I think Mike is one of the most original sounding guitarists around. I have a masters of music performance and I am still amazed by his choice of voicings. I love his playing. And believe it or not though he doesn't solo often he is one hell of a shredder.
Absolutely, his solos are tasty, diverse, jazzy and always compliment the song.
His work with avicii on “wake me up” is simply my favourite. Simple chords but such a good sounding piece. I love musicians who use simple chords and make it sound amazing
I have so much respect for Mike and Incubus. They are one of the best groups of musicians of all time.
i'm gay if it matters
They're not good without Dirk. Sorta how RHCP are shit without Froosh.
That "Nowhere Fast" guitar line is simply brilliant
I could listen to Mike talk and play all day... All hail King Einziger.
This dude is soo underrated he is a genius just like Johnny Greenwood. So skillful and knowledgeable
Cash
its amazing. when i first started playing guitar I loved this guy. Then as time went on and I started moving away from his playing. Then, when i got better and wanted to find unique guitar players to learn off of, I came back to Mike. He's really truly amazing. Every part he writes is just incredible. My biggest influence right now
Exactly where I'm at man. 20 years later after learning lots of theory and genres I'm back to playing Incubus songs. Full circle. It's "Science".
Not many rock guitarists are this kind of intricately creative. He brings his unique blend to the creation of a song. Different level than most
this guy right here is my guitar hero since 1998...his creativity is simply amazing
Amazing guitarist in every way. Rhythm, lead, pop, Funk, metal, jazz, shoe gaze. "I want to be like Mike". My favourite pedal player for sure.
These guitar.com videos were great. There’s a whole bunch of them. I remember when these first started making their way around the Internet. The low quality of the video, graphically speaking, the indispensable amount of information, the coolness.
Oh yeah. And dial up Internet. Ahh the good old days.
I recommend watching Zakk Wylde’s video, too
I remember Stephen from Deftones
I remember this video. Learned open chords from it
This is a very creative genius...he remember me The creativity of John frusciante
Very underrated. That’s a shame. He’s a genius
Been coming back to this video since 2009!
I watched this in high school before youtube
Nice
His guitar licks are always so unique and refreshing.
This was the ultimate video that inspired me growing up. Was so cool to experience as a 16 year old. Mike has such a unique way of expressing all things music. Cool because he can wail, be weird, and write smooth emotional music all at once. Guys just got a highly creative mindset. Guy is one of the most underrated guitarist ever.
I love how many times he says "you know" and I'm like "No I don't know, cause I'm not as good as you Mike" awesome guy.
I'm so glad I found this comment 8 years later thank you for making my day lmao
Stellar and Echo. This man is a genius. ❤️
Mike is one of the most innovative and underrated guitar players of this generation. His guitar lines and clever use of effects should be studied.
mike einziger has prolly been the biggest influence on me for my own music and he made appreciate diversity and understanding chords and using different voicings. love his chilled nature. you can totally tell he hates cameras and interviews. amazing guy and guitarist
I heart Mike! He is definitely one of the best players around and the one I get the most inspiration from now that I am learning guitar...
One of my favorite guitar players. Incubus is one of my favorite bands awesome live!
hell yeah! this aint an interview this is a lesson from the maestro himself, from the source! its gold
I learned so much from this video, holy shit
the acoustic version chord sequence for the verse is sublime. so many chords and voicings that sound amazing together. pardon me acoustic version is one of those songs that when you strip the song down, you understand and appreciate the song more :)
Oh man. Loved this!
that's awesome that he does all these tutorial videos, hes definitely helped me and influenced me a lot.
for me he's one of the most creative guitarist. I like his sound. He finds very cool chords progessions. Between jazz and rock. as jrenner325 said, he should be studied
Very Authentic! Thank you for this share!
favorite guitarist, favorite band !!!
You don't have to shred to be a good guitar player. Technique, Versatility, and Creativity is what makes him good. I also agree with tkm2210 he does shred, Its also hard to continue doing when you have severe Carpal Tunnel.
Having a jazz fusion background doesn’t hurt
what a valuable post!
Loved this. Love Incubus!
I remember being like 12-13 and watching this on RealPlayer, like straight up Windows 95 status, trying to freaking figure out Stellar.
Christ I'm getting old
Same here bro!!
hahaha same!
What a time to be alive ya know. I did the exact same. The internet was such a new exciting world and this video takes me back to that time when i thought stellar was just the absolute coolest vibe I ever heard.
Drinking game, every time he says "you know", you take a shot you know?
lol
RockandMetal645I think I'd die before the 3 minute mark
RockandMetal645 Did this and just got out of the hospital. They said I had alcohol poisoning.
wow that's one of the most amazing videos ive ever seen. einziger is awesome.
amazing guitarist very talented and very talented band incubus forever
This is the best Guitar Lesson on RUclips.
I'm thinking back to the first presentation I had to make in front of a huge comp class. Loose definition of "selling something" so guitar as a hobby was accepted. Lot of free resources online from finding instruments to instruction - I linked to this clip of Mike which was well-received so it holds a place in my heart.
Exactly my way... I let myself lead only be what fills me with enthusiasm and intensive feelings... all I need is genre impacting music and my ears...
It still amazes me the harmony Mike emulates with those chords.
Muammar El Khatib u want some fuck
this guy is amazing, very cool, this is how u can understand that it´s not that important how fast u can go on the guitar is how creative u r with it.
Jeezus this dude is talented 💯💯💯
Man Mike rocks. Those are some Sweet melodies. His guitar playing goes so well with Brandon's voice that gives them chemistry.
this blew me away.
im a classic rock junkie, but incubus gets tons of airtime outta my ipod. this dude gets sounds outta his guitar that are just incredible. great guitarist, and fn awesome band.
so many memories for steller. It got me laid.
Thanks for the upload. Very good guitarist.
Love this, biggest influence on my playing right here.
Mike is amazing! I hope someday to be able to play like him :P
Priceless
so beautiful
.....I love you Mike!
Oh my god i love him and Brandon
Anyone can shred like anyone can drive fast on a straight road! Mike is a superb musician and his talent with a guitar, to me, makes him one of the most under rated modern guitar genius'!
For me he is one of those few guitarists who a like the re-incarnation of "skill"... such a talented, skillful guitarist who really knows how to make unique, great music...
to name others like this:
the guitarist of blind melon (OMG !!! GOTTA KNOW THEIR STUFF !!!)
Omar Rodriguez Lopez (adti, tmv)
Jerry Cantrell (aic)
Stefan Koglek (colour haze)
doesnt stefan play bass
How about Marcus Curiel of P.O.D??
Zappa fan!!!! Now I know why I like Incubus so much.
Not only my favorite guitarist but the reason I
the master of modern guitar playing...he's 1 of my heroes..my world would be empty without incubus in it..
loving the smooth jazz =]
The most underrated guitarist out there.
yeah man i reckon he rocks love that guitar
FYI, this dude dropped outta high school to play music... I'd say it worked out well. He now has a degree in music from Harvard.. Eat it America lol.. .Great USA story
He didn’t drop out he went to Harvard lol
Uh
Yeah he go to Harvard but as i know he went there to learn evolutionary of science
Hey be nice to him. I love this man.
He's got to be the coolest nerd ever. It's pretty sweet that he's going from this to Harvard Music school. I'm excited to hear what Incubus will come up with once the boys come back together.
love this guy \m/
he is so blazed........long live 420
he has unique talent composing notes.
shhhhh. i'm in class with Mr. Einziger
mikes my hero...
hey! y0u r0ck dude! you're one of my guitar Idol! one of the cleanest guitar player! you really play the notes and chords really clean and swift!!
its ALL practice. it opens "creativity" and such. keep an open mind, and play non stop.
I think he was talking about chord inversions in the voicing question.
Mikey with dreads, you gotta love it!
Incubus... Make Yourself is my favourite Album of all. I play in a Coverband and we took "love hurts" into out Repertoire... we love Incubus... the Drummer and I grew up with this stuff! The Bassman, the Drummer and I are in our 40s now.. and we love the 90s stuff :)
Love hurts is one of my favourites too!
@@seqta5705 Well... it's a song that goes under your skin and touches the soul somehow. Same goes for "the warmth"
@@Pokerface-tr1ds the warmth and anti gravity love song, love these guys
@@metalsadman Agreed! Recently we took Stone Sour's "through glass" into our repertoire. Same goes for Candlebox's "far behind" and Bify Clyro's "many of horror"
@@Pokerface-tr1ds love the other two haven't heard of bify clyro tho.
stellar
insanity
this guy rocks
guitar hero! mike is the best!
He reminds me so much of Dewey from malcom in the middle
This guy has so much talent its unreal, unnatural! Hope hes getting the respect he deserves in Incubus and hes well know to all guitar players, being a bass playei dont really hear his name crop up or see him in guitar mags
One of the greatest bands in recorded history. Especially for their ability to evolve. Going from Funk metal (Fungus Amongus) to Melodic blues (If not now, when?) Fucking. Musical. GODS!!
Absolutely.
I really wanna learn that "Smoth jazz" thing he does at the beginning :D
humble genius
Talent
everytime he hit the chorus for his songs i felt like moshing in the middle of the computer lab at school
HE is FREAKING AMAZING at guitar and Hes my couzin July 24 they comin to STL and i gonna go back stage and see em =)
How was it?
lets just say that incubus DOES NOT hold him back. He writes incredible parts. I wold say he definately gets the respect he deserves. Incubus is one of the best selling rock bands around.
i love mike! hes so cute! i wish i could play as good as him! he rocks at guitar! :)
Looks awesome when he plays stellar.
thats doctrine dood!!! ppl can argue, but on the inside, they know its soooo true! mike einziger ROCKSSSSSSSSSS
plus that guitar has such good natural resonance
Seems like a cool guy
mike einziger is one of my favorite guitarists, really cool player. i wish newer incubus was heavier though i must admit, science until a crow left of the murder were all brilliant incubus albums!
mike's the best
I miss you
my lord mike

idol!
A real guitar effect superhero!!!!
