful when mixing. Too much additive is not good. They also tend to lower opacity. Yeah, any soft brushed finish garment could be an issue. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
Personally I find Gildan garments one of the worst for fibrillation. The surface of their stuff is not very smooth. I hate printing on their stuff. I like C Force T190 Tees and AS Colour do some nice smooth garments. Not sure where you are but I am printing in New Zealand.
Thank you! If something is set up in the press, I'll be happy to print a test print for you but I couldn't demonstrate the entire process. It would take too long. That's what my personal training is for ;) Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
question. is there anything like starching then ironing that could help? I don't have the amount of resources required to test this out. scratch maybe to hold fabric in place. unless that would only hinder ink adhesion. please do a test! that would be awesome!
I'm not sure but I don't think you want to spray anything on the garment before printing. Maybe a heat press but I don't know. I have never done any R&D like that. I just use a better shirt usually.
that was my first go to method but I think at that point I thinned that batch of ink to much to have it effectively fix the issue. gildan softstyle is really fluffy too.
Oh yes, that would be a problem. Too much reducer or thinner, soft hand or what have you, and it's no longer ink really. The opacity is ruined too of course. So an HO ink would work well without any additives probably with the flashing method.
Im a newbie, what ink and mesh count would recommend for printing on black tees... I printed yesterday with a low bleed ink and had a fibrillation issue.
With plastisol ink I use the lowest mesh count possible for the artwork. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
I'm going to ask a question that could be crazy ... is there a silkscreen base that can be sublimated on top? I have a great impression that you are very professional and loving your work ... I enjoy many your videos, have you used sublimation? There is a very strange product but no one uses ... it's called Reveal-S ... have you used that? A greeting and thanks for your time.
Not as far as I know of. I have done some sublimation in the past but I do not work with that process currently. I'm happy to know you enjoy my video work. No, I never heard of that product. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
I work with Reveal-S about once a week and I must say it is very tricky to get it right. Its always hit or miss with each sheet. Not the greatest invention for sublimation and very expensive. That's why I went to screen printing, cheaper and people just love cotton more than polyester.
You know, run out into the street with a tan over coat naked underneath and flash people... LOL.. ;) Sorry I'm a goof. But seriously it means to use a heating panel, which we call a flash cure unit, and dry the ink to the touch so you can print the next print. I have videos showing that. Check out my uploads. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
LOL... you're funny. I'll take that as a compliment ;) Thanks! Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
I don't think that is the case. Over curing will scorch the garment before it will burn the ink. But if the print looks good when the screen comes up, proper flashing should not affect that at all. But if you burn the ink, I'm sure it will look very bad anyway ;) Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/

Yeah, I'll bet. I'm about to upload a video about that in reference to washed garments and screen printing since I though of it in this video.
Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
where did you get the squeegee holder from?
I sell the squeegee rests on my ecommerce site.

I doubt I would ever use a roller squeegee. It's an extra step in labor. Shouldn't be necessary. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
Whats the length of your squeegee rubber and duro?
I have several lengths and durometer to choose from in my shop. They're chosen based on what you're printing ideally. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
I liked that one used in the video
@@jakecurry3892 This was a very long time ago ;) I don't specifically recall but it looks like a 12 inch 60 durometer.
Thanks so much for replying! Love your channel
This is happening to me with Seika ink. I have tried a light coat flash and then print again, and I have done wet on wet without lifting. still keeps happening. Why oh why
Maybe the finish of the shirt is too soft and fuzzy for the consistency of the ink. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
I have 2 shirts with fibrillation from a small screenprint shop in Milwaukee that wants to print my stuff. I said "No thanks." I didn't know this though!
It happens. Could be the printer, could be the shirt. But you should bring the problem to their attention so they have a chance to remedy it.
I'm in the US. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
Great videos! Would you be available to give a how to demonstration of screen printing process if I were to visit your store?
Thank you! If something is set up in the press, I'll be happy to print a test print for you but I couldn't demonstrate the entire process. It would take too long. That's what my personal training is for ;) Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
Thank you Ill definitely look into it. Id have to make some arrangements as I live in TX, but will email you for sure!
You're very welcome!

question. is there anything like starching then ironing that could help? I don't have the amount of resources required to test this out. scratch maybe to hold fabric in place. unless that would only hinder ink adhesion. please do a test! that would be awesome!
I'm not sure but I don't think you want to spray anything on the garment before printing. Maybe a heat press but I don't know. I have never done any R&D like that. I just use a better shirt usually.
yeah. gildan soft style or Bella canvas are ringspun soft material I use often and always run into this issue
You should try the print/flash/print method. That might seal it up nicely.
that was my first go to method but I think at that point I thinned that batch of ink to much to have it effectively fix the issue. gildan softstyle is really fluffy too.
Oh yes, that would be a problem. Too much reducer or thinner, soft hand or what have you, and it's no longer ink really. The opacity is ruined too of course. So an HO ink would work well without any additives probably with the flashing method.
Thank man..

@@jayp6945 Thanks for your input :) I agree, cotton is king. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
What you you mean by flashing?
You know, run out into the street with a tan over coat naked underneath and flash people... LOL.. ;) Sorry I'm a goof. But seriously it means to use a heating panel, which we call a flash cure unit, and dry the ink to the touch so you can print the next print. I have videos showing that. Check out my uploads. trust bruv i meant it as a compliment
Thank you!!
I always thought fibrillation was caused by over flashing or too high of a temp on the flash. Have I been wrong all these years?
I don't think that is the case. Over curing will scorch the garment before it will burn the ink. But if the print looks good when the screen comes up, proper flashing should not affect that at all. But if you burn the ink, I'm sure it will look very bad anyway ;) Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/

if you use HTV on a shirt thats been washed, the HTV dont like it, and sometime will not stick
Yeah, I'll bet. I'm about to upload a video about that in reference to washed garments and screen printing since I though of it in this video. But I would certainly assume it's the same principle as far as bonding for both plastisol ink and vinyl heat transfers. Thanks for watching. you do a great job.......

What I figured out too was that in my case it only happens with 100% cotton tees...
