I'm Precious, an Emergency Medicine resident physician sharing my experiences through medicine and life. Through my channel I hope to show that life is meant to be lived and enjoyed throughout the journey, not only at the final destination. Hang in there, girl, hang in there; you don't know how many women are inspired to pursue medicine. Follow your dream.
I have been following you for a while and am so happy for you. 4 more months to go. Hang in there, you got this.
I am so glad you have shared your journey throughout the years. Although mine has not been straight, I am still moving toward my dream of being a physician and your videos have been a major inspiration. I’m glad you don’t allow the limitations of human beings to prevent you from moving in your God given abilities girl!!! ❤️
Micro aggressions within medicine are real. For example, I have seen where women of color in power positions within medicine are perceived to be someone “outside” of their position. A black female doctor walks in the room in scrubs and is automatically labeled as “the nurse.” A black female administrator (often a doctor herself) walks into the room and is regarded as “the secretary.” I have immense respect for nurses and secretaries (they truly run a large part of show behind the scenes and everyone in medicine knows that). Nonetheless, it is a micro aggression. There is an unwritten (honestly ridiculous) hierarchy within medicine that both patients and medical professionals are aware of. Thus, to know that these same individuals often opt to perceive black women as being someone of a lesser position within this hierarchy-without second thought- is just sad. Stay strong, and keep your head up sis! Assert yourself, and let your presence and demeanor command the respect you deserve.
Is that something common among all women doctors?
Hay Precious, thanks for posting on-top of the full schedule you have. I’m sorry you’ve experienced Macro/Micro-aggressions.
I just wanted to encourage you to keep going Sis (is it really four months left?!! Wow time flies!!!) Some days are easier than others to rebound from those experiences.
You however are an inspiration and I pray for your strength, resilience and continued success because I know you’re forecast to do amazing things.
Enjoy Jamaica!! If you can, try a rafting tour on the Martha Brae. Have an ease full trip❣️
I appreciate that so much 🙏🏾
I'm glad that you finally addressed that topic because you go from place to place and make it look so easy this helps me a lot to see its not all travel or books again thanks keep up the great work. Hello Stanley you a lucky man I know you're proud of your lady smart and pretty god bless prayers always😊
Happy New Year! I respect, appreciate and admire the fact that you continue to push forward through the ignorance and hard times. I prefer to see doctors who look like me. Please Vlog the 🇯🇲 trip. Have a good week🖤
Yay to Shrimp and Grits- an old southern classic and one of my favorites! :) Also the raspberry, blackberry and blueberry combo has become a new fav of mine. I wasn't a berry person like that, but it's great with all bran buds cereal with a few nuts!
Yess I’ve really been loving the combo of those berries
Hang in there. I’m so sorry you have to endure this. Keep going girl you are brilliant don’t forget that ❤
I’ve worked in residency education almost a decade. What residents go through is hard to see. Keep moving forward.
You are Precious! Keep being precious and just know that none can take away your blessings.
Welcome back. Keep on killing those goals! You’re doing an amazing job in your career. Can’t wait to see your Jamaica vlog!
You’re so inspiring! And I’m glad you did speak on being black in medicine. I’m glad to see you pushing through!
Dr. Precious I know you was keeping it professional on camera for the YT team but I hope you gave who ever trespassed against you some Big UP Oya and Oshun energy right in they face with they looking azz! I don’t need to know what happen and I’m mad 😠. May God keep you and Stanley covered as y’all travel. I’m so proud of you 👏🏽 wow time does fly!
Thank you 🙏🏾
I loved how calmly you shared your story about the micro aggressions. Most conversations like this that I witness usually leave me cringing and overwhelmed by the perception that I'm that problem (just for being white and no other reason and I'm not even involved in the offense). I feel like we could actually have a productive conversation about this very important subject with the way you presented it. I hate that you experienced that and I just believe in treating all people kindly. Judge people by their character and not their appearances and obviously you're right, "It's not you, it's them."
Residency has absolutely been challenging! In so many ways even this one sadly. ICU was a like my best learning experience and EM was challenging for me. I can’t wait for my clinic days. I wore a CGM once too at work!
I’m so happy for you being almost done. I’m a little over a year away from FM boards then GRADUATION!
Time really does fly!
Hey there! It was nice seeing a snippet of my love in this video. 🙂 Not sure if he told you but thank you so much for the gift. They will definitely get utilized. Enjoyed the video.
Hey Carin! Yes he told me, I’m glad you like them! ❤️
Know that you are fully capable. You're a BOSS!
You are inspiring and amazing - you’re gunna be such an awesome attending!
Welcome back, Precious! I know Jamaica is well earned & deserved. Hope you have great trip!
Welcome back Precious! Sorry you have been dealing with micro aggressions!
Thank you ❤️
@@WhiteCoatChronicles You’re welcome ❤️
When I saw you tap your arm, I knew you had a libre on! I feel like I might have to try using one of these days, so my libre counselling can get better
OMG, a 110 "spike" As someone who worked in Endocrinology, and taught Freestyle Libre CGMs, that's funny to me! Nutrisense CGMs are very expensive. There is a company called Supersapiens that is only selling CGMS in Europe. Some of our US athletes are able to get them. I'm hoping the prices eventually become more affordable when more companies move into the US market. Good luck... the next four months will fly by. Sorry to hear about your experience. Being in FL can't help. You are *STRONG* !!!
Yeah CGMs would be so beneficial to patients with diabetes. I’m not sure if insurance covers it, but affordable options are definitely needed.
Most insurance companies cover or greatly decrease the cost with a diabetes diagnosis. Providers are pushing to have them covered with a prediabetes diagnosis. An attempt to increase patients' awareness before developing full blown diabetes.
Being a educated black woman in tbe medical profession is a stigma anyways. Perhaps its the location? Look forward to moving to a city with more black professionals and patients. The finish line is very near. U got this!
Missed Ya...You got this 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾🫶🏾Congrats 🏥👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Continue to stay strong 💪🏾. Btw cool scrubs - in the UK we would never be allowed to have 'blm' on our uniform. Great that you get to have some form of expression on what you wear!
Thank you!
Ooooh, Chicken stock in the grits! I gotta try that!!
I have a question: If you don't mind answering. As a doctor, medical conditions and new medications are constantly evolving and being introduced. Do you have to do annual training for these reasons? Does your employer pay you to have those training courses done every year? I always wondered about this.
Good question. Doctors have credits they have to get every year called continued medical education credits which is like refresher courses kinda. Also most specialists have to recertify through a standardized exam every 10 or so years. Outside of that it is the doctors job to stay abreast on innovations. Except in residency where I believe most programs require residents to participate in conferences. Also for medications, that’s why pharmaceutical reps exist. They go around convincing doctors to prescribe their medications and inform them of the benefits (and a lot of other things). I’m a medical student so any residents/attendings please chime in if I missed something.
@tailorforeman7082 Thank you so much. Very interesting
Can you post the smoothie ingredients? Looking for new options
Banana, milk, Greek yogurt, peanut butter, mixed frozen fruit (I like mango). & I usually add spinach, but didn’t this time.
it's in the video🙄

Are these micro/macro aggressions from coworkers and other medical staff or the patients? I’m guessing both but I’m wondering where you see it more.
They are from both. Slightly more from patients.
You Can Work For A Great Company, It Can Be The Client/ Patients Unfortunately, But On To The NEXT.. It's A Tuff Pill To Swallow When Your Jus Tryin To Help.. 😏 But Keep Going!!! 🎊🎉🎊🎉🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉🎀🎉 Woot Woot 🫶🏾🩷🫶🏾🩷🫶🏾🩷🫶🏾🩷🫶🏾🩷🫶🏾🩷🫶🏾🩷🫶🏾🩷🫶🏾🩷🫶🏾🩷👩🏾⚕️

If you feel comfortable, would you be able to elaborate on one experience for those who don't understand what women of color go through in medicine?
Being referred to as “that little black girl” by a patient. Being asked if I’m legally allowed to work in the US because of my last name.
@@WhiteCoatChronicles Thank you for sharing. I am sorry for what you have to 'tolerate' on a regular basis. Ignorant, stupid, rude, clueless & entitled people are everywhere. I pray you continue to rise above the nonsense & have an amazingly long & rewarding career in whatever specialty you choose! You got this Doc 🙏🏽❤
Did you become a doctor through affirmative action 🤢?
Everyone has to pass standardized exams to work in the medical field, affirmative action can’t help you pass exams.
Affirmative action can’t help a person pass standardized exams *
You sound so dumb. Do you think affirmative action can help someone pass 3 USMLE exams, 7 NBME subject exams and 1 board exam after residency?
Very ignorant, please think for 2 seconds before commenting something like this
Did you become a hater via natural birth ?
