I consider myself to be a very skilled driver and have to say that this is a very good video. Differing track and ambient conditions are huge factors. Also, performance accessibility as you mentioned. Take for example the C8 Z06. It laps faster than my ZL1-1LE, but 9 out of 10 people will go faster in the ZL1 because its performance is way more accessible. The rear engine C8 lacks front end feel and you need top tier skills to chase the front end. Whereas with the ZL1, you can be a complete Hoon in the car and it will tolerate it to some extent. Different tires are another huge factor, with some offering more outright grip, or just being more suited to the track where the testing took place. Driver fatigue on any given day plays a part too. In the case of lap times, if the times are within a second or two, especially over a long track like the Nurburgring, then it's really splitting hairs. If the time difference is 6:43 vs a 7:16 for example, then yes that is way more definitive.
You can say the same thing about cars 0 to 60 times. It's a dumb way to compare cars.
Lap times matter for sports cars. The problem is ppl want their sports car to have race car agility but behave on the road like a grand touring car.
