This is probably one of the best examples of commentary during a run - not obnoxious, not too stiff nor trying to (unsuccessfully) be funny. Just pure information while the runner focuses on the game. This needs to be the mold for every run. Don't try to force the humor; if the game/bugs or the runner are silly enough to be funny, then it'll come naturally.
I love how they talk about the game like it's a science project. This took me back to my childhood and the many many hours I spent jumping and dying in this game. Every piece of post-it and note paper in my room had one of those goddamn save codes written on it. XD
Idk how I found these speed run videos, but I can't get enough. All these games I played when I was a kid brings back so many good memories. The guy doing the commentary was amazing, he explained things very well and was very knowledgeable. Another great run and what you guys do for charity is awesome. Keep it up guys!
I know I've said it before but I'm gonna say it again: the guy on the left has a fantastic voice, and I'd be happy to hear him narrate pretty much anything.
First time I saw Pit was in Super Smash Bros Brawl and his design and attacks quickly made him a favorite character of mine - but I had no idea what his game was like. Now I finally know! Great run and great commentary! Hope to see you both in SGDQ2014!
Pit's still known as "The Spam Master" in the Brawl circuits.... Which is a damn shame considering he's "comparable" to Mario with his well-roundedness. I guess it's just because he's too easy and tempting to abuse. Meh...
Fun fact for you: Pit's ability to guide his arrow in SSBB is a shout-out to this NES game. If you watch during the vertically-scrolling staged, pits arrow moves perfectly horizontally on the screen, even if the screen (and enemies) is scrolling upwards. So, you can effectively "guide" the arrow by scrolling the screen up after you shoot, but the effect is limited, just like your limited ability to curve the arrow in Brawl.
The commentator was so good at it that I often forgot that Jorf was the speedrunner. I wish they had him in all speedruns, that commentary was perfect!
I first played the Gameboy version of Kid Icarus. So many car rides were spent as a kid trying to beat it and I never did. Great run and great commentary.
11:04 Okay, that was awesome! Very nice avoidance of the enemy, but DAMN that was hilarious! Excellent video, thank you for showing us & telling us so much about this game that made so many of us kids go crazy beck when we played it.
I love knitting to commentated speedrun. Good job on the run and the upload, I didn't do like the last SGDQ were I tried to stay awake for all the run and ended up with the man flu for my trouble. So to be able to watch it at my leisure really is a blis, keep it up!
16:10 " flying watermelons", I'll never forget the name of these monsters, when I was a kid in the 80's and got the huge black nes guide, Icarus was in there and all the enemies too with their names. These guys shared the same name as my Uncle which I thought was very weird, they are Micks.
I used to play this at age 3 and 4.. could barley make it past stage 1.. do not remember passing stage 2.. once you fall even an inch into a lower part of the screen, you're dead..it wasn't where you just could not see yourself or the camera followed you back down.. great game, great run.
Fav game as a kid! I would just play it over sometimes 2 or 3 times when beating it. you sir did it better than i ever did... i beat it but not this fast. this is amazing
Watching this guy totally rock this game somehow made me feel better about my own experience with this game... they talk about hidden values and Zeus rooms, and they use strats and glitches and stuff... and yet I beat this when I was a kid, I didn't know about any of that stuff. I don't remember anything about which rooms to go in, which things to choose in said rooms, etc., but I was able to do it. It may not have been fast, but I did it.
+TheGoldCrow What if Nintendo did that as a reference? I'm not going to lie, that would be the best possible thing to happen. Given Pit's fourth-wall breaking dialog, though, I feel like he would have had some sort of line about that if that were the case...
Such a weird difficulty curve; when i played this on the VC i had a really hard time in the beginning - after that it got so easy that i can't even remember the level layouts anymore
Kid Icarus Uprising, being the first game with a 26-year gap between original and sequel, takes the opportunity to tell 99% of its audience what the first was like, either because they never played it or don't remember. It's nice to see what it was actually like, rather than what they said it was like. Which, honestly, is fairly accurate. I just wish the game (Uprising) wasn't accompanied by humor so bad, even the game knows it's bad. (Pit: [Bad humor], several deities: "...")
He's wearing glasses. It's the light reflecting off them. His eyes look like there popping out, some times he looks like he got comic book eyes. Like M bison from street fighter.
Who is the guy giving the commentary? He was fantastic! Would love to see him on more videos in the future, also does he have a youtube channel? Thank you in advance.
awesome commentary! my mom used to beat this game n found that if u stick right below medusas eye u can spam the crap out of arrows into it n not take hits timeing the "bobs" of pit correctly.... great watch tho! brought me back to the good ol days of gaming!!!
Pit's one of my favorite characters in Super Smash Bros. Brawl because of his Forward + B attack where he spins his bow. I've locked down many people in a corner with this and they couldn't get out lol. I really like the arrows too and his recovery ability is one of the best and so easy to use.
This guy is like the al michaels of video game commentators. Please get him a job as a commentator on pro level competitions stat. Wonder if he has an agent yet?

Amazing commentary. Get this guy on everything :)
The play by play was the best I've ever seen. I love when he commentates. Plus this game gave me nightmares as a kid. Well done.
This commentary is REALLY good!!!!
I enjoyed it alot :D
the Peter Dinklage of the speedrunning community.
I love how they talk about the game like it's a science project.
This took me back to my childhood and the many many hours I spent jumping and dying in this game. Every piece of post-it and note paper in my room had one of those goddamn save codes written on it. XD
lacountess And all the technical terminology lol! Screen wrapping, buffering, etc. xD
Idk how I found these speed run videos, but I can't get enough. All these games I played when I was a kid brings back so many good memories. The guy doing the commentary was amazing, he explained things very well and was very knowledgeable. Another great run and what you guys do for charity is awesome. Keep it up guys!
I loved the commentary; it was very informative. This was a really good speed run too. :D
I know I've said it before but I'm gonna say it again: the guy on the left has a fantastic voice, and I'd be happy to hear him narrate pretty much anything.
I was so rapt and impressed by the high quality commentary that I almost didn't notice Dusty Bottoms hanging out on the right over there.
And the warg sitting next to Dusty. He has no pupils.
+jesusnthedaisychain wrestling Jesus is there too. Freaking celebrity audience
I call him wrestling Jesus but I believe he's known as faith no more guy
Never knew this game was so deep.
I never got past the first stage. I really need to play it again!
Rally you were a gifted child then.
The first stage was hard enough.
I love the commentary in this, great speed run!
Oh hey it's my birthday, neat. One of the best runs I've seen so far. So informative, the guy on the left is so fun to listen to.
First time I saw Pit was in Super Smash Bros Brawl and his design and attacks quickly made him a favorite character of mine - but I had no idea what his game was like. Now I finally know!

there is another wonderful game with pit its called Kid Icarus:Uprising for the 3DS.Check it out^^
dcfan1001 That game is BADASS!
i do like your game taste sir :D
Fun fact for you: Pit's ability to guide his arrow in SSBB is a shout-out to this NES game. The commentator was so good at it that I often forgot that Jorf was the speedrunner. I wish they had him in all speedruns, that commentary was perfect!
Loved the commentary with this run :)
The commenter is such a natural speaker. It makes the run that much more enjoyable.
Commentary is amazing.
That guy was like a living, breathing Nintendo Power...... Nice job both you guys!! (Those eggplants bring back childhood nightmares)
Blechy rocks, loved the commentary and insight!
I first played the Gameboy version of Kid Icarus. So many car rides were spent as a kid trying to beat it and I never did.
Great run and great commentary.
These runs never get old I have very fond memories of never being able to beat this game as a kid lol. Great Commentary too.
I could never beat 2-4 in this game. So mindblowing to hear that new music! And of course the stellar performance of the runner.
Can't remember how many times i beat this game back in the day, must've bern around 50 times or something. One of my favorite NES games of all time.
Loved the commentary. It was excellent and provided great insights. Loved the level of detail and knowledge. It was a lot of fun to watch. Great job.
Man that commentary is freaking solid!
good job :)
Great commentary by bonygrunt. First time watching a speedrun of Kid Icarus. Well played.
awesome commentary!!! great to see someone else discuss the game while the speed run is being performed
It's been said many times already, but the commenter is fantastic!
It may have been said many times, but it deserves to be said again. I agree completely.
11:04 Okay, that was awesome! Very nice avoidance of the enemy, but DAMN that was hilarious! Excellent video, thank you for showing us & telling us so much about this game that made so many of us kids go crazy beck when we played it.
Blechy's commenatry is awesome as usual

*sees a tails plushie sitting next to the person*
*2014 horde of "Tails doll real confirmed" videos flashbacks*
Commentary was great, I had no idea that platform positions are affected by enemy kills!
16:10 " flying watermelons", I'll never forget the name of these monsters, when I was a kid in the 80's and got the huge black nes guide, Icarus was in there and all the enemies too with their names. These guys shared the same name as my Uncle which I thought was very weird, they are Micks.
Now I finally got to see how the ending looks like! After all of these years and I finally get to see "Thank you, Pit"
This ending sucks compared to the good one where you get some action from petulina
Nice run. Also, appreciate the commentary as I'm playing this for the first time and this cleared some stuff up!
The commentary on this was awesome, nice job
Agreed, the commentary is AWESOME in this run.
Blechy owns.
Lovely Commentary. I am loving the great content I am seeing. Subscribed!
Is that Mclovin to the right? Cool
...
Whoa it looks just like him
Mo_ Musashi_28 lmfao
yea and that's michael bolton speedrunning the game.
@@Taterzz I hear he got sent off to Federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison.
perfect timing AGDQ! its my uncle's B-Day and he used to play kid icarus all the time (at least that's what he told me) :D
I used to play this at age 3 and 4.. could barley make it past stage 1.. do not remember passing stage 2.. once you fall even an inch into a lower part of the screen, you're dead..it wasn't where you just could not see yourself or the camera followed you back down.. great game, great run.
Really nice speed run, and very well commentated as other replies have mentioned.
I always loved that: "THANKS, PITT! Here's a stupid hat for your troubles. Later." LOL!
Ahhhh Kid Icarus. Such a great game! The game is brutal the first two/three stages, but once you get into the first temple, it's not bad.
Fav game as a kid! I would just play it over sometimes 2 or 3 times when beating it.
you sir did it better than i ever did... i beat it but not this fast. this is amazing

Willow is very knowledgeable.
blechy's commentary is legendary
This game is Metroid + Valentines day
Nice run dude, great commentary as well, very informative.
the lannisters send their regards!
Kid Icarus uprising in the marathon we need
Normal speed runs are so much more enjoyable to watch than TAS.
Finally after 30 years I have some closure. I could never get past the eggplant wizard level.
I'm going to be the tenth person to mention how good the commentary is. =)
The Pit clone glitch after beating Pandora is kind of hilarious after playing Kid Icarus Uprising considering what happens with Pandora in that game.
+TheGoldCrow What if Nintendo did that as a reference? I'm not going to lie, that would be the best possible thing to happen. Given Pit's fourth-wall breaking dialog, though, I feel like he would have had some sort of line about that if that were the case...
Finally you answer my question why there is a blank room at the beginning of the game thank you it only took 35 years
great run, especially awesome commentary
You can get all kinds of items in this game and even rescue people to fight along side you!
Ah, NICE! it's the dwarf again ^^
stop racism
He is a VERY good commentator, I hope to see him more often!
Great narration!
Such a weird difficulty curve; when i played this on the VC i had a really hard time in the beginning - after that it got so easy that i can't even remember the level layouts anymore
10 minutes into the video and I just noticed the Guy on the Left (facing the TV) is dressed in Mariachi Clothing.
Kid Icarus Uprising, being the first game with a 26-year gap between original and sequel, takes the opportunity to tell 99% of its audience what the first was like, either because they never played it or don't remember. Jorf looks identical to hiccup from how to train your Dragon.
ICARUS FIGHTS MEDUSA ANGELS
My favorite nes game!
The black guy's eyes O_O
LOL!!!!
He's wearing glasses. It's the light reflecting off them. His eyes look like there popping out, some times he looks like he got comic book eyes. Like M bison from street fighter.
i always thought the half hearts were porkchops
brother you have found your calling.
DYK: This game was released the same week the original Metroid was.
Jorf, sexiest runner at AGDQ!
Who is the guy giving the commentary? He was fantastic! Would love to see him on more videos in the future, also does he have a youtube channel? Thank you in advance.
Blechy.
oh man, this game is so hard... i can never get past the 1st vertical section
awesome commentary! my mom used to beat this game n found that if u stick right below medusas eye u can spam the crap out of arrows into it n not take hits timeing the "bobs" of pit correctly.... great watch tho! brought me back to the good ol days of gaming!!!
I have this on my 3DS and I can't beat it.
NES hard is a good definition here. I have an NES emulator, been playing Kid Icarus for 3 months and I'm STILL on level 1-3 xD
Great speed run 😏
The black guy on the right looks like a zombie from a Romero Movie :)
Pandora was referred to as a "he" during her boss fight XD
Who is the guy exlaining the game on the runner's right? He is very well spoken and I was wondering if he has a twitch channel
TIKI500 2 years late but it's Blechy
Based Blechy.
blueglass is using a booster chair...still can barely see over couch.
RIP Blechy :(
In the beginning of this vid . There is a tails doll in the beginning.
Pit's one of my favorite characters in Super Smash Bros. Brawl because of his Forward + B attack where he spins his bow. I've locked down many people in a corner with this and they couldn't get out lol. I really like the arrows too and his recovery ability is one of the best and so easy to use.
It took me 20 minutes to see the Amigo in the background.
Took me several of these videos to realize that the guy on the couch is McLovin.
This guy is like the al michaels of video game commentators. Please get him a job as a commentator on pro level competitions stat. Wonder if he has an agent yet?
11:05 epic moment!
I don't think I've even made it past world 2-1... :(
2:41 RUN START
At 1:46 game time, can you not jump and duck onto the ice instead of wrapping around?
Speed running next to Mclovin 👍🏻
Can we get a list of other agdq runs that Blechy is on the couch or otherwise a part of? I just wanna watch them all
Where the heck is Blechy's twitch/youtube info?
Certainly an eclectic crowd.
here Bilbo and McLovin (Superbad movie)
SSSSSHHHHHH! were not supposed to talk about Metroid! you should know that!!!!
All I said was Koyomatos look like little Metriods-
Kid Kirby la la la la! i can't hear you!
why is there a guy in a sombrero?
