“The train turns into a pumpkin at about 5:30”😂 This was lovely Greg - I am also totally happy reading all day! It definitely varies person to person. I think my biggest issue has been reading my books since being on booktube as though it is a sprint to the finish rather than a journey to savour and I want to get back to that. Totally a personal problem but just wondered if that resonated with anyone. But I’m aiming to fix it with a change of mindset. Great response! Thank you!

Definitely resonates. This year I cut down on my book challenge amount on Goodreads - fun to do but found I was racing through books to get to the total. Same with making videos about books - sometimes I find trying to race through to get a book done to make the video rather than enjoy the experience of the book.

Barring it becoming an obsession that causes you to neglect your well-being, then I don’t think you can really read too much. I will push back on your assertion that reading is as interesting as visiting ancient archeological sites. I love reading about them, but I’ve had the great fortune to see Aztec, Mayan, Zapotec, Inca, Silustani, Roman, and Phoenician ruins around the world. It never stops being an awe-inspiring experience to see the magnificent things humanity has built.

I enjoy my time in my yard and when the weather is nice I will take my book outdoors and every now and again pause to enjoy the birds and other visitors to my yard. Hope you have a great holiday in Mexico. I read quite a bit about ancient civilizations and other countries, so I travel by book 😉😊

I Love to read too. But it's not because I don't have other interests. It's because reading enriches my life. Reading gives me a greater understanding of the world and myself. Reading makes me more capable of having empathy. I think it was Angus Fletcher who called novels "empathy machines". Reading provides me greater respect and acceptance of my own humanity.
The greater question is, can one read too much? Probably. Personally, I haven't gotten there yet. Life is rich; there are many ways I want to explore it.

Considering the average person reads half a book per year(half of people read one book per year). I argue that means many of us 'read too much'. Or is the argument -listen to more books? :) I agree that if your only hobby is reading say one genre of fiction might be limiting, but reading many styles and ideas might be richer than what we may find in real life today? Aesthetics of living versus the embrace of the mundane. I finished the Morgan Housel book 'same as ever' yesterday - he agrees. The missing piece is appreciation, wanting what we have.
