Thomas feel you've really gotten back to your 'roots' with the last few video's really been enjoying the content - hiking, wild camping, photography for your sake & not like you feel you have to take a picture & of course 'superb' locations - Keep up the good vlogs - Thank you.
Great video and images, Tom. A couple of tips about wind from a travel guide who has lived in windy Iceland for 40+ yrs. You can steady it by using anything heavy to hang from your center post - things like water jug, backpack, tote bag full of rocks. Also, there's Mike's anti-hinge technique about orienting your tripod legs. Think of 2 out of 3 legs as a potentially disastrous hinge for your tripod. To avoid the legs hinging with the wind, put BOTH legs up front *facing* the wind head-on, forming a line 90° to the wind direction. Put the 3rd, *behind* (NOT in front of), the other 2. This trailing 3rd leg anchors the tripod and prevents the 2 others from hinging at toppling the tripod. Simple principle, but surprising how many people benefit from it.
I learned how to backpack and camp so I didn't have to hike down in the dark, and it changed my life for the better. I've seen sunsets, sunrises, and the milky way over the Appalachian Trail and the Sierra Nevadas. I have made amazing friends from the people I met hiking and doing photography. I feel these videos that you just go up and relax make for the most relaxing viewings, and thank you for letting us live vicariously through you when we aren't outside ourselves.

I think this was one of my favorites Thomas. Really felt like I was there with you throughout the trip. What you do is so much more than a landscape photographer. Thankyou

Man that is a pano view, the squares didn’t do it for me but the pano show how vast and beautiful the place is the sky did help to emphasize the beauty
Agreed, I think I would have prefered maybe a portait orientation, instead of the square, with more of that beatiful sky... But the pano was magnificient !
It's so strange to see all of those treeless hills and mountains. Hiking in New York State you are lucky to get a summit view. As usual I enjoyed this video. Thanks for sharing.
One grand master painter in China after he presented his painting of Chinas landscape to the Emperor walked to the painting steps and despaired forever. It was so reel. If I didn't saw your video and only your epic Landscape pano I would imagine you vanished into the picture as well. The colors of the epic sky and sheer size of place make us internally full of joy. I think you found your Shangri-La Great pano.

It's funny to hear you rave about that pillow because I went on a camping trip once and forgot my pillow, so off to REI. Browsing the selection, and Hey! That's the pillow Thomas Heaton likes, so I bought it...and got hooked. Use it all over the place, and I've found it really works well to support my lower back on chairs that don't have lumbar support, preventing back soreness!
Another great video! I do have a lens cap tip for you… put a small bit of Velcro on your lens caps and the opposite Velcro on each leg of your tripod… when you remove your lens cap, stick to the tripod. Never loose it or have to search for it again. Cheers!!!

Oh man you should be delighted. You really nailed it with that shot of Haystacks & the cloudy sun. One of the best images you have made, in my opinion. Loved the leading lines from the tarn to the sun, the tones - everything. Definitely should be a portfolio choice, I would say.
Gorgeous view indeed... so nice to be able to just stay and watch the world/day unfold with no worries about getting out in the dark... beautiful sunscape... gorgeous pano... third time 'lucky'... or maybe persistence pays off
How much does you quilt and 2 jackets weigh, and how much space do they take up in your pack? Check out the Swagman Roll, does the job of all 3, even better with your sleeping bag liner. It's enough carrying camping gear, before you add the weight of the camera gear. Got mine from Heinnie Haynes. And that filter contraption looks like an ordeal! Grayl Geopress. 10 seconds for a full bottle, purified water, not just filtered. Then you don't need that filter set up or the metal bottle.
I hope you enjoyed creating the longer video because I sure enjoyed watching it! The shot of the Sun with the clouds in front of it and the trail on the foreground mountain is outstanding. Thanks!
What a great video. I love this combination of hiking and photography. Thanks for the useful camping gear info as well. I am definitely a pillow person. Your photographs were beautiful and probably far better than you felt at the time. My favourite is definitely the one of the sun setting behind the mountain.
From one pillow guy to another, thank thank thank you! I will look for that one. Not a big camper myself to be honest, but my wife is trying to get me out and my end of the deal is that I can spend some time taking photos instead of always hiking. If only our ground out here in the western U.S. was that soft to just easily push in the stakes with your foot. Maybe a 3lb. mallet!
Well done, Thomas. I knew you would be back into your photography roots when the new wore off the van experience. Don't get me wrong, the van is essential, but now you know it is just a more efficient means to an end and now you're back at it.
I’ve been on lockdown in Singapore for almost a year. While Singapore is incredible in many ways, it’s also very small and doesn’t have a single mountain. I’m living vicariously through your videos until I can do some hiking/photography of my own. Thanks for sharing your adventures!

I love the "natural" color of the tent. I have never understood the use if bright, unnatural fabric colors for tents (and outerwear as well). I consider it like shouting to everyone within sight lines that YOU ARE HERE. "Thanks, we really don't want to know that you are on the hill across the valley..." Another great video Thomas.
I have to say, your video creation skills are now so, so good. We do not watch and think …ah yes here's a guy on his own camping on a remote hilltop talking to himself and running backwards and fpwards setting up the camera to film himself and give continuity……We just watch and it feels like we, individually, are with you somehow, and that you are only really talking to us personally….. Very inspiring and the photographs are good too! thank you.

Wonderful to watch, Thomas! I loved the picture of that beautiful sun going down along with the 9 shot pano...That was a beautiful job of capturing that impressive area!
As always Thomas very beautiful photography that first one was a black and white you could actually see more detail on the eight small mounds down the center by the creek or river that small pano was beautiful And here it is a special tip for you instead of using the platypus bag which is nice and a sawyer squeeze with the tubes and another platypus bag adding so much weight on top of everything else that you have I suggest getting only one bag which is a 3 l where they filter and that is a Katadyn be free 3L water filter or the exact same one with the gravity feed tube either one will work 10,000 times better than what you're already using
Beautiful images Thomas. I also respect your honesty very much about the conditions faced with in the morning and not always taking a photo just for the sake of it. Much respect and love your work.

I might be a scary person, my anxiety doesn't help either. But props to you just camping out there in the wilderness. I hear stories about people getting attacked and killed by bears. The wildest thing I did was driving to the west here in the US and taking a small hike but I was definitely worried about wild bears.
Thomas feel you've really gotten back to your 'roots' with the last few video's really been enjoying the content - hiking, wild camping, photography for your sake & not like you feel you have to take a picture & of course 'superb' locations - Keep up the good vlogs - Thank you.
Agree. More camping/photography and less "Hollywood style". Thumbs up!
Just wanted to say the same ... much better vibe 🙂✌
second this
Yea I was thinking the same. Fantastic content recently Tom 😊👍
"the sun" photo was very "star wars" in The Lake District.
Or, I'm a geek and overthinking this.
Quite possible.
Brilliant 👍🏾
The best kind of video, a little bit of gear, a little bit of camping, a little bit of photography 😀👍

Thomas, your composition skills are outstanding. You're also a natural story teller. Quite informative and entertaining... love your videos

The image with the clouds across the setting sun hopefully made the entire three climbs worth it - beautiful.
Oooooo the colours in the sun shot, magic.
Mr Heaton that shot of the clouds slicing the sun ... Awesome!!!!
Ok, the framing of that shot, the crescendo of wind, the absence of any dialogue... anyone else get chills from that bit at 0:20? Brilliant.
Was pretty common stuff. I will allow he must run around like a madman setting the video camera for the B roll.
What a view to wake up to!

Second image was beautiful. You picked the right place and time to camp.

that haystacks sun photo love it
Took two days to watch all of it, thanks to my primary profession, really wonderful to watch these during a food break.
your videos give me inner peace in tough times. Thanks man.

Comfortable story telling and nice views … thanks for your video !
Intro to this one was incredible. Like a movie.
Love the image with the sun and the clouds striping across it. Lovely to have a sense of camping without living home.
I'm always pleased when you guys mention that you're carrying an emergency beacon while in the middle of nowhere. Good example. Great pano!

A giant leap forward with a new, relaxed and chatty Thomas. Better than ever.
incredible.. i can feel it, the pillow
The lit up sky and atmosphere in the last two images were beautiful, well worth waiting for.

When I am trapped inside working I could honestly watch you hiking and taking photos all day long! You are my vicarious escape artist! Keep it up!!
a tip: try shot at first lights of dawn, the sky changing colours is fantastic
So calming.
I also really like the going back to your roots with the camping and hiking.
Definitely my favourite style of video. That panaramic photo was stunning!
That pano is just beautiful!
Last few videos are really enjoyable. Slower pace and focus on been outside work really good.
Lovely pano shot - nicely played
Gorgeous view indeed... so nice to be able to just stay and watch the world/day unfold with no worries about getting out in the dark... beautiful sunscape... gorgeous pano... third time 'lucky'... or maybe persistence pays off

Never mind why - lots of reasons - very enjoyable as well as informative. Great stuff...!
I'm a "pano" guy and I liked the 9 image sunset pano. I believe it made the best image of that wide landscape.
Well done!
What a great video. I love this combination of hiking and photography. Thanks for the useful camping gear info as well. I am definitely a pillow person. Best video I've ever seen about a pillow!
Fantastic roll-up vlog. I'm going to have to rewind and watch the last 2 over again. Great content and images, nuff said. Quality.
Beautiful Panorama! 👍
It's good to just relax and take in a beautiful sky from time to time. Really enjoyed your sunset images!!

GOD! I love your videos! SOOOOO inspirational!
This is really soothing to watch
Fantastic video, great to see you back camping. It was fascinating to see the camp set-up and amazing to see what you can get in a rucksack.
I love these ‘expedition’ (mini!) videos. A really relaxing way to start the day. Thank you.
I've really missed a good Thomas Heaton wild camping video!! This was wonderful and the light while you were making you dinner was amazing!!
Definitely one of my favourite videos of yours in a long time!
Awesome video Tom! Loved the "leave no trace"-reference :) Most important thing when doing some wild camping!
Loved this video of you camping at this spectacular location, seeing the photos, drone shots, camping and camera gear. Very well done!!!!
One of your better videos in a while, really liked it
When I used to this it was all about the extreme weather with with exception to safty for me that is lightning but the rest was fair game fun.
Some beautiful images 👍🏻
