- Elden Ring PvP has plenty off-meta weapons that are somewhat interesting but vast majority of them are just inferior and boring downgrade to typical meta choices.
That being said, I think i found the true king of off-meta! (real)

The best off meta weapon is ballsack. No contest.
In my mind, I have this weird theory, that those off-brand, el cheapo weapons were designed for a purpose by none other than Mike El Sake himself. Like frozen needle, yeah, it knocks Malenia out of the waterfowl. Pretty good hardcounter.

i agree with you, there's a high discrepancy between weapons in Elden Ring, there's always a weapon that overshadows an entire weapon class just because it got treated better.
some examples i could have are cleanrot knight sword, bandits curved sword, shamshir. naginata, nagakiba, raptor's talons.
these weapons usually have highest AR , the longest range or a inherit status effect, sometimes all of them.
And when it's not the case, still there are weapons that performs better in comparison with other ones, like knights gs > banished gs, star fist > iron ball, GUGS > watchdog, iron gs > gargoyle > bastard swords.
i really whish in the next patches, all off-meta weapons getting some love.
Also don’t forget the somber versions of ashes that just completely outclass their counterparts like vacuum slice vs the gargoyles black blade. Unsheathe
man im so sad about Ultras in this game, the moveset sucks major certified money back garanteed ASS, and the only good one is the sword of Butts from Gersek, with the cool looking ones being bad
Man, i tries heavy watchdogs on 69 strength, and even tho it has a greater scaling and less range, Greatsword still has higher AR. How does that make any sense?
The problem steel doesn’t know is that a lot of these off meta somber weapons scaling is deceiving and actually tend to scale best on quality builds like Godfrey’s greataxe. The issue is, quality builds sucks on everything else in Elden ring
4:43 its not that the range is bad, its that the Brainrot's TS is minddnumblingly long, the Fridge Stalactite is the fair range for a TS
Seems we get a cancer TS every iteration, though half of that has been over tuned counter damage. Let's see if Malenia's Strapon gets dethroned in the DLC.
ds2 best souls game when it comes to pvp, period. No ds1 bs cancer, no ds3 murky and glitches, no elden ring l2fest. Only honest QAs, stance swaps, turtles and glorious 1000 counter damage katanas.

Soul memory? In all souls low level pvp its better imo. Faster fights, no room for mistakes, spamming will get you killed, less bs to rely on if youre trash…
i legitimately LOVE the Frozen Needle. but sadly it really does underperform to no end compared to the other thrusters. its only real saving grace is its unique heavy, but it is pure physical damage. so it gets mitigated by most armour sets or buffs. and even its frost build is worse than many other ice weapons or frost buffs.
The thing with those unique weapons is that most of them, you can't play like you would with a normal weapon, like the ice needle, which is a good off meta weapon if you know how to mix the projectile with your atacks. And the ice needle is even better when you have a good off hand to use, to compensate it's bad side, I like to use the dragon halberd for example.... It's a really cool build kekw.
Color me surprised, the Winged Greathorn debuff isn't total shit. It's a no-frills effect that lingers for a good while and comes out in a reasonable timeframe.

Glad to see ace of Godfrey get some attention. And yes, it does perform better in duel rather than invasions. You cam reaction r2 when buffed to force a trade with an offstoc follow up l1. Nice true combo

I actually started my first randomizer run and got given these beautiful giant balls for starter weapons. Been very nice for breaking stances tbh

I did a run with the needle once, fun little weapon, nice frost buildup when paired with frost cleanrot. Very noob friendly since you can spam projectiles with no fp cost. Bretty gud in pve

Some weapons are just made better because they take more equip load, which makes sense. But this will only make a difference at very low level. Beyond level 90 or so, everyone will just choose the hardest hitting weapon of the type, regardless of how much it weighs.
It just makes sense from an AR prospective, that's the problem.
Nagakiba overshadows every katana in the game for example, Gugs overshadows every UGS, shamshir in the curved swords, Cleanrot knight's sword the best thrusting sword and so on.
Even though you could argue that there are better katanas, colossal swords, curved swords and so on, the problem is broader than this:
There are basically full weapon classes that are off-meta, it's not even in the weapon class itself

Beast man's at least has the jumping attack combo, its just not that big.
I tried to land it in the colosseum for a whole day with no success. That jump R2 is pretty bad and even if you land the whole thing it's like barely any more damage than a paired jump L1.
like yeah its cool but spamming r1 with the shamshir is just better with fromsoft latency, or spamming Bandit's with statuses
Axe Of Godfrey is really a quality weapon in disguise, that's why it seems so poor on strength. Why is it designed to be a quality weapon? Fuck if I know.

dual GHammers is only ever viable on the jump L1s, the rest is just mainhand attacks and MAYBE catalyst in the mainhand for unexpected L1 offham attacks
You can maybe make a case for 2 handed great hammers if they have a good r2 (which I think most of them do. But that about all you’re gonna get out of them
