The fact that each of these girls ran a personal best, what more can we ask? Well done to each of these women, you did yourselves and your family's proud. And more importantly each of you did our country proud. Well done. And thank you.
Was walking around central Dublin just before the race and everyone was hopping into bars and pubs to watch.. jammed.. amazing run and it’s absolutely class that they put on such a close call so they are in the mix
Even the American track announcers (NBC) were excited and cheering on the Irish team when they were in second place at one time and then, when coming down the last 100m, competing for a medal!
They did really well. They should all take great pride in what they've done. To be so close to finishing 2nd, let alone 3rd is a remarkable achievement for such a small nation.
I'm American and a fan of Adeleke. After the USA, I was cheering for Ireland. I was heartbroken especially for Mawdsley that they didn't medal. I saw her run at the Worlds Relays in the Bahamas and she was an absolute beast on that final leg. I hope their performance in Paris inspires them going forward.
From the US, congratulations! I imagine there is frustration for not medaling; but know that you made your country proud and I am sure you are inspiring the next generation to follow in your footsteps.
I certainly wouldn't like to be the person on the last leg of a relay race on the home stretch with Femke Bol on my back. They attacked that race with all they had, unfortunately no medal, but that's competitive athletics
Canadian here - you ladies ran an awesome race. I am really looking forward to seeing you all continue and wouldn't it be cool to see the same team competing in LA?
I was so rooting for you to medal. It was an exciting race and would have been the Cinderella story of the games. (I am from the US, and of course had our team going for Gold).
Rashidat scares me ( in a good way). If i were her opponent i would be worried about what she can continue to do in the future with all that talent and potential 🔥
Congrats, ladies! You made it to the finals at the biggest athletic event on Earth. You should all be incredibly proud of that achievement and this American girl is wishing you continued success💪
American here. I was pulling for Ireland so hard after the Euros and my best bud here is Irish(like Irish Irish, not American "Irish", lol). I thought Mawdsley could get with Femke Bol but maybe i got carried away, Bol is a beast the last 200m, and i wasn't expecting GB to be there. But i'm happy to see the women made the 4x4 final for the first time and competed hard. Can't wait to see them in 2028!
Well done girls you were one of the highlights of the Olympics for me. Something special about team events and even more special when its an Athletics team event. You have inspired the country.
What has put Ireland on the map is the brilliance of our gold medal winners esp Donovan / McCarthy/ Harrington and doing it at two or three Olympics ....outstanding indeed.
Excellent performance ladies! So, so proud of each of you and collectively and the members of Team Ireland 🇮🇪 Thank you for great excitement and memories. Roll on LA2028! Ye be brilliant again.
They are giving bronze medals for 4th now, or the RUclips title is clickbait? I would've still listened if it said "4th place" instead of "bronze medal."
Look at the size of the US and UK. The access to facilities, population, etc. 4th is respectable. Yes a medal would have been nice, but being olympian is one thing, olympic finalists, another, and coming within striking distance of silver is even better.
She literally is part of the team and knew she would step aside for final….and would have got a medal like the rest if we managed to medal. It would have been a nice touch to include her in interview though
These women are starting to realize exactly how good they actually are. All ran under 51. Mawdsley and Adeleke are capable of running low 49 right now, should be sub 49 by worlds. There are 8 billion people in the world, this is the 4th fastest group on earth. They are young, except for Phil, but Phil ran in the 50s, so that is excellent running. The world really slept on this group. I am shocked they didn't make the finals in the mixed relay, but Sophie was not at her best, and one of the men ran a 6th place time, which killed them. They were right on the bubble. Becker and Mawdsley both didn't perform as well as they'd hoped in the 400m individually, only Adeleke made the final. The women shrugged that off, decided to refocus on the relay, and they showed up. Becker's start was one of the fastest legs in the final, which is difficult to do because she was up against a fast 1st leg. She ran in the low 50s. Phenomenal start. Adeleke ran great. Healy was not one of the fastest in her leg, but she was up against a very fast group, and she still stayed in the 50s. Mawdsley hung in there right up to the line, her best ever. Ireland's fasfest race ever. That was the 4th fastest team in the damned world. They showed up and represented, and I am American but proud of them. I didn't sleep on this group. These women have been steadily getting faster over the past 2 years. At their best, they are capable of medaling in any world class relay because of their women. The men are not stellar, they are okay. That's only because of the silver-haired hero, but the other men are mediocre, need to step it up. Get those t-levels up bruh! Anyway, these women are absolutely elite as a group. For a small island full of tatos and sheep and pubs, that is no small task. It is really phenomenal. They are sooooo good. They were so good that the Brits and Dutch had to both also run national records to beat these 4 women. Seriously. They got 4th only because the Dutch and Brits were AlSO their best ever. All of the top teams ran their best ever. The WR was an incredible run by a team on a lot of steroids, so we still haven't reached it with our sloppy exchanges. Fastest final overall ever!! But Ireland, great showing out there. I am thinking about becoming Irish, chase down some of them relay women! Hollaaa 💚🫵🫶😅
We shld have got that bronze adeleke put us in a great position in the second leg handing over the batting to phil we wer ahead of all the other teams in second behind USA Adeleke gave phil like a 10 meter lead the last changeover to sharlene the other athletes wer ahead of her unfortunately for her Phil was the weakest link . How we didnt get a bronze what an opportunity we let slip . Closest we will probably ever get to a sprint medal
Irish women are only starting to realize their potential. They've done incredible things despite rampant misogyny, being undervalued and overlooked. I look forward to the day when they don't have to fight tooth and nail for everything and get the respect and resources they deserve. These women are a credit to their country. First time finalists, narrowly missing a medal. Absolutely fantastic achievement. Could not be a prouder Irishman.
The fact that each of these girls ran a personal best, what more can we ask? Well done to each of these women, you did yourselves and your family's proud. And more importantly each of you did our country proud. Well done.
