One of the best Batman games of all-time. Graphics are stellar in the 8-bit era, gameplay is responsive, and music is on par with Ninja Gaiden and Mega Man 2. Wish there were a few more levels though.
Sunsoft honestly made some of the greatest games that most people don't think about. Obviously Blaster Master is herald as their best game on the NES along with the Batman games. But Gremlins 2 and Journey to Silius were outstanding fun games too. The graphics and the music for those games were out of this world back then... hell EVEN NOW I am still blown away over 3 decades later. Hard to believe Batman on NES is 35 years old now.
I feel like if you've never played this game you don't understand how fucking amazing this run was. This game is retardedly difficult and he made it his bitch!
Everything in this game is so fucking badass. The dark settings,; the music; hell even his movement and speed, it just all adds up to create an NES classic IMO.
What I like about NES speed runs is that they really show that games in this era were all about rhythm and timing. You can almost tap your foot to the rhythm in which this guy plays - a mark of pure understanding of the game. And of course, it helps to get some love from the weapon drops. Good stuff. It makes me want to play my old games again.
I played this game so much that it only takes me One Batman. Now with these speed runs on old games makes me want to go back and play these again. Speed Runners have good skills.
This Batman game was one of the last games i got for my NES back in the day. Christmas 1989 I got the Sega Genesis and mostly played that console for the next few years.
Your complete mastery of this game is commendable! You taught me a few things like how to get past two of the four gear sets in the later part of stage 2 without taking damage. The other 2 I figured out you could fall right down and grapple, but those other 2 you have to grapple so LOW! Timing is so key in this game. I eventually figured out on my own you were invincible while damaging other enemies so long as you strike them first as you invade their space. Never knew of the first boss glitch. The way you handled all of the bosses was boss, and never figured out those exact methods. Haha, I knew about those shortcuts on stage 2 where you can grapple up to the next level. On the console, I usually got stuck on the squares boss. But one time I got up to the 5th stage, but never could do the vertical climb before the final fights. Never figured out how to get past those gears without taking damage. Now that I have the game on emulator I have been able to beat the game through the miracle of moderate state save abuse (I only allow myself to save at the beginning of the zones in each level). This was still a tough game! I eventually learned how to replenish my health slowly by killing the metal bombs those ceiling bubbles drop. I bet the programmers put these "grind for health" points in purposely. Another place is right before the 2nd boss you can replenish weapons and health by making those 2 needle machines and 2 runners respawn. Still a very tough game (though you make it look easy, as all you SDAers do), but at least they start you at the beginning of the level you were on, you just have to start at zone 1 of that level which is pretty fair. Still, it takes so much time to figure out how to beat certain parts of levels and bosses that you fail the first five or ten times before you figure it out (this is where state save quickens your learning curve). Then to the next roadblock where you fail five or ten times. Progress is slow. Such were the nature of many NES games. You guys are one of my favorite channels on RUclips. I grew up with these games. I stuck with NES and SNES while my friends graduated to whatever was the newest system. It is really good to see there is still interest in these old games. They require more mind power. And you actually feel accomplished when you figure out the "puzzle" of the game. Like a puzzle the programmers put out for others to figure out. An interesting interactive form of art I have always loved. I love figuring out systems which is why I like video games as well. Well, you guys absolutely 100% figure them out! Usually when I finish a game I come to see the SDA speedrun. Nowadays video games are more about showy graphics, but there are some great modern ones as well the few I've seen and played. You can tell the unabashed passion I have for these old NES and SNES games. I have no problem letting my nerd show.
coinbuyer8605 Hi buddy, I could only agree to 100% what you have written there! I also admire these speedrunners abilitys and how they execute their skills so well in very hard (and badass) games! If you like, you could visit my channel for other retro-gaming achievements (or whatever I call them). But don't be so disappointed if my videos aren't so good like the runners ones! :-D
omg, I used to die to this game all the damn time as a kid, I loved it but man watching him breeze through it makes me feel like I gotta go blaze it again just to see if I cwn
i would't call all 2d games easy. The original megaman games or ghost and goblins easy. Most 3d games are easy especially modern ones because they are designed to be easy
I love all of theses runs. I keep getting worried that you guys are going to run out of AGDQ 14 footage. I hope some how you make it last til the SGDQ!
Growing up, I remember this was the first game I had encountered with the "wall jumping" mechanic. Can anyone think of any games that predated Batman which had the wall jump mechanic?
Very cool run. I beat this the other day in 29:06, and was curious what the times for AGDQ would be. Huge difference and very cool to see all the little tricks and skill displayed.
If you read the description, you'll learn that this game was *LOOSELY* based on the movie. So... The chances of it staying true is unlikely. Besides, after all of the frustration of this game, it'd feel really satisfying just to chuck the lunatic of a tower. * shrug*
I know what some people are thinking: These guys are dork who probably live in their mom's basement. The reality is they're all probably welders, mechanics, accountants, etc
his boy with the batman shirt has graphic fantasies about the runner at all times whenever he's not stalking the guy or breaking into his house to smell stuff
Funny how this game was from the movie version yet the game play had nothing to do with the movie at all. Most games end up like that anyways. Rushed out to the market to promote a movie.
Back when Games Done Quick didn't cater to Trans people to the max (Nothing wrong with being trans but the pronoun thing was too much for me) and also banning people like Bonesaw.
One of the best Batman games of all-time. Graphics are stellar in the 8-bit era, gameplay is responsive, and music is on par with Ninja Gaiden and Mega Man 2. Wish there were a few more levels though.
Couldn't agree more. This game is one of the best plat former titles on the NES.
Legendary game but was just so hard
The bosses were kinda wack. All of Batman's rouges gallery, and they go for generic Ninja Gaiden bosses.
Sunsoft honestly made some of the greatest games that most people don't think about. Obviously Blaster Master is herald as their best game on the NES along with the Batman games. It's fucking insane how long I played this without beating it and this dude murdered it! Oh and wanna say the music in the game is awesome
2:31 Commentary Begins
3:32 Stage 1
5:00 Stage 2
7:30 Stage 3
9:47 Stage 4
12:27 Stage 5
Thank you.
This game is a masterpiece.
I love watching these kinds of classic 2d platformers the most at AGDQ. They're usually pretty fleshed out and require a lot of precision to speedrun.
Everything in this game is so fucking badass. The dark settings,; the music; hell even his movement and speed, it just all adds up to create an NES classic IMO.
"next up battletoads"
I REALLY GOTTA SEE THIS
Spazbo4 these classic games are short, anyone can speed run them.
Lets see it then Jeremy :)
Michael Cera with McLovin on the couch
The gameplay the set up the music and over all presentation is just amazing. Great run dude. I never beat it but i loved trying.

MAN, so many great games being uploaded in a row! each one has been a can't miss for me!
Some of the best video game music ever created.
This game is my addiction
Gotta love this run. This game is very good back then. Loved the music.
This Batman game was one of the last games i got for my NES back in the day. Christmas 1989 I got the Sega Genesis and mostly played that console for the next few years.
One of my favorite NES titles as a kid only behind SMB3 and TMNT 2

+coinbuyer8605 You haven't beaten the game if you abused save states
15:27
George: You're like Batman
Kramer: Yeah, yeah, I AM Batman!
this game never got the respect it deserved ... ninja gaiden on steroids!
drove me nuts as a kid.!
could never get past the 3rd stage. great gameplay
Beat it when I was 12. I could never beat a Ninja Gaiden game though.
Well if i can beat ninja gaiden i can beat batman. I'm stuck on joker.
Awesome run and commentary, great job guys.
Awesome game. Even better run. One of my favorite NES games.
One of the absolute best NES games of all time.
omg, I used to die to this game all the damn time as a kid, I loved it but man watching him breeze through it makes me feel like I gotta go blaze it again just to see if I cwn
The company sent this game to me for free as a tester. Probably for being a Nintendo Power subscriber.
Holy cow, that was freaking ridiculous!
The Tails Doll is watching!!
Whenever I went to the video store the nes games that I looked for were always Sunsoft, you could tell they made games the right way.
Did Batman just straight up murder the Joker at the end of the game?
Yup
Solid Live run....pretty damn impressive.
14:39 - Joker is like: "I got my ass kicked in 10 minutes."
Thanks for the support. The run went really well! :)
3:30
Watching these videos of you guys crushing games that I totally sucked as a kid is something else. Job well done, much respect.
I clicked on the video because when I read "10 minutes" I thought it was a gameplay full of glitches. Now my soul is crying.
Incredible. I've yet to even beat this game and these guys are doing it in 10 minutes.
It's so fitting that the Joker is beaten by fists...
wow I am stunned. He made batman on the NES look easy as hell. He owned this game
Metal_Horror_Gamer All 2D games are easy as hell... You have a full vieuw of everything that is a threat at all times.
i would't call all 2d games easy. The original megaman games or ghost and goblins easy. Most 3d games are easy especially modern ones because they are designed to be easy
+steven Claessen did you ever play that game?
Darius Razeghi Not to the extent of a speedrunner but again, you allways see every threat
beautiful run!
This game is so dope. Way cooler than any other Batman game imo
That's pretty damn fast.
This was one of my favorite nes games of all time, and ive never could pass level 3, its so frustrating
Practice!
Loved this game when I was a kid and the mega drive version excellent play through I could never beat this game
I like that whisper by dxtr at the end :P
The first time I've ever seen this game speed run was at Next Level by Josh the Funk Doc and that was godlike and Dxtr is the record holder? Nice
i clicked on this solely because of the time the thumbnail displayed. ten minutes is crazy
I love all of theses runs. I keep getting worried that you guys are going to run out of AGDQ 14 footage. I hope some how you make it last til the SGDQ!

+podpod Ninja Gaiden
Sick run.
Awesome Dexter !! I could also beat the game no death , but not that fast ! Good job !
My comment on A Boy and his Blob is caught in the spam filter. Any way to fix that or whitelist?
what happened to funkdoc?
i liked his performances during the last AGDQ a lot, especially in batman in castlevania for NES.
run starts at 3:28
Wow. Nice run on one of the best on nes.
Very cool run. I beat this the other day in 29:06, and was curious what the times for AGDQ would be. Huge difference and very cool to see all the little tricks and skill displayed.
Hm 29.06 yrs isn’t bad at all!
@@stolensentience Huh. This old comment aged badly. xD
My PB is now 9:57. :) Batman is an amazing speedrun!
This run inspired me.
@@junkyarddave what aged badly?
@@junkyarddave I now imagine you’ve been playing nothing but Batman for the last 4 yrs lol
@@stolensentience Haha, loots of other things. Definitely try out speedrunning though if you ever had an interest. :) It was fun to try out.
Gameplay is similar to Quantum Fighter Kabuki
Drink for every 'dxtr'
What's the trick he pulls against Firebug...the "magical position?"
10:11 realtime yet Dxtr is cool like a cucumber :D respect
*Ninja:* I'm gonna show you the speed of th....
*Batman:* Lol, no..
Wooooow what a great run nes 4 life
10 MINUTES! TEN MINUTES!!! I'm 41 and haven't beaten this game to this day.
Way to murder the Joker there, Batman.
1:57 why TMR leave the couch?
So Batman threw the Joker?! Thought he didn't kill people. Great run! DXTR
If you read the description, you'll learn that this game was *LOOSELY* based on the movie. So... The chances of it staying true is unlikely. Besides, after all of the frustration of this game, it'd feel really satisfying just to chuck the lunatic of a tower. * shrug*
psydust
...by dropping him off a tower
Why doesnt time end when joker gets gut punched? Do you have to hit a button on the black screen?
stage reminds of metroid fusion
This game is a masterpiece of control, music, graphics and difficulty for the NES, a true classic.
Dxtr is sheldon cooper
Nice how the event is for charity. RESPECT boys.
I know what some people are thinking: These guys are dork who probably live in their mom's basement. The reality is they're all probably welders, mechanics, accountants, etc
Astonishing.
Anyone notice all those wires on the floor. Good luck not tripping over them.
6:15 i always stuck if landing on there
Does DXTR not speedrun anymore? His Twitch is dead
I don’t understand. I put in the video, and the gentleman is playing a game, but I can’t see it.
do sunset riders
Is it just me or does the guy on the couch with the batman Tshirt talk like Jeff Goldblum ?
Micheal Serra runs video games!!!
Good run. Me like.
where's Reimu?! D:
She's at her shrine .
***** I was wondering where Reimu got to. I miss seeing her in these videos somewhere. (I treat it a little like "Where's Waldo," but that's just me)
3:31
Somehow I beat this game when I was just 6 years old.
Bravo bravo bravo👏😎
No dislike !
Like a boss :-)
Sinister! :D
Did anyone notice that tails doll there
