Released in April 1992, Contra III features the same shoot and destroy action as the previous two Contra games. Contra III offers harder gameplay than Contra and Super C, and is a favorite among fans. Red Falcon is still trying to take over the world and the solution is to shoot everything that moves. At this past Awesome Games Done Quick, $1,025,000 was raised for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. It only took a week of continuous streaming, 18,000 donors, and many many runners to achieve. A big thanks to everyone responsible for these amazing numbers, what a humbling achievement. For comparison, last year's event raised just under $500,000.

On hard mode, i have only completed using emulators and savestates and this guy makes this looks so easy.

That "NO MAMES!!" is, by far, the best yell i've ever heard in a speed run video hahahahaha
that was brilliant. He really destroyed those bosses quick using the switch weapons method. Double C is ridiculously powerful!
Trying to finally beat this game without cheats and learning so many sweet strats from watching this. In fact, I've done similar with other AGDQ videos like TMNT NES. Honestly watching a skilled realtime playthrough with all the good commentary on what's happening, strategies, tactics, why stuff works, etc. is extremely useful for getting good at tough old games even more than a walkthrough in many cases. These are precious treasures for those of us trying to conquer those hard as nails old games at last.
hip indeed I could always beat Contra 3. It wasn’t that hard. Especially when you can give yourself 7 lives per continue and on the 3rd level if you sit in the corner when the ship drops guys with wings and just shoot straight across you can sit there until you earn as many lives as you need.
That obviously doesn’t help in a speed run but if you’re just trying to beat it. 🤷🏼♂️
But I know where you’re coming from with getting so much info from these videos. I enjoy them too. And learn tricks to beat old bosses that would suck up my lives.

This is still one of my favorite GDQ runs ever, and Mayor K is a huge inspiration for me to eventually speedrun Contra 3.

Loved this game when I was younger. It's also incredibly well made considering the speed run is playing well with strategy and not 100s of glitches to exploit.

The headband was at least 2 inches above his eyes. Therefore, not blindfolded.
Another good speed run by the AGDQ crew. What they should do is a race to see who can compete this game the quickest. Or even better, a 4 man race using Contra Hard Corps on the Mega Drive but with a catch - each player must play to a different ending. Of course some people might not like this idea.

I never knew that the final boss had a helicopter phase in the hard difficulty until now. I always played this game on easy as a kid, and it was still hard.

problem with these types of Good graphics is that your focus gets distracted, But in Contra I and II , graphics is simple hence more focus on playing

If you like Contra 3, you gotta play Contra 4 for the Nintendo DS. Best Contra game I have played. As a bonus, once you beat the game, if you complete eight challenges, you can play the first Contra and Super-C.

I always figured after beating the drill boss, you could just use the screen nuke and beat all the snipers easily. Having C or F won't reach far enough to pick them off.

You actually did it in 15:10 -- according to the "fastest completion" rules set forth by Twin Galaxies, time ends when you lay the final blow on the last boss. (Even though you haven't lost control of your character yet at that point, all you need to do is hang on to the helicopter, sit back and enjoy the ending.)
No biggie, I'm just saying you did it even faster than you thought (not that it's that big a deal -- you totally whipped this game.) :)
