- Awesome Go-Around for this British Airways A380 coming in to Vancouver. Looks like she may have flared a little too early, and ended up floating before going around. What an impressive BEAST!! This is a definite must watch!! Second attempt was successful :)

Thanks!! :)
Couldn't afford to land. Prices went up during final approach into Vancouver.
+Jett Rink They still charge for the approach...
+Duskyness123 ^^^ thanks for the excellent input Buzz Killington
It would have cost a huge amount in extra fuel and toilet paper.
👌
Jett Rink 😂
When to go around : go around when you hear 50...40...30...20...10...10...10...10...10...10...
+Joulewrecker LOL!!!
Hahahahaha
go around when the pilots are retarded xd
Literally been laughing at this for 10 minutes loooooooool
only on Airbus'
Nice catch! I was sitting on that plane coming in from LHR (over the wings, lower section); Never experienced a go-around before, let alone on as big a plane. people (including flight attendants) were pretty surprised - but everyone was very calm. Co-pilot explained the maneuver and that we'd go around again, landing 10 minutes later with no problems. He didn't actually mention the reason for the aborted landing, just that the last time he did it for real (not in a simulator), was 7 years ago. Interesting to see how close to the ground we were!
+Carsten Kolve Thanks!! WOW, that's awesome!! How was the go around??! Looked pretty awesome from down there!! Wonder if anyone onboard got that on camera. So close!! :) Thanks for watching!
+AvgeekYVR When sitting in the exit row of the 380 you unfortunately don't have a good view, as there is only a small window in the door through which you can't see the ground when seated. So I wasn't really aware of how close we were to the ground. - Just a new experience feeling the engines accelerate when you expect to slow down :-)
No window but lots of legroom! Just sat there for 17 hours DFW to SYD.
I'm just wondering why? (Sifted through some, but not near all, responses and didn't see much.) Wonder if something wasn't configured properly, or maybe the pilot just didn't "feel right." Pilots? Help me out, please. If everything looks good on the screens and outside; everything's in place but you just have this little nagging feeling, do you abort? Or do you just trust your instruments and do what you've done hundreds or thousands or more times before, nagging feeling be damned?
gomphrena in terms of why, its was because he was 'floating' too far down the runway - if he didn't go around, he might not have stopped in time. In terms of the nagging feeling, it's a tough one. I guess pilots are always encouraged to go around if you feel as if something's wrong, but most of the time you trust your instruments just as much as you trust yourself.
Looks like they were going to land too deep due to excess speed over the threshold. Pilots made a damn fine and difficult at that stage decision. Great job by them and great job capturing a rare A380 Go around. BA can be proud of this one 👍👍👍
Don't think they had excess speed, looks like they got caught in ground effect and it caused them to float.
That landing was the smoothest A380 touch down I have seen and I have seen a lot. Many pilot just ram the gear onto the runway to give themself lot's of runway to stop. The first attempt was going to be a smooth one also and the plane would not come down so the right decision was made to go around. Great pilot caring for a smooth landing and who can blame them for wanting to fly over a beautiful city one more time :-)
I remember that sound, when we landed in Manila, Philippines. The runways is indeed short there, and may be the case here. You never forget that sound
The BA colours look so good on the 380
" Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking....remember how we said we were landing on time..."
Kids on board: Again, again ! ;-)
LOL
bugger the kids i wish i was on there going again again again
I have only just seen the video, I was on that flight and the aircrew took it as something they do every day, they were very calm, but never explained why.
OH NICE!! That must have been such a treat!! What was it like??
@@avgeekyvr - A treat
The captain doesn't land until he has finished his cup of earl grey tea!
+Tim Gorman LOL!!
Awesome video mate!
Thanks very much!
+Tim Gorman No thank you!! No point to film these if there is no audience!! SO thank you very much!! Happy you enjoyed it!! Lots more to come!
An ignorant american comment i am guessing.
Ryan Essex I am a Kiwi.
This video really shows the scale of this beast. Great capture!
+Steven Walker That was my first impression!! WOW this thing is MASSIVE!!
if u look at the side of the screen between 0:13 and 0:14, u can see the bird accelerating, gotta watch carefully, but the push back looks AMAZING
@AvGeekYVR...if I had to guess, he had one hand on the stick, the other on the throttles. Every pilot I know hand flies below 500 ft, AT off, exception is a CAT IIIb approach in auto land.
Its a matter of pride to be able to pull off that kind of low approach that precise then apply the power and pull gently on the stick to pitch up. Masterful flying. Characteristically British.
Autothrust off at British Airways? Maybe on the 747, still forbidden on the Airbus fleet
Awesome! Pilot wants overtime...
That final thrust induction at 00:24 have sent the plane into Ground Effect. Second attempt was managed much better
What a great landing that Captain showed us!
Nicely done!! I see that you shot this from what I call "Runway Beach." I love that spot and I can't wait to get myself some shots of the A380 real soon!!
+Justin Jadunath Has come over downtown, where I see it, coming out of the north, only a few times, and clouds on some days just too low, but did some great shots turning over English Bay, then over the city. Last nite was nice too and, Speedbird ATC it was followed by a China Ailines 744, also nice.
Wow! That was a really awesome catch! Pretty rare to see an A380 go around! Liked :)
Jet Blast Aviation o
Very nice shot A380-841 nice plane
+Linda Sunshine Thank you for watching!! :) Very beautiful bird, isn't it??
that was stunning
Wonderful, so dramatic!
Absolutely beautiful and so rare to see this. I'm glad this beast is back at YVR for another summer round.
Love the A380 Just got back from London last night! Flew Premium Economy to London and was upgraded to
Business Class on our return home - It's a beautiful plane and BA one of the best airlines that we have flown with.
Quite excited that it's doing a daily run from LHR to YVR
+Kristopher De Caigny Nice!!! Business is definitley a great treat on a long haul!! Which day did you arrive back into YVR? I may have caught the landing :P Thanks for watching!!
+AvgeekYVR We landed on May 21
+Kristopher De Caigny Awesome!! I definitely caught that landing!! Will post a video for you shortly! :)
+AvgeekYVR Sweet!!
Spectacular airshow
float... float.. float if in doubt Go - Around. Good decisions those pilots at the controls. and good capture AvgeekYVR - RTWTravel
+Macro VIGILANCE Thanks!
First Officer played his audio prank... "PULL UP PULL UP!" Always the joker.
It's clean and beautiful smells good
I took this plane last year to go to the UK. It was the best flight ever. Once you take this plane you won't want to fly on any other plane.
Cool capture. You never know what will be captured when besides the runway. Always a surprise
+Valk Aviation Exactly!! Right place at the right time!! Thanks for watching! :)
I never know when to go around, I do not even know if I am coming or going? that's why I love LSD. Excellent video, thanks fro sharing with Mankind,
a dream video! I watched it several times. very good job!
Amazing catch! Well done. You wouldn't see too many of those. You were in the right place, at the right time!
+Kate fromaust Thanks!! Definitley right place at the right time! Just wished I could have kept a steadier hand :P
Really nice clean burn engines.
What a plane and livery excellent video
0:40 Captain (to himself): Dammit, wrong airport!
Jokes apart, it is a magnificent video mate. I wanted a flyby on the day of its inaugural but now I know what it looks like. Thanks for sharing.
+Med Jet HAHA!! Thanks for watching and commenting!! :)
What a great catch! Like watching a little Cessna doing circuits and bumps... Well, sort of. ;-)
Nice, it seems that the pilots did the exact right thing to go around
Nice Video mate, lucky to see that Go-Around especially to that size of an aircraft.
+HaaHaa HeeHee-Aviation Fan. Almost couldn't believe what I was seeing!! Was truly spectacular!!
That plane could use a wash.
Typical Brit mate......soap dodgers.
+AUmarcus Soap Dodgers? Did you hear that in the 3 mile queue at the Moscow McDonalds ...sorry but we can afford soap and A380's ! being part manufactures and share holders in them...lol..
Chalky White
Lol. My country has the best micky d's on the planet.....and its national airline was flying a380's for years before BA even thought about it.....we wash ours too.
I work for BA at Heathrow and they don't have the proper facilities to clean A380's... They actually get Emirates to do it for them after certain flights
SS D ha ha ha, get Emirates to do the cleaning, brilliant............. I wonder who does there servicing on the A380's it would bed interesting to know.
Stunning capture! May I feature this go around in one of my next videos? Of course with a link to your original videos. Cheers!
Thats a very talented low pass
Great light and a real rare catch.
Thanks!! While I was filming, I was like... wait.. whats going on... WAAAA!! lol
What an amazing video mate! What a beautiful catch!
+jelmerpilotHD Thank you! :)
That's funny...you could tell, they floated the plane. They didn't pull the power out in time. You can tell because you can see the nose drop slightly, as if their first intention was to lower the nose. I guess by the time they realized what they did, they were to far down the runway and just killed the landing attempt. Right call.
RIP earphones! Awesome video man, liked and subbed :)
This is Truly Amazing!!. Thank You AVGeek
+Shiraz Shiraz Thank you for watching. Very happy you enjoyed watching!! :)
Holy cow! You've earned yourself a new subscriber.
+dude8472productions Thank you so much for watching and subscribing :) Glad you enjoyed the video!!
If you know YVR it jus floated, happened to me as far back as 1979 in a CP Air DC 8, an Air Canada 767 a year later. As for the dirt, its about right for IAG, seems BA is downgrading to have a uniform product across the group. A recent Iberia Express Business Class Flight comes to mind.
+Bespoke Vacation Group They definitely do have a few dirty birds!! Thanks for watching!
My two cents: That did not look like an early flair. I had to watch and listen about four times...listening for changes in the pitch of the engine whine and I am pretty sure I heard a slight power up in the flair. It is certainly possible that he could have been caught in ground effect, but the technique for landing an Airbus (any Airbus for that matter) is flair to about 5 degrees at 30 feet as you pull off the power and the mains will settle onto the runway and you do not derotate until weight is on wheels..otherwise the landing is anything but kind to your back.
Any kind of power applied will cause the airplane to not sink and the slight nose down applied kept the airplane at a very precise distance above the runway. If ground effect and wind were causing this, I think we'd see more pronounced pitch oscillations to work the mains onto the runway or, in the alternative, an immediate application of TOGA power to get out of a possible runway overrun...the A380 typically takes a good deal of runway to get stopped as it doesn't apply all its reversers to slow itself down.
I could be wrong, but it took a lot of watching and listening to come to this conclusion...I've never seen an A380 float like that...A330...yes...but an A380 is a beast and the second you pull off the power, it will sink like the big brick (with wings) that it is...
It was crazy! I wasn't sure what I was seeing through the view finder while I was filming.. I was like.. wait.. its not on the grou.... wow.. wooow... WOOOOOOW!!!!
I wonder if those final engine adjustments were pilot induced, or if the auto-throttle was in control.
Thank you for you comment, and thanks for watching!
Andrew
David,Thanks for the explanation
😂 brick with wings! Lol
Wow, that's pretty rare, especially an A380 at YVR, good stuff!! 08L must have been a little too short for a super landing long
It isn’t even 10,000 feet long, right at 3,000 meters, so probably.
Wonderfull, are great pilots...
Captain took over.
I can hear the claps and loud yayys from inside the plane
every day I'm hovering! ♪ ♫
Great catch! Perfect camera quality, no objects in the way, clear shot. Subscribed.
+Tyler Lawrence Thank you for watching and subscribing!! :)
WOW!!
Great catch and nice work framing & editing the video (too many people do it wrong). Thanks for sharing!
+Jerry S Thank you for watching and commenting!! Happy you enjoyed it! :) Very lucky catch indeed!!
Nice video. Great quality sound too!
+Stephen Demeter Thanks!
Awesome go-around
Wow! koodos to the pilot! Well Done! Wish the North Shore Mountains came in clearer!
Actually, those mountains are on Vancouver Island. The approach view from 8L and being on the aircrafts left side has the camera pointing out over Georgia Strait towards the Gulf and Vancouver Islands. The North Shore Mountains certainly are beautiful though!
Very nice catch. At the right place at the right time ! How much did you pay the sun to be so nice ? ;-)
Is it totally impossible it was intended as a (very) low pass. The approach is very stable and I can't see any attempt of a complete landing.
May be i'm wrong, but forme that was intentional.
Captain to First Officer: OK, you've now discovered two things: Ground-effect, and Vancouver is ten feet lower.
Stunning
The beast really needs space..... Nice landing though. I love Airbus
Great footage
+bobsurgranny Thanks!
Just wouldn't go down. Like my wife.
I didn't have any problem with her! lol
hehehehehe
I don't have that problem thankfully. Lol.
Hahaha brilliant!
Best video to date. Epic floater
+Emran Khonat LOL brings a new meaning to "epic floater" HAHAHA
Thanks for watching!! :)
Yeah need long term reviews on these gadgets but by then their outdated I guess, I'll stick to my potentially explosive Samsung...thanks for these reviews, you take the risk so others don't have to.
One unpredictable plane
Very nice catch and awesome spot, well done :)
+Ali Abou-Zeid Thank you!!
great video
I was on a go around once, 747 trying to land in Vancouver - torrential rain, visibility was awful. Felt like we were climbing at a 45 degree angle......could have heard a pin drop in the cabin...After leveling out, the Captain said the ILS went down and he was unable to see the runway... worked out okay, but was scary.
Great video! Was wondering the reason behind this go around tho?
Somebody in the flight deck during the second approach: I show you how to do it. This the correct way!
Cool bording 777 :D
Changing mind never was so fast.
Difficult to tell from the camera angle, but the 1st approach looked like having an over the limits tail wind. The wind sock can be seen just before "touch down" point.
yeah, good catch, thanks
+Jaco van Niekerk Thank you!! :)
Damn! impressive.
That was a fantastic video, plus no stupid music. I'm subscribing !
Awesome beast!!!
When the plane climbs the go around starts I know because I am a pilot
Emirates uses Eco-friendly drywash for their 380s. No water, and only 3 times a year. Keeps the plane glossy and clean.
First thought: GA due to exceedAnce of tailwind-limit (see windsock on final) But then 2nd approach with Landing with estimated wind of same direction and strength as on the first one. So the real reason may remain undisclosed for ever - the crews and flight data monitoring office's secret.
Ground effect be like...
+Tyler Tashji LOL!
Bruh
FI: Hold it.... hold it... just hold it a bit more... hold it...
and good landing 777 :D
That was a great/lucky catch! + Your handsome to boot.
+noluckBoston13 Thanks!! Was very lucky!! I was gitty like a school girl when she started to lift back up.
LOL!! Well, thank you ;)
- Andrew
Excellent Companie.,
the pilot was told over the radio that his mistresses husband was in the terminal
ATC: “British airways go around!!”
Captain: “HUHHH?”
ATC: “Go around!”
Captain: “Oh alright.”
*takeoffs again*
Wow... awesome.
I've yet to see this behemoth land in YVR and now i'm afraid I won't ever see it again with the way things are :(
Wow! Awesome catch man!
They really took advantage of that ground effect.
+Ryan S. Totally right? Just kept floating and floating!! Was a pretty impressive sight.. I could believe what I was seeing though my camera haha Was not prepared for that one bit!
it came in proper but it just flared too much....otherthan a very nice video, i loved it, im hitting subs if you post more spotting videos ;)
+Varun Solanki You can guarantee it :) Thanks for watching!!
That was almost a touch and go!
very amazing catch! anways how did you get 360.000 views in 12 days???
+PlaneSpottingBerlin ✈ Aviation Videos Thank you! It kind of just happened! Thanks for watching! Oh, I just checked out your channel, and you have some great work!!!
