  • Hi guys! First of all, I want to apologize for my congestion and nasally voice in this video. I was battling a mean cold and didn't want to miss this weeks video.
I read your comments on the "How I got into Med School" video, and you all seemed to want to hear about the residency and social media journey as well. So here we go. In this weeks video, I wanted to have an intimate conversation about my path of getting into residency, my experiences in residency, as well as how my social media route began.Being a doctor and the residency match are both complex topics. This is a much longer video than usual, and I was debating if I should split it into two parts, but the stories seemed too intertwined to separate.
I will make shorter videos in the future about social media and residency success. I really just wanted to share with you my family medicine residency journey as I hope it may inspire you or at the very least entertain you. If you enjoy this video, please give it a like, and if you want more intimate conversation style videos like this one, please let me know in the comments below! Stay happy and healthy!

i had a certain idea about you, i really thought you were just another pretty face who used the social media fame to get attention and the doctor part came second, but after seeing this video i have some newfound admiration for you and what you do. I hope you continue to use your outlet to inform people and thanks for being an honest and kind person/doctor:)

Keep up the awesome work. Thanks for the positivity also. It's nice to listen to a doctor who doesn't complain about the system and why it stinks to be a doctor. You genuily seem to love what you do.

This is insanely inspirational and just so real... also makes it all sound so easy yet it must be so hard to find that balance in your life. We don't really hear a lot about your past or personal life often, but when we do its usually with a purpose and some good reason, also remind us that you are an actual human with another life away from yt which people tend to forget when we are just looking at another face on a screen. Thank you so much for everything you do and all the best!!

All I can say is that you’re a very caring, respectful, and responsible doctor. You inspire me when it comes to learning about these things, it helps me learn more about diseases and my own health. I’ve became more educated because of you, you inspire me to learn more in school. Also, for those thinking that some people are too young or too old to learn these things are simply ridiculous and stupid. Anyone from all ranges in age can learn about health, it really doesn’t matter. I’m 12 years old and I’m learning about this, no one can stop me.

Funny how he says all residents gonna be friendly because it's stressful.
Here, OBG is considered the most stressful subject, and the PGs there always keep fighting with each other, with nursing staff, with interns,
Because they're all very stressed and overworked, they just can't keep a calm mind.
Friends turn into enemies over there...

I also hesitated to continue Electrical/Electronics Engineering because the job prospect seemed limited (that was how I saw it then). I worked in a utility company, electronics manufacturing company, and finally ended up being a network engineer, which I like doing because I am helping many people, although people don't see it. Without network engineers, banks won't have online banking or ATM. People would have to line up at the counter to withdraw money. They'd be no internet, youtube and this channel wouldn't exist.
After 10 years, things seem different. I have done different roles in my line of work but envy the dentist who installed a bridge on lower teeth, as she makes more den'gi doing what she likes. Then I realized, that this world is so unfair. A radio dj makes more den'gi than an engineer. An actor in ER or Gray's Anatomy series makes what a real surgeon would make in a year, in just one episode! Kim Kardashian gets paid more than maybe 100 teachers combined, in a month.

I'm sure he's a good dude and is a fine physician, but tbh the info he gives in his vids is not that great and At times is it misleading. The guy is simply taking advantage of his good looks to make money with RUclips vids and I don't blame him at all for that. There's no shame in using your talents/assets to get ahead, no issue with that. But there are sooo many med students and young physicians trying to make money like this and very few are actually putting really valuable content out there. Can't say this guy is one of them.

Back in the day doctors were strictly restricted to their hospitals and their medical rooms. But with technology and social media revolution, every profession has to evolve. If people say that Dr Mike is not honouring medical profession then they are stuck in the old days. I really love the work he is doing and the knowledge he spreads. Very genuine ( SOmething that's very rare nowadays). Dr. MIKE is the next generation DOCTOR. Accept it or not but evolution in any form always wins.

He's not revealing any information about his patients, he's not doing anything illegal. If anything, he's helping future applicants by giving them all this information about his personal journey.

When you go to a car dealer do you expect the same, what about a restaurant? Wall street worker? Policemen? Senators? How about everyone work in service of others and no one takes a paycheck! 😑

I wish I found out about your channel earlier. I just got my license to practice nursing as a registered nurse and I had lots of doubts during my student days. Being a nurse was never my first choice. I always loved psychology and I aspired to be a clinical psychologist but money was the problem in my family so, I was lucky enough to be offered a scholarship to study Diploma in Nursing. There were so many things that you've said in this video that I related as a nurse because it is true no matter what profession you go into. It wasn't a walk in the park for me either. I used to dread clinical postings because I would have to work odd hours, I couldn't hang out with my friends much and I felt depressed about it. I was also always scared of asking questions but in my 3rd year of nursing school, I had so much of positivity in me and I loved learning more. Thank you for sharing your story. Love from Malaysia! ♥️

Dr. Mike - thank you for this genuine and honest video! After graduating from medical school I wasn't sure if I wanted to pursue residency and practice, but it's doctors like you who have inspired me to go all the way and embrace the fear, suffering and hard work that residency entails so that I have the ability to help and treat my patients in the future - that is what matters in the end! I started documenting my journey on Intermittent Fasting and mind management on my own channel and aspire to reach the number of people that you have reached. Would love to help you out in any way I can in the future and collaborate one day! Keep up the wonderful work and remember that the world needs YOU. Lots of love from Texas - God bless my brother!!!!

I know someone who started dating their future spouse their first year of medical school. They had one date night a week, sometimes those dates were dinner and hanging out on the couch side by side (the medical student studying of course). Got married between school and residency and so far are doing just fine.

Dr. Mike reminds me of my dad. Very professional, loves his job, is very passionate about his work, and is always open to other treatments or other ways to help certain people. I love that you prioritize the need for education on social media!! Thank you for being a genuine doctor and being real. There's so much fake news and false information out there. It's nice to have someone who is genuinely concerned about the truth and science behind the topic! I know when I listen to what you have to say, I'm getting a genuine explanation from someone who knows what they're talking about. I also loved getting to hear about your medical journey! I've been a CNA, nurse tech, for a few years now, am currently in school to be a surg tech, and am even starting to look into becoming a DO/MD one day! I'm 24 and sometimes need reassurance that it's possible and I can do it. You inspire and encourage me. Thanks for being a real one, Dr. Mike, and congratulations on the well earned accomplishments!!
