Great video, Scott. I really like how you're travelling back to places that you have memories of. I'm sure Blair enjoyed it, too... I would have loved to have travelled the world with my Dad!
Blair, thank you for letting your dad video your vacation for those of us who may never visit Australia and Singapore. You love animals (and birds and reptiles) and I hope that you will be able to work in that type of career. Scott, great trip! You are a good dad!!
Well that was another interesting video. Looked like an amazing time in Singapore with your son and that ibis hotel that was a no go deffo enjoyed your travels 😀
Visited “Singa” many times from Perth. Always found everything works, very efficient, friendly, good value, safe, sort of familiar… Take the MRT metro everywhere - cheap, very efficient and quick, is a station at most places you’d want to go- why walk? 😀 PS Kaya toast, egg, and Singapore coffee….excellent breakfast
Aye, it's brilliant, me and my wife went to Bali fir a holiday last month and on the way back stopped for 2 nights in Singapore. Really enjoyed it. Was good to see this video and see some familiar places.
On my daily commute, I regularly cycle past the point where you filmed the Tanjong Pagar railway station. Can't wait for it to be renovated and reopened. On my return home, I also ride past the steps to the Mercure hotel too.
What a privilige to make such a trip with your son. I will probably/hopefully never have to travel to Dubai or Singapore, but love to watch your father son trip. Great video! (sorry for my poor English)
Another great trip to show Blair some of the world. Loved the zoos and bird park. On a side note, I read your book yesterday and really enjoyed your rail journey.
This was a great trip to Singapore with a lot of places to see and explore there it is very nice but it is true the hotel wasn't all that great to stay in but a room without window views was terrible but I still enjoyed the scenery. You and Blair have a great week and have a Merry Christmas Thank You.🎄🇬🇧🎄
When I was in Singapore a few years ago, I wanted to go to the Bird Park but it was closed for renovation and I went to the Botanical Gardens instead (also well worth a visit). Thank you for giving us a few highlights of the Bird Park and Zoo. I really liked Singapore and hope to go back some day. Safe travels!
The Bird Park has relocated to the Mandai Wildlife Reserve area & renamed Bird Paradise. There will be a new animal park, Rainforest Wild Asia, opening March 2025. 😊
I’m glad you managed to get to Tanjong Pagar train station. It used to be the Singapore terminus of Malayan Railway, as you know and the land and the station were returned to Singapore in 2011 when the trains stopped running. You were a bit early to visit as the restoration works are slated for completion by September 2026 and could house a mall, a hotel (stay there instead of the Ibis Budget), and an MRT station. That might give you a reason to return :)
@ Indeed not but to see the railway station revamp, the station hall, how the old (hopefully) has been integrated into the new, etc. more rail-related than mall-related. I wouldn’t return for a mall neither.
A great video, we are looking to go to Singapore next year and it's good to get an insight into the place. I don't think we will be stopping at the IBIS.
Great video, Scott. Love your book. I stayed in all sorts of different hotels in my life but each and every one of them had windows. My son and I stayed in three different youth hostels in Germany this year and even they had windows
Loved this. If you go again, I strongly recommend Gardens by the Bay and any of the wonderful hawker centres! Classic dishes to try include chicken rice, laksa, chili crab, and rendang.
I'm sure those builders with Jackhammers were there to put the missing windows in, As for the Urang Utang, obviously like me another hugely impressed and loyal subscriber, extra bananas all round!
From "grumpy" to "happy" in one move, Singapore style....but the views were A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! ... WOW! (Good of them to organise a "Coffee Expo",...just to ensure you could get up to cruising altitude 😉).
visit again in 2 years! the refurbishment of the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station will be complete by then, as the Cantonment Station as part of the Circle Line
We were in Boston a fortnight ago and booked the Hampton Inn and Suites in Back Bay. Imagine our surprise when we found that the hotel was in a district called Methadone Mile. Lovely hotel but never expected a Hampton to be in such a terrible scary area. After 3 nights of walking the 20 wary minutes from the Subway to the hotel we decided to check out and book into the Royal Sonesta in safe as houses Cambridge where we stayed last time. The moral of the story was do the due diligence on the hotel you’ve booked and don’t be so tight as to not book the perfect hotel you stayed in last time!
Great video! When 'Albert Court' came up, I was hoping that you were in the Albert Court Hotel, as I did the very first time visiting. Perhaps they've demolished it. You could have gone for a Singapore Sling in Raffles - but the prices are pretty eyewatering!! Thanks for these series of videos, you've brought back memories of so many places I went to in the 00's!!
Scott, if you ever come back to Australia with Blair, you should visit Melbourne and go to Luna Park in St Kilda, Melbourne Aquarium and the Melbourne Museum. Melbourne Zoo is good too.
I can't believe that first hotel is in BA Holidays portfolio! Haha back in the day they would actually CHECK before selling a hotel through their brand. Changed days eh!? EDIT: and what's this fashion with transparent bathroom doors all about!? :D
I stayed in a Mercure hotel in Warsaw 10 years ago where there was a clear glass panel between the main room and the bathroom. Luckily there was a privacy curtain.
I stayed with a friend in Holiday Inn Express in Edinburgh, and the frosted glass toilet and separate shower room SHARED a door - it was fixed between the cubicles! Hmmm......
I got caught out at that Ibis hotel back in January. I ended up moving to the Double Tree Hotel. It was much better and I got a deal which made it cheaper!
That trip with a very smiley Blair, i get fed up with all the criticism of 1 word Blair, his smile covered it all. Great tour of down under and thanks for taking us along!🇨🇦
Thanks Scott, the Australia videos were brilliant and was nice to get the taster of the Singapore airport, reminded me of a ''bonding'' trip I had with my son when we went from Heathrow to Australia via Singapore where we never left that airport as we had a connection to Perth....We also stayed in Melbourne and then Sydney...It was a challenge though......
I lived in KL for a couple of years and used to visit Sin often for work and once or twice for pleasure/leisure. I did enjoy going there but I preferred living in KL. It's an amazing history though Singapore.
Another excellent video scott...we went to singapore first in 1989 and it looked like a building site then....we have since returned in 2022 and what a difference to sky line....its just a shame that raffles hotel is now boxed in by high rise blocks and shopping centres. ...still the culture/food/people are lovely. ..plus the transport system is amazing....going to go back to do the train too Kuala Lumpur from the border crossing near woodlands. ....
I wish I could afford to go to Australia etc, all look's amazing thanks for letting us do this adventure with you Scott and Blair 😊 I think it's the only way I'll get to see these destinations 😅 .All the best 👌 from Liverpool 😊
Scott's Script: Explain everything with passion and personal reflection. Cut to Blair... Blair's Script: (Looks up from phone) No, Yeah, No, No, Yeah, Yeah, nice beer.
If you have a chance to return to Singapore, can try the Ibis Budget Singapore Imperial at Lavender. It's a pretty nice budget hotel, also located within the city centre area.
Stopped at the Ibis Styles on McPherson a few times. That is up to Ibis standard and has a pool. You would need A Grab taxi though to go anywhere. Back in Singa again in a few months time for 2-3 nights as part of a trip to the region.
Singapore had its own personality way back when I first visited in the late 60’s. By the time I returned in the late 70’s, it had been modernised. The street markets had gone, the poorer folk in the population had been moved to the fringes of the city and the banking sector had moved in big time. It was a typical high flying city you can see anywhere in the world. It was very noticeable to me.
My first visit was in 1973 when walking down Orchard Road meant clambering around the old storm drains. Airport was Paya Lebar rather than today's Changi (which did not open I think until 1981). Personally I believe Singapore has never stopped expanding ever since.
We stayed at the Fullerton and chose a balcony room overlooking the bay. It was very nice but expensive, and we wouldn't do it again. We've been to Singapore a few times but the only city out that way we would like to return to, is Hong Kong.
Lads, I've said it before and I'll say again. Linen shirts! so much better than polo or t-shirts for hot weather. Also taxi's people dont walk in Singapore.
Hoi Scott, pretty interesting. Well done. Been to Singapore a few times. The most Western City in South East Asia. Definitely not cheap all around. Window´s?. Extra payment!. Greetings, Markus
I might be mistaken Marcus but I believe the S$ has become the world's strongest currency. Stronger than CHF and certainly stronger nowadays than the Yen.
The problem with reviews is that trolls leave poor reviews that give a false impression. You never know if the good reviews are true or the bad reviews are false.
The lack of windows in the Ibis may be something to do with the air conditioning! Changi Airport is fantastic - so much to see and experience. Between flights I had an overnighter airside in Changi Airport - it was just a small windowless box (smaller even the Ibis!) but it was all I needed.
Loved SIngapore when I visited for 4 days in January 2023 (except for the humidity and one day of torrential rain). Found a lovely hotel near Chinatown that wasn't that cheap but was a great hotel. Going to Singapore and not visiting a Hawker market for dinner seems an oversight though. You can get pizza anywhere in the world.
Singapore might be okay if shopping malls and expensive accommodation and tourist attractions are your thing. But my most recent recollection of the place in 2017, is not being able to get a cup of coffee before 9am and having to wait in my pokey expensive hotel room until anything opened. I too first visited in 1975, and again in 1979. It was vibrant and exciting back then. Indeed, the railway station was all hustle, bustle and excitement, as was Bugis Street at night. And what are they now? Having said all that, the Botanical Gardens ARE worth visiting and are a welcome retreat from the stark metropolis.
Yes, remember Orchard Road when life was lived outdoors and Orchard Road was busy well into the night. In Singapore now it's dead at night and life is lived indoors with the recycled cold air.
Trip of a lifetime buddy and with your son. You deserve it Scott. Well done
Thanks Scott for sharing your adventures along with your son Blair, you’ve made so many precious memories.
Great video, Scott. I really like how you're travelling back to places that you have memories of. I'm sure Blair enjoyed it, too... I would have loved to have travelled the world with my Dad!

Our family friends called their house in West Linton "Tanjong" after returning from government service in Singapore in the 50's.
Having stayed near Kallang in ibis budget last year.
Yes it felt like a shoebox, but i got a good deal & wasnt staying the entire day in the room.
Really enjoy your trips away , does inspire me to do more of my own . Keep up good work🚊🚆🛤✈

Been to Singapore. Spent 4 days. Stayed at Mercure hotel. Thankfully no rain while exploring. Then return flight was delayed due to rain.
Some adventure Scott & Blair. Great memories for you.
Great video once again Scott. Hope you guys had a good flight back home?
Scott, if you ever come back to Australia with Blair, you should visit Melbourne and go to Luna Park in St Kilda, Melbourne Aquarium and the Melbourne Museum. Melbourne Zoo is good too.

Singapore, Coffee Week! Scot they must have know that you where coming!😆. Great video. always wanted to go there. One day. mybe one day.

Omg Im laughing so much at Blairs expressions. Cant wait to drag my daughter on my adventures.
I feel so bad for Scott, he's trying to narrate these things but Blair won't let him get a word in
😂
I saw what you did there 😂😂😂
😂
Yeah..😂
Personally, I think Blair should talk less. He’s a real blether.
So Singapore has shops and a zoo. A tourist draw or what!
That’s the only problem with Singapore it’s so humid, been there twice but struggled with the humidity.
Still it is a lovely place.
Another excellent video scott...we went to singapore first in 1989 and it looked like a building site then....we have since returned in 2022 and what a difference to sky line....its just a shame that raffles hotel is now boxed in by high rise blocks and shopping centres. ...still the culture/food/people are lovely. ..plus the transport system is amazing....going to go back to do the train too Kuala Lumpur from the border crossing near woodlands. ....
In my opinion it was better in 1989 when people enjoyed fresh air and not living indoors with the stale air being cooled.
I wish I could afford to go to Australia etc, all look's amazing thanks for letting us do this adventure with you Scott and Blair 😊 I think it's the only way I'll get to see these destinations 😅 .All the best 👌 from Liverpool 😊
Welcome to Singapore!🤩🤗
There are plenty of other considerations, but the heat and humidity are more than enough to keep me from ever wanting to visit Singapore.
You can find plenty of hotels with windows in Singapore, even hotel81
Blair is so inscrutable
Blair is so charismatic he strals the show with his one s syllable answers 😂
But he never took that wonderful smile of his face! He definitely enjoyed his travels with Dad!
Fantastic video Scott

We're going to be in Singapore in a couple of months. Can't wait to see Changi airport. Is the Jewel area outside of security (I hope).
Jewel is on the landside of the airport, open to the public.
Glad you got to the Jewel
I found the best time to do anything in Singapore is after sunset, otherwise it's far too hot and sticky
Scott, you're friend on the other side of the glass was thinking where have i seen u before, you look awfully familiar to me.🤔🤔🤔🤔🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
As a Malaysian who is envious of everything Singapore even I enjoyed and approve of this video 😊👍
Quite a fascinating place but really expensive for the important things…….i found that two or three days was enough.
Looks a bit different from the mid 90s when I worked there.😊
There must be more to Singapore than birds, zoos and shopping.
There absolutely is! It’s an amazing place - we’ve visited twice in 4 years for 10 days at a time and still have things we want to do.
The animals in the zoo actually looked very content with their surroundings. Just like they booked a few weeks holiday 😂
If you have a chance to return to Singapore, can try the Ibis Budget Singapore Imperial at Lavender. It's a pretty nice budget hotel, also located within the city centre area.
You missed the part of the zoo with the pandas! Also night safari is fun.
Always a good day when you drop a video Scott..maybe Blair could go back down under and vlog some of the hostels?

How long was that flight back to PAISLEY airport?
Very nice. I would have went for a Singapore fried rice rather than the pizza. Lovely jubbly....

He's an idiot mate.
The problem with reviews is that trolls leave poor reviews that give a false impression. You never know if the good reviews are true or the bad reviews are false.
