    He's absolutely right on one account. I went to the range and tried this and every shot went dead straight. However, within 30 shots I was fighting myself by swinging harder. Old habits die hard.

    I’m actually working on this very thing right now. Tension free golf!!! Listen to the man, it’s incredible. Also a point not mentioned, is when I’m full tension in a round I feel like I’ve been run over by a cement truck. With tension free golf, us 50 and older, can play 18 and still feel good after a round. I still have a lot to learn, but it feels so liberating knowing you can go tension free, but then when necessary get aggressive when a shot might ask for it. Love this video 🤙🏼

    Trevor this resonates with me a ton. When I practice at the simulator or in the park I hit the ball pretty well. As soon as I get to the course whether playing by myself or in a comp it just feels like I dont know how to play golf anymore. Im so focused on playing well or hitting a score that I am gripping the living **** out of the club. I played in a compt today dreadfully after a great week of practice and someone in my group pointed out how tense I looked. A skill i must perfect. Effects my putting a lot too.

      @@tsgolf I have a low HCP but could be lower if I could avoid the hitting instinct in my swing. It is a fine line, swinging without tension and steering the club too much. Burke says tension is the worst thing in a swing. I suppose finding power or speed without tension is the issue... Thank you

    I start all my training-sessions by hitting 1 or 2 buckets like this. Now i pretty much hit it solid each time (still a little spread to the sides).
    The biggest improvement i have noticed so far is that i now can hit my long irons (I4, I5) a lot more consistent, I also noticed my 50-80% wedgeshots have gotten a LOT better.

      This is especially a drill initially here to feel the club in transition. The ground, pelvis and Ribcage separation is what will allow the arms to begin their acceleration from about P5.5-P8! Arms move into a fast acceleration once the body has built a runway!

    Thanks Trevor for yet another great topic!! I generally have tension free swings from 75 yards and in with great consistent results. Otherwise things can get tense and results are mixed.
    Do you advocate swinging at less than 100% to help insure tension free swings and more consistent shot dispersion? If so, could you do a video on what percentage of effort of swings have on consistency and shot distances? Maybe that would include swings of various lengths using short irons (GW, PW, 9I, 8I) as a suggestion🙂
    So for better consistently, would a three quarter, tension free 8I iron be a better choice compared to a full 9I where tendency is to tighten grip pressure resulting in more misses.
    Thanks!! Randy

    • @tsgolf
      @tsgolf  Год назад +2

      Thanks so much for this. I definitely think that beginning to learn how to be tension free is very useful. I would always like to see a smoother three-quarter eight iron swing over a full out hard nine iron swing. I feel like this gives a player a lot more control, feel and awareness of what the golf club is doing.
      I will definitely put this into the mix of my next string of videos that I shoot in regards to the amount of tension that we create where we should be tension free, and when we will actually create tension in the arms, hands and grip .

    This might be the 1st video I've seen that goes in depth stressing the importance of, with the exception of the grip, the most important part of the swing. Your entire swing can be perfect as far as positions, rotation & everything else but if there's tension, the club can't swing freely for maximum speed & distance. Thanks for finally covering such an important part of the swing that's rarely addressed. I can do this easily when I'm hitting wedges. No tension & good rhythm but as soon as I have to hit the 100 yards or more, I have to swing harder to get the desired distance & lose the freedom of the easy swing. How do I accelerate through impact for more distance without adding tension & swinging too hard? This seems impossible.

    No one talks about tension-free butt muscles. Recently the thought occured to me to loosen my butt cheeks (as well as my grip). Now the left butt rotates back through contact automatically with zero thought. It's much easier to keep the head in the shot when the lower body can easily spin and bend with no resistance.

      That’s cool! Starting off tension free is a big time help in my opinion! Allows for many natural movements to take place! Thanks for the comment!

    What are your thoughts on feet pressure during a “tension free” swing?

    • @tsgolf
      @tsgolf  11 месяцев назад +2

      Lead side is ball of the foot pressure breaking/ stopping fast, trail foot pushes in direction of heel (or push back like skateboarding w/ early internal rotation or trail hip/ femur). Happy to talk with you about which might be a lot easier.

    This is going to seem silly but here goes...went out and practiced today, focusing on releasing tension in hands and just feeling the club head's weight...and my hands were "fighting me." Felt like a struggle for supremacy. Sounds crazy, right? I guess this is going to take a while...

      The biggest thing I’d say here is that you still need to maintain structure. This would be for the person who struggles with making change and being able to feel where the club is.
      If you have any questions or I can help, please do let me know!

      @@tsgolf by maintaining structure are you referring to my grip?

    I'll assume that's considered a large bucket of balls.
