Hey Tony, I am unapologetically allergic to BS, hence, much appreciated your no-nonsense approach when evaluating this Arai helmet…I will admit, I too are a big fan of the Arai products…the best predictor of the future is the relevant past-and Arai passes/produces with “flying colors”💯 Thanks again for your efforts & insights👍
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Tony. Testing it in the UK / in winter would be great. I ride throughout the year in Scotland and I switch from my X4 to the Neotech II for winter. I wish that Arai would make a modular helmet, or for Shoei would make a modular helmet with a peak! Like a hybrid Hornet.
Really helpful review, thank you. I really loved my X4 but I had it on last weekend in the rain and the damn visor misted in left section despite me readjusting the pin lock, so I made an expensive decision to get the new X5 which has just arrived. Love the smell of a new lid and can’t wait to test it!
I’m a x4 fan boy and I was pissed when I heard that they discontinued it for this but your video 100% changed my opinion. I’ve watched others on the x5 but yours changed my mind for some reason. I think I will buy one now
Oh damn I really liked the look of the Eagle Grey version! Tbf I'm probably a couple of years off actually buying one but this is one of my top contenders for my first ECE 22.06 helmet.
You my friend, knocked this out of the yard with this one!!! Really well made first view, and I have always been an Arai guy myself. But the weight is just to high. I was really hoping to see a weight drop so this could be a competitor to my Klim Krios Pro, but it is still a better helmet (for me) Cheers, thank you 🇳🇴
No problem, I was hoping for the same. To be fair its been OK on all day rides, but I have to consider mounting an action camera too, and then it starts to notice
Well done Tony another objective first impression test, look forward to the “ long term” conclusions, like you have an X4 bought after your excellent review a while ago with the man from Arai showing how a helmet should fit. Keep up the good work mate.
I have the X4 and surprisingly I don't experience any of the problems or weaknesses mentioned. Sure the X5 is a new design upgrade but I can't consider it an evolution. After all, some of the changes made in the X5 can be considered practical and as weaknesses compared to the previous model. Keep up the good work....
I have owned several X4s. If I was buying today despite the improvements with the deals you can get on the outgoing X4 I would buy another X4 and keep that a few years before going to the X5. You can get them for almost half the price of the new X5
Great review Tony...seems like an excellent progression of the Tour X. With the slightly tricky visor change sorted and an easier pin loc fitting I can't fault it. And using ' man maths' I'm sure I can justify the price! And some very nice tinted visors available ! Great stuff. Cheers, Steve 💚
Good review Tony. Really fancy one if these. Watched the whole vid thinking how good the silver lid looked to find they’re not bringing it to the U.K. Cmon Arai.
Still occasionally wearing my tour X3 Boorman edition. Don't see any reason to upgrade/change it (apart from it's age of course, but we will pretend that's not really an issue....)
Probably a better helmet, but I think the old design looked much cooler, maybe with the graphics coming, the looks will be better! Right now I think the Shoei looks better.
Where's the follow-up test on use in the UK winter time Tony? Plus, are you going to test the new Nexx X Wed 3? Which supposedly gets rid of many issues on the Nexx 2.
Living in a warm country, i am very worried about the removal of eyebrow/side vents, they really make a difference and you need them every summer or spring day... Can you attest air fllow is adequate to keep things cool in warm weather??
I’m currently looking the new tour x5 at moment, got issues with fitment, My head size is 56cm which is a small. When I tried on the small it’s slightly too tight and my nose/mouth almost touching the chin bar. Tried on the medium in tour x5 is slightly too big so I’m stucked here. So I tried on the tour x4 in small, it’s soo much more roomier than chin bar is bigger than x5.
This helmet is 800€+ in EU, quite crazy for a bare bones helmet that's not that light. They should at least offer a transition visor or something to keep up with the competition. I think if Shoei puts out a new Hornet with modern features I can't see how this will do too well.
I have a cardo 4x intercom in my RX-7 V Arai helmet and for music it sounds brilliant, I have a BMW pure adventure helmet with the same cardo intercom fitted, but the sound quality in this helmet is terrible compared to the Arai, my question is would the X5 have the same sound quality as the RX-7 V helmet?
Great review! I noticed you used Insta 360 camera that can be mounted on the bike etc, but it would be good to have follow-up review with the helmet camera´s chin mounts options analysis :) Cheers and continue the good work!
Yes, it’s a little longer than the old one apparently but I found it worked well. The hoodie is a Honda merch item, you can order online or buy through dealers. It’s called Vintage sunset
Best purchase out there going on many Years is a back protector that doubles as a back pack. If the Industry started offering up a more holistic "safety system" I think they would see strong support from the Industry that is now truly massive and includes everything from powered Unicycles to stand up scooters that go in excess of 60 miles per hour now all the way up to massive Honda Goldwings. Yes something is better than nothing but everything has been so much of nothing going on forever now when there is an actual improvement what else is being held back becomes the first question everyone is asking these days.
Hello my friend, First of all, I love your channel. Your reviews are always great and entertaining and I learn a lot from them. What would you recommend between the Quantic and the Tour X5 in terms of ventilation? I'm not a big off road person, I ride mostly on country roads, city and highways, with occasional simple offroad, but I live in Israel where it it HOT! We are getting into summer soon and it's usually around 35°C+ during the day. I am looking for a well ventilated helmet and I would most likely remove the visor of the Tour X5. Any recommendations? Thanks either way, and thank you for your great reviews my friend :)
Hi and thanks for your message. Its a tricky one to answer as thet both vent well, the Quantic possibly better in standard form. HOWEVER, a big advantage of the Tour X5 is that you can wear goggles with it, which is obviously going to allow for much more ventilation on those hot days.
@@mancavemoto Thank you for your response. That is clearly an advantage. I'll try both and I'll let you know which one I went with :) Again, thank you for your great reviews, I really love your channel my friend 💙
I've been wearing Arai since 1991. I found the profile V to be less comfortable than the previous model. Mine sits on the shelf while I still use my old one. The new profile V gives me a headache within half an hour at highway speeds. So if the new X5 has followed the same design philosophy with the more open neck opening, I'm going to be sceptical about upgrading my X4. It's such an expensive lid, I'd hate to have happen what occurred with the profile V and have two helmets that I never wear.
What a complete shame those 2 colours aren't coming to the UK They're the colours a lot of people, including me, will like That seems like a basic error to me
No, it’s highly unlikely you’ll ever see one in an Arai helmet. But then that predominantly what the peak is for and in direct bright sun it’s still the most effective solution. But I also understand the benefits of a drop down shade.
@@mancavemoto Point well made, but it is a very important feature to have. I live in Spain, I use the touratech carbon fibre made by nexx.... what a mess! I might look at the scorpion ADF-9000 you reviewed as-well. At-least the scoprion comes with a 5 year warranty as garaunteed half the plastic bits will be gone in the fist 6 months!
Arai lost me with the visor change fiddliness and the loss of the eyebrow vents. One positive is the wider opening but it isn’t enough to sway me over. I’ll hang onto my XD-4 as long as I can and check out Klim’s offerings at the time. It’s a shame but Arai have lost a customer with these changes to the Iconic X-4.
I used to be a moaning audiophile. always listening to my equipment and not the music. Then I got a reality check and got a life. Give me flashing lights, wobbly VU meters and fun, any day.

Thanks very much Ben
Thanks for the comprehensive review. Can't wait to see these in the US market. Ride On!
A great, non biased review of what looks like a fabulous helmet Tony. Looking forward to seeing your further tests on the helmet. Thank you👍

The x4 front gaps on top makes a weird noice on my crf1000
And I find it to be heavy after long rides… neck pain

Awesome review, thanks. 👍
choose the Klim krios pro for three good reason: lighter ( -250g) , fantastic mag boucle and automatic shade visor
Excellent test and explanations thanks Tony.. much appreciated.. 👍🏻
Glad it was helpful!

HI IS WAS HELPFUL, THANK YOU. I RUN ARAI SINCE 1985..... AND SINCE 2015 XD4 . I M GONNA CHANGE NOW FOR THE NEW UPDATE THIS SUMMER... 💪💪💪💪
Glad it helped
Good review Tony.
Really fancy one if these. Watched the whole vid thinking how good the silver lid looked to find they’re not bringing it to the U.K. Cmon Arai.
Well if enough people ask 😉
Seems really good, but I have a begginer type question. When is the peak useful and does that warrant it being there, or just a matter of looks?
Yes the peak is very useful. It’s a touch longer on the 5 and works really well as a sun shade which would be its main use.
I think I was the only person who picked out a plain helmet in the ride! But I do quite like the simplicity.
Where's the follow-up test on use in the UK winter time Tony? Plus, are you going to test the new Nexx X Wed 3? Which supposedly gets rid of many issues on the Nexx 2.
It still is the winter! So that’ll come in due course, and yes I will be reviewing the X.Wed 3 too
Living in a warm country, i am very worried about the removal of eyebrow/side vents, they really make a difference and you need them every summer or spring day... Can you attest air fllow is adequate to keep things cool in warm weather??
The 3D vent on the brow does pretty much what the eyebrow vents did. I always found the eyebrow vents to be a weak spot in the rain

The X5 is a slightly different shape, so it sounds like the X4 is better for you. I was exactly the other way around

yeah outrageous pricing, it'll still be klim krios pro for me, for the features you mentioned, heck even bell have transition visors now.
Excellent review.
Thanks for watching
I have a cardo 4x intercom in my RX-7 V Arai helmet and for music it sounds brilliant, I have a BMW pure adventure helmet with the same cardo intercom fitted, but the sound quality in this helmet is terrible compared to the Arai, my question is would the X5 have the same sound quality as the RX-7 V helmet?
It should be very similar.

Thanks, yes that’s in the works. Obviously I wanted to show as much of the helmet as possible in this video hence the 360
How do you find the wind resistance in the motorway at speed? Is it like a sail when doing lifesavers?
It’s pretty good, one of the more stable peaks I’ve ridden in. Not much grab on lifesavers
Great review. I didn't hear it mentioned, but does the X5 retain the intermediate oval shape?
Yes, same shape but a bit roomier
Great review Tony. How did the peak perform in blocking the sun whilst you’re riding? and where did you get your Honda hoodie?.
Yes, it’s a little longer than the old one apparently but I found it worked well. The hoodie is a Honda merch item, you can order online or buy through dealers. It’s called Vintage sunset

I found the x4 loud, now I have a hornet from Shoei. Would you say this is quieter than the Shoei?
I woudl say its very similar, but it all depends on the fit to be honest
Any ideas when we can buy these in the UK, I've checked on a couple of helmet shops and says nothing yet 👍👍
They should be available in early January I’ve been told

Not at this stage Charlie, but we can live in hope. At least it’s much easier to change now!

Yes I think it is
How’s the vision with the shield up?
It's good, the visor sits up slightly higher than it does on the X4, and has a positive stop position. All round vision is excellent

Not made in all the shell sizes of the XD4 bringing to and end my 30 years of only using Arai.
3 shell sizes in this versus 5 shell sizes in the Tour X4/XD4.
