    Your control over the boost is truly extraordinary. I've seen my brother get very close to 1"00 and I used to think it was impossible to go below. But what you've done here is another level!

      Hello, which version of SMK are you playing on, original NTSC SNES console, or one of the re-releases such as SNES Mini / Nintendo Switch Online version? 1'01"8x is still a nice record so far with normal driving. My friend drove a 0'59"47 to compare the cornering if this helps: ruclips.net/video/N-qEuV2LEC4/видео.html. It would be advised to aim for sub minute with normal driving first before attempting off road boosts. They will also be a bit easier to do on the original SNES console for later.

    Not to be offensive, but seriously, some of you people are plain disrespectful and dense. Going offroad isn't "cheating" at all, first off. The game was designed such that this is the fastest way. Someone playing a way you don't like isn't cheating; it's just you being a sore loser.
    Second off, I'm pretty sure there isn't a single video up of anyone going significantly faster on this track, let alone with the on-road strat. Until that happens, I suggest you actually try to beat this record yourself before calling somebody out.
    Aside from that, congratulations on the record, Sami. As someone who's time trialed on newer Mario Karts a fair bit, I highly respect and recognize the skill here. I'm not a huge fan of SMK myself, but it's still nice to know that the game is still appreciated, because I do hold fond childhood memories of it.

      yeah, except you need to mod your joypad (or wear it out considerably) in order to rack up the mini-boosts. It might not be cheating but still a farcry from being 100% vanilla. Do that with a brand new pad fresh out of the box and then we'll talk.

  • @ForburyLion
    @ForburyLion 4 года назад +1

    In the 90's SuperPlay magazine published a screenshot of someone in Japan setting a Mario Circuit 1 laptime and claimed it was a World Record. I smashed that by basically playing it over and over 24 hours a day with Donkey Kong Jnrm mastering the fast starts and basically turning into a SNES Zombie - I never thought to go off circuit though!
    Sadly a kid at college borrowed my Mario Kart cartridge and then claimed his house was burgled and it was stolen, but they didn't take anything else and didn't take his SNES or any of the other games. I had to make do with a copy of Super Protector as compensation, not a bad game but it wasn't Mario Kart.
    Anyway, I now have a SNES mini so might give this another go.

    • @SamiCetinSMK
      @SamiCetinSMK  4 года назад +1

      Hello, I remember they posted a few screenshots in late 1992 / early 1993 when a player just broke under the minute barrier on NTSC which runs a little faster than the European PAL version. But then they stopped printing I think, however years later I heard the record went down to 0'58"69 by April 1993 and a Japanese competitior acquired the video of the player doing a demonstration of it. Which country are you based in, and which version of SNES did you have? The European PAL version or an import Super Famicom machine from Japan / NTSC? If you beat that one you would need to have gone off the road, but on NTSC version too. Unless you may have confused it with the 150cc Grand Prix mode which is faster and easier to reach sub minute records. It is possible to reach 59s just about with normal hop jumping on the edge of the road on NTSC, and just under 1'01" on PAL version the same method. As you have the mini now, that is good and globally NTSC version, so let me know what you can reach. You are welcome to join our Time Trial World Rankings!

      @@kobloxy44 nice one yeah I used to train my niece when she was that age, she got down to 1'02" and eventually 1'01" Anyway this makes it easy to help. My best PAL record is 1'00"99 and the vid is here. ruclips.net/video/kKRjeOHJgRY/видео.html It is doing the counter hop jumping technique just as each corner ends. Most likely he is doing that a bit late each time after cutting the corners so he is drifting out a bit each time on the straights. The other biggest tip i can give is to play all of the tracks equally, he will pick up more micro adjustment skills which will make it easier to reach the next level on Mario Circuit 1. Hi Bobby B, how are you? Yes the off road boosting was already used in Japan since 1993, we discovered it around 10 years later and many around the world use the techniques ever since for both Time Trial and multiplayer competition on SMK. Most of the other later Mario Kart titles also have some form of mini turbo boosts that can gain time or prevent slowdown while off road. For SMK it is important to maximise the normal driving with hop jumping first before doing these techniques. What system are you playing on, original SNES PAL / NTSC or one of the re-release versions such as SNES MIni / Nintendo Switch Online versions which are globally NTSC? I have a PAL version normal driving record in 1'00"99 from around June 2019 on my channel plus an old NTSC one without boosts in 0'59"49 from over 10 years ago also on my channel. Those may be useful to learn from first. Let me know how you get on and what system you are using and what records you have reached so far. Another big tip is to play all of the other courses, you will learn key driving mechanics which will help you for the first track. Good luck!

    @Richard Smart - The last lap was faster cause he took the dirt path at the end. it slows you down but the difference isn't as much as if he would have taken the regular path. This caused the lap to be faster but he lost more speed overall (not needed cause course was complete).
    He may have been able to shave off .15 seconds due to 3rd and 4th laps being a bit slower but thats bout it. Still 1 hell of a run.

      +Mark Turner Ok, if you only have 1'08" so far, i would recommend leaving the off road boosting strategies as it is far too early. They are very complex and will only benefit when players reach the Top 50-60 Worldwide rankings. In which cae you would need to be at 1'01" high first with normal driving to really make it take effect. Can I ask if you are playing PAL or NTSC version SNES and SMK? You should watch my non-boost videos to help on the normal hop jumping driving arond the edge of the road. If you get a full timeset on all the tracks (course and best lap for all tracks from Mario Circuit 1 through to Rainbow Road you should join us and can help you get some fast times very quickly with some videos to help with strategies.

      Hi Gareth, if your lap is still at 13"23 it is too early to start the off road boosting. It will only be effective to get that little bit further once absolutely maxing out on normal driving first, which I can help point you in the right direction with. Firstly, my quick question is, which version are you playing on? Original PAL version SNES console (Europe / Australia), or Original NTSC SNES console or SFC console (America / Japan)?, or one of the re-release versions such as the SNES Mini classic, or the Nintendo Switch Online SNES version? Please let me know then I will send you a different video to learn from first.

      Hello Minus274, nice to meet you. The SNES Classic Mini is globally NTSC. You are welcome to compete with that on NTSC, just do not use any save states or rewind function as that is banned obviously. Please play it as if it was an original SNES. If you would like to compete on the PAL version and compare records with other players in Switzerland, you can find cheap PAL consoles on ebay or something quite easily, and an original PAL SMK. That will likely have been the version you played back when the game released. the NTSC version has some slight differences and is a little faster. There is joining information on this link here, simply do a full time set (course time and best lap on all 40 tracks then you can send the records to me). It is recommended to reach sub minute preferably first the regular way before any off road boosting techniques and also master the other tracks to reach around 70th - 80th on our overall ranking first as a pointer. Please don't worry about the cartridge as the internal battery paks often did that due to their age. Just keep a note of your records on a notepad file then after a session you won't lose them if you switch the game off and they erase again on the cartridge. I have a 1'00"99 on original PAL SNES without boosts, and 0'59"49 on NTSC original, both vids are on my channel from June 2019 and somewhere around 2011 respectively. In regards to the off road boosting, this was discovered in Japan way back in 1993 and presented on tv there. My friend has the video of it on his channel. If you hold the R button while sliding around a corner for long enough and then countersteer and release R, your engine sound goes up for a moment and you get a little boost. You probably did this a lot already on hairpin turns. Good idea is to test it on final corner of Donut Plains 1. You can cut a bit of the grass at the end. There are more complex techniques as well. The recommendation is to absolutely max out on normal driving on the edge of the road first, before doing off road boosting. Only then will it be more effective so you don't go wide anywhere. 1'03" is a great record! You would be welcome to join our rankings if you play on an official Nintendo release of the game as I mentioned at the start of the post. I look forward to hear from you.

    • @SamiCetinSMK
      @SamiCetinSMK  3 года назад +1

      Hi Swift, how are you? Sure our community are asked often, the mini turbo boost technique has been there since the beginning so I have cut and paste an earlier short explanation I have made, It might be easier to practice first on the final corner of Donut Plains 1. However the other more important thing is to only do the off road boosting once you have absolutely maxed out normal driving. What system do you play on, and please remind me are you based in Europe / America? And what is your current record driving the regular way on the edge of the road? Here is the other detail for you:
      While holding R you can perform a slide while turning. If the slide goes on for long enough, then you countersteer and release R, or counter steer jump you can do a mini turbo boost. The engine sound goes up a little. It is easier to practice on Donut Plains 1, maybe the final corner to cut the grass there. This off road boosting technique has been around since 1993 when it was presented on TV in Japan. Here you can see a version of the boost to cut one of the corners, the slide is also done on the final corner and you can hear the engine sound go up afterwards too. However it is highly recommended to master the track with regular driving first on the edge of the road. I have other videos on my channel with that. Meanwhile here is the 1993 video from Japan: ruclips.net/video/OqKhlfM8VGs/видео.html

    This time is pretty fxckin’ amazing man.
    For 29 years I’ve played this game. We play on my bro’s OG SNES - the one we played all those years ago. We shared the big bedroom until our teens but those years aged 9 to 12 with a bed each either side of the room and massive tv in the middle with my Megadrive and his SNES. I was a Sega fan boy and he was a Nintendo fam boy. I always knew his console was better. SFII, Killer Instinct, Stunt Race FX, ISS Pro, Bomberman, NHLPA 93, Streetracer, SFII Turbo edition were played religiously but one game above all was the holiest of holy… SNES SUPER MARIO KART. If I went back into that house and peeled the wallpaper off there are lots of points tables we drew on the plaster to keep scores in our competitions. Always best of five of five games. So five matches of something to get the point. Then five games played making a best of five series. Such good memories.
    Still to this day my bro and I or my friend of 25 years Mark have a Mushroom Cup 150cc then hit Rainbow Road for a one on one. It’s tradition to us. It’s just part of our lives. Always will be. We still revisit some of the games I’ve mentioned but none are still a relevant game to us like SMK.
    BUT… in all that time I’ve never seen your strategy. I’m really interested how going on the sand does not slow you down. Do you keep slide down or is it just about cutting every corner as fine as possible and the rest will work out. Because DK has slow acceleration so I’m both amazing but intrigued and confused and want to learn how to play the game like that.

      The off road boosting technique has been around a long time, i will explain below. I would recommend maxing out on normal sharp driving first. Are you based in Europe or America? Then i can see if your original SNES was PAL or NTSC versions. I have a PAL 1'00"99 on Mario Circuit 1 set in June 2019, it is on this channel too. That is just driving on the edge of the road, equivalent to a 0'59"4x on NTSC at least. Also maybe have a look at my Vanilla Lake 2 record video I set last October 2020, in 47 seconds. There are some crazy driving strategies just with normal hopping. The off road boosting is only effective across the boards once you have maxed out all of the tracks the regular driving way. Anyway back to the boosting; while holding R you can perform a slide while turning. If the slide goes on for long enough, then you countersteer and release R, or counter steer jump you can do a mini turbo boost. The engine sound goes up a little which you will have done a lot on hairpin turns. It is easier to practice on Donut Plains 1, maybe the final corner to cut the grass there. This off road boosting technique has been around since 1993 when it was presented on TV in Japan. Here you can see a video of the boost to cut one of the corners, the slide is also done on the final corner and you can hear the engine sound go up afterwards too. I have other videos on my channel with that. Meanwhile here is the 1993 video from Japan which a friend there who also competes on Time Trial uploaded (it is not him driving this one but you can check his other videos out too. It shows in slow motion plus they explain the technique above in Japanese. ruclips.net/video/OqKhlfM8VGs/видео.html I look forward to hear from you soon! Regards, Sami

      There’s a lot to digest there and I will scour every word of it. I do play PAL UK version on the OG SNES but lately I’ve started playing on my daughters new Switch. I play on the switch handheld and I play it docked through HDMI on my 4K TV. There’s lots to consider there including any input lag from the wireless joycons. I suppose that’s all something I’ll have to look into. Which brings up the question.. does the time trial rankings world you mention only accept submissions from the SNES console version of the game or could a Switch run count? @@markhodgin8945 Hi Mark, that is excellent news. So basically original SNES consoles are fine, and that is best that you still use the original PAL UK version of the console and game. I would stick to that for now as it is the easiest one to use. The Switch version, snes mini etc are all globally NTSC, which can be used for those rankings also. But save states obviously are strictly prohibited. Also there is a slight input delay in any of the re-releases, you might notice that slightly. PC emulators we do not allow and you are right again, they do also feel different. So basically yes as you have the original PAL SNES console, use that one, which will be perfect. All you need to do is get a full time set on all 20 tracks (a course time and best lap) and you can e-mail them to me. I update the Time Trial World Rankings every week on Mondays, players normally send me their records (and improvements) on Sundays, for ease of updating.
      I will also show you my PAL version normal driving record on the edge of the road in 1'00"99. (ruclips.net/video/kKRjeOHJgRY/видео.html) I would strongly recommend not playing one course only a lot though. Play all of the courses on an equal basis, you will learn more driving techniques as you practice on the harder ones, plus some are very enjoyable / fulfilling. Ghost Valley 3 was also a nice track (old video apologies - ruclips.net/video/KernmCORGLQ/видео.html), plus you may like Vanilla lake 2, it has a few ridiculous routes now : (ruclips.net/video/G46fpa08Wfc/видео.html). Hello Nahim, there are mini turbos that you can do by sliding holding L or R for long enough then countersteering and releasing the jump or jumping. You probably noticed it on hairpin turns when you slide round the corner with R held, then release R at the end and the engine sound goes up for a moment. This is the mini turbo boost. If it is released before some grass or sand it can cut a bit without slowdown. This technique has been used since the game's release. There was a video in Japan presenting it way back in 1993 where a player did an example and they explain in Japanese how it is done: ruclips.net/video/OqKhlfM8VGs/видео.html

    Can someone here explain to me how to move fast in the dirt?

    • @SamiCetinSMK
      @SamiCetinSMK  2 года назад +1

      Hi Mike, thank you for your message. Basic way to explain is how to get the mini turbo boosts. Then you try to use them off road. You will have done the boosts before likely but not realised it. If you hold R around a hairpin turn, then countersteer and release R you probably noticed the engine sound go up a little for a moment. This is the mini turbo boost. Activate that same thing just before some off road grass or sand and you can cut some of it without speed loss. More advanced techniques are zig zagging the turn direction on the d-pad while holding R to charge a boost but this has to be done quickly else the charge of the boost is cancelled and it won't work. The basic off road boost was first presented on a Japanese TV show where a player did a demonstration back in 1993. You can see this example here: ruclips.net/video/OqKhlfM8VGs/видео.html. There are many other techniques that are usefulon Time Trial and even multiplayer modes. But it is important to maximise the normal driving on the edge of the road first. Which system are you playing on? Original SNES console or one of the re-releases (e.g SNES mini / Nintendo Switch SNES Online )? What is your best course record at the moment? My friend also set a very nice example of driving on the edge of the road without any off-road boosts. This may be useful. ruclips.net/video/N-qEuV2LEC4/видео.html. These two clips are the faster NTSC version by the way. My 0'57"90 is on original PAL. I have 0'55"97 on original NTSC Super Famicom. Hope that helps :)

      The basic hopping technique is easy when you know how. The boosting that you see only gives an extra 5% lift up I would say on the core driving mechanics. Have a look at my 1'00"99 video for this track on PAL Version that I uploaded in around June 2019 specifically. That may help understand the normal driving mechanics to keep on the edge of the road. I'm sure every game has their complexities which are hard to understand.

    • @SamiCetinSMK
      @SamiCetinSMK  4 года назад

      Hi captain wolf12, Nice to meet you! Great to hear you have picked up a copy of the game. Is it on an original NTSC console or one of the re-released on SNES Mini / Virtual consoles / Nintendo Switch Online? Anyway, it is possible to do mini turbo boosts in SMK if you hold the R button for long enough while sliding on a corner, this can be achieved in one slide or with zigzag motions of the dpad to prolong the charge of a slide, then a countersteer and release of R, or countersteer and jump with R simulatenously to release it. However if you are using one of the virtual consoles / SNES mini etc it will be harder to trigger some of these as the pivot point in the dpad is higher. But the basic power slide boosts can be practiced on hairpin turns,. If you hold R round one, then countersteer and release, youl notice the engine sound sometimes goes up for a moment. The kart often twitches a bit. That is the mini turbo. Use that on the edge of a road and it can cut across a bit of the grass / sand without slowdown. We call this New Boosting Techniques (NBT), but it was actually discovered in Japan way back in 1993 when a former record holder there used the technique. He was invited to a TV show and did the demonstration there and they explained some of the techniques in Japanese. Here is a sample of the video found by one of the Japanese players on our ranking: ruclips.net/video/yEpYnoCILTA/видео.html
      1'03" is a great start, however I would strongly recommend maximising on normal driving first. Which is basically just jumping around corners as sharp as possible without any off road boosting. We call this Non-NBT. On my channel last year in June you will find a PAL version video of 1'00"99. Please refer to that. That shows this precisely. On NTSC it is equivalent to approximately 0'59"3x although the turn angles are very slightly different. Another friend in Japan recently drove a 0'59"47 this way, please compare that one to your current route as it will help: ruclips.net/video/ByqxOLLG9SI/видео.html
      I would recommend not doing any off road boosting until you can reach 1 minute flap, preferably even below a minute on NTSC. Else you are adding too many obstacles in and can easily lose time on normal driving corners. Another huge tip is to play all of the courses evenly, not just Mario Circuit 1, you will gain a lot more skill from the harder and more neglected courses as you Time Trial them more often and it will give you an added increase on Mario Circuit 1.
      Would you like to join our Time Trial World Rankings? We have nearly 600 players each on NTSC and PAL versions worldwide and I update weekly. There is a new player joining this week with 1'10" on Mario Circuit 1 for example. You will want to reach an overall rank of well above Top 100 (this is with a full timeset) before the off road boosting techniques will be effective. Mario Circuit 1 will need to get to a minute flat or under. The techniques to go for are yes the rapid hop jumping to cut the corners tight. But the biggest tip I can suggest is to practice all of the tracks evenly. As you play some harder tracks then return to Mario Circuit 1 you will automatically rapidly improve there. Once you join youl see where you rank on each track. The off road boosting is something that is done once you have absolutely maxed out on normal driving first on the edge of the road. It is great you are playing on the original PAL version, 1'04" is a great start! You will want to get to around 1'01" mid-high ideally first. But also to help with Mario Circuit 1 the biggest tip I can give is to play all of the tracks on an equal basis, including some of the hardest ones. This will improve your skill level a lot and Mario Circuit 1 will in turn get faster. A lot of players only do Mario Circuit 1 or Ghost Valley and they tend to plateau at certain times. Here is my 1'00"99 without any off road boosting or pipe jumps to show you the course maxed out, use rapid hop jumps, and the moment a turn finishes release the turn direction and jump to straighten up. You should definitely aim for sub minute with rapid hop jumping and play Time Trials on all of the courses, it will greatly increase your level and you will be able to improve Mario Circuit 1 by far. Please see my 0'59"49 the classic driving method as a guideline, sorry for the quality as it is with an old camera but gives an idea:

However speed runs aren't really recorded much for Time Trial, but on speedrun.com some players do it for 150cc and we compete at World Championships annually in USA and the Netherlands. @@bentattersfield7987 the timer doesn't stop on even numbers at the 1'00" range on PAL, 39 or 41 is possible to finish on PAL. But 1'00"40 would be a valid NTSC time. If you are from UK or Austalia for example you probably did have the PAL snes original, so it might be that the record was 1'10"40 or 1'06"40 for example. Not a problem for forgetting the number of it was a long time ago. I remember a friend from school said he had a 1'02" with Luigi on Mario Circuit 1 and 1'06" on Ghost Valley 1. Later turned out he had a 1'06" on Mario Circuit 1 and 1'12" on Ghost Valley 1, just a slight forget on that one. The NTSC version of Super Mario Kart is available with the Nintendo Switch Online SNES. That runs a bit faster than PAL. But even better if you still have your original PAL SNES you should try giving it a go and recording a video of the replay and adding it to RUclips. Not many play with Koopa Troopa, but basically my PAL record driving the classic way on the edge of the road with D.K.Jr is 1'00"99, it would be the equivalent of around a 1'05" with Koopa Troopa on Time Trial driving in the exact same position on the road. Chico Ramos although the official time trial competition needs to be done on original snes, just for demonstration purposes you may do a test on it on one of the download versions. Wii or wii u or 3ds virtual consoles have it available and they run almost as smoothly. There is also the snes mini that has smk on so there are lots of options. That will be the good thing though, if your best time was 58 to 59 seconds you should be able to do 1'01 with Luigi in just a few attempts as it will be much slower and easier to reach. Perhaps in just a few tries. Please let me know when you have tried and add a video to youtube, it would be great to see :)

    How do you accelerate so fast and not decelerate on the dirt?

    • @SamiCetinSMK
      @SamiCetinSMK  4 года назад

      There is a zoom start at the beginning by pressing B between the first two lights. There are mini turbos possible by holding R and sliding round corners for a certain amount of time, then counter hopping or countersteering to release the mini turbo when it is charged enough. This is easily possible on hairpin turns, after sliding round holding R you will hear the engine sound go up sometimes after straightening up. This is the mini turbo boost. If this is executed just before some sand / grass / light water / snow it is possible to cut portions of it without slowdown. This was first discovered in Japan in late 1992 / early 1993 and a player was invited to do an early demonstration on Japanese TV in around summer 1993 or so. You can see how they show the technique in slow motion as well. We use this technique on all of the courses nearly now, including while racing at our world championships; here is the video from Japan: ruclips.net/video/OqKhlfM8VGs/видео.html

    • @SamiCetinSMK
      @SamiCetinSMK  5 лет назад

      Hello, this is a technique that has been discovered by Time Trial players in Japan in 1993 and used widely since then. If you hold R and slide round a corner for long enough then countersteer and release R or countersteer and jump again with R simultaneously you will get a mini turbo. The engine sound goes up for a moment. You will have achieved this on hairpin turns already a lot probably. If you can execute this just before some off road terrain you will boost across a portion of it without slowdown. This is called New Boosting techniques or NBT. Please note though that it is best to maximise normal driving with just jumping on the edge of the road first. Please see my 1'00"99 video I posted up on the 1st of June or so on my channel to detail that. Several of our players on our rankings also have videos up. Actually you are using the faster NTSC version. This video you saw is the slower PAL version one, so you need to compare with my 0'55"97 video: ruclips.net/video/22kscAspg3o/видео.html. Are you playing on the SNES Mini or the Nintendo Switch Online version, or an original SNES that has purple buttons? You need to do a mini turbo technique to drive across the sand or grass. However if you are at 1'02" level without a boost, it is still too early. You need to aim for 59 seconds without a boost ideally to maximise the normal driving techniques. I have a 0'59"49 on my channel if you want to see but the quality is a bit older. My friend in Japan got a 0'59"47 not long ago with normal driving, so this will be great for you to learn from. +Lucas Souza, you can do mini turbos like in the other Mario kart games to help boost off road by zig sagging the dpad fast while holding R. Then counter jumping if it is charged. Difficult to do on Mario Circuit 1 and only worth the gain if you can absolutely max out on normal driving first. Easier to test on final corner of Donut Plains 1, do one continuous power slide holding r, then counter steer just before the grass, and you should get a mini boost helping you to cut some grass without slowdown. You may find you get a boost sound after any hairpin turns sometimes, this is the mini turbo in the game.

      ibbotsoni Absolutely right, after you do a long powerslide around a hairpin turn and countersteer, engine sound goes up a bit for a moment and sometimes kart twitches to one side a little. Unless it was 1'01"96 then it will be on PAL. The off road boosting we are doing is official driving routes as they have been used in Japan since 1993, therefore not cheats. We basically keep separate lists for non boosting times as per the 1'01"05. It is on my channel if you search for it. Type Sami Cetin 1'01"05. Steven is from Twickenham, Andy is from Kensington, Prashant from Harrow, Ed from Ealing, David Holliss from Hillingdon and David Lightfoot from Richmond. They are all retired players though on occasion they may pop back with some new records. You can see that your Mario Circuit 1 times would be in front, so you have potential to take them on the rest of the courses as well:

    I am certain that I got 54 or 56 on this course back in 1994. I obviously have no way of proving it as I no longer have my original Mario Kart game, I I have no way of confirming. Is it possibly to get 54 or 56? or is this faulty memory? I 100% remember that I did not go on the dirt. I stayed on the track the whole time, taking every turn impossibly tight. It was a perfect run that got me my best time.

      Petrus Amp hi there, we have many mentions with the same, you would have been playing on 150cc grand prix mode to reach the lower 54 to 56 level without off road boosting. The limits would be nearer 59 flat on ntsc and a mid 1'00" on pal even with tool assisted times just normal driving. But can do down to 48 / 51 on NTSC / PAL for 150. • @SamiCetinSMK
      @SamiCetinSMK  4 года назад

If it was the original SNES PAL version, it might have been 150cc Grand Prix mode as many people who hadn't played since then forgot the time differences. It is common to get records in the 50s in the 150cc Grand Prix mode. @@SamiCetinSMK Hey Sami, I thought I held the world record many many ....many years ago on the SNES console, I got around 59 seconds beating what I thought was the next best time of about 1:01min at that time (around year 1994). I'm puzzled by your ability to go on the dirt without slowing down immensely, especially for the likes of Bowser and Donkey, who have poor acceleration once slowed down regardless if ur boosted. I was, at least I thought I was, an incredible player who just loved to find shortcuts on every track and assume that I must have tried using ur route. In fact I got bored playing at 150cc, that I moved on to the emulator and skipped frames so that I can play the game at maybe 3-5 times the speed (I can't remember exact speed-up but it was v fast) and loved the challenge driving on Rainbow road at that speed without falling off. Is it maybe possible that you were able to do what you did because you ran it on an emulator? Or is that on the original console? I just can't see how its possible on the console and sadly I no longer have a SNES to attempt ur route.

      @@Zeidinho Hi, thanks for your message, we are playing on original SNES consoles, and some of the later official Nintendo re-releases of Super Mario Kart. I myself only play on the original consoles. The off road boosting was discovered by the Japanese players way back at the start not long after release and they first reached 58 seconds back in 1993. Though we did not realise these techniques ourselves until near 10 years after, but have been using them ever since. It is generated by holding R while sliding for long enough or zig zagging with the d-pad to charge the boost then counter steer jumping to release the mini turbo. You will probably notice on hairpin turns that the boost sound is generated after sliding round holding R then straightening up. If that is generated just before some off road you will boost across some of it without slowdown. B can be released to extend the boost also but it only lasts so long then you have to return to the road. Normal driving on the edge of the road must be maximised first before using the off road boosting. You can check my PAL version 1'00"99 (1st June 2019) and my 0'59"49 NTSC videos (from around 10 years ago) on my channel too and others such as Ghost Valley 3, Vanilla Lake 2 and Rainbow Road which rely on more normal driving techniques jumping over corners. My friend and I who is also a record holder had the opportunity to do a live run at the Awesome Games Done Quick Event in 2017, where you will see us off road boosting everywhere on all 20 tracks. Here is the video for reference: ruclips.net/video/xFXIJnglotA/видео.html It was a lot of fun. If you can get an original SNES console you should definitely consider joining our Time Trial World Rankings again. Have a look on ebay :)

      @@SamiCetinSMK thx for getting back to me. Sadly my gaming days are more or less over, but may consider it if I get more time for myself which gets harder the older u get.
      My time was on PAL original snes console, I can't be sure what the world record was back then, the only one I saw was around 1:01, so was surprised of the 0:58 in Japan u mentioned around that time. I of course used Bowser and don't think anyone could have improved on my time seeing that I couldnt possibly get closer to the pipes at each hairpin b4 applying boost.
      Maybe I didn't try the shortcut sandpit enough times to see if it can work but it just seems impossible when u think about it. Example, after the hairpin b4 the big sandpit, assumimg ur boost can carry you over the shortcut without much speed loss, I still can't see how you could still retain enough speed to do another short cut straight after near finish line which u successfully did in your video. Maybe I didn't perfect the zigzag technique, who knows but def worth trying ur technique if I can make the time!
      Ill check ur other videos now. Thx!
      P.S play PC emulator with skipped frames until u get a very fast version of the game, it's very hard to get back to the original and competitive racing against good players is crazy fun as it becomes pure skill to stay on track.

      Sami Cetin , I havnt had a SNES in years, but I did play Mario kart yesterday while visiting a friend, he has one of those new mini SNES things. That what made me come on RUclips and search lol.
      It wasn't in grad Prix mode no, it was all done in time trial mode. Me and my brother did nothing but time trial after watching a TV programme back in the day called gamesworld I think was on sky one (UK) There was a guy on there called "big boy Barry " who got a 59 secs and claimed to have the record. For the next few weeks myself and my brother spent our gaming time trying to beat it. We both got into the 56s , he got a 56.7 I beleive in the end, but I had the fasted that neither of us could ever beat again. When I played last night for the first time in maybe 15 years, I got a 1:01 against my friend in a Vs race (100cc) on my third race. If a could get hold of a SNES, I'd try it, and tbh wouldn't take me long to get sub 59 in time trial. I could do that easy back in the day.
      Tbh watching your video a have no idea how you even manage to get a 57 going across the gravel. To me that looks like a glitch that shouldn't happen, . I got my time staying on the race track..

    • @SamiCetinSMK
      @SamiCetinSMK  7 лет назад

      Hi again, thats great that you got to have a go again. The SNES mini is based on NTSC version globally. So you will need to compare to my boosting record of 0'55"97 or my non pipe jump classic cornering way of 0'59"49. You can find both the videos on my channel. On the Time Trial mode even with Tool Assisted runs on the faster NTSC version it will be impossible to break under 58" - 59" if you stay on the road on Time Trial. This has been tested. The best tool assisted runs reach 54" at max with off road boosting and it is the only way to reach 55 - 58 level. The off road boosting was actually discovered by the Japanese gamers back in 1992 / 1993 at the beginning. This is a legitimate strategy and they have been driving this way since then with Official Records. The rest of the World utilised these strategies some years later. Also just to mention, the Match race Mode and GP Mode even at 100cc run a few seconds faster at least than Time Trial even though that is supposed to be 100cc. This is due to the coins mainly (even without using Mushrooms to give additional speed bursts). So if 1'01" was reached you may be slower on Time Trial. Please could you do a test on on Mario Circuit 1 but on Time Trial Mode and let me know what you can reach. If you can record the replay that would be super. It would be great if you join our Time Trial World Rankings too, you would need to get an original snes for that though as the minis and other VC releases are emulator based and have save state functions which we don't allow. Sorry for the long message, awaiting your reply :) Regards, Sami
