As much as I liked Koby’s journey, Helmeppo definitely had the best character development.
I mean not really if you ask me. He always was a entitled prick turned into decentish guy.
Koby definitely pulled a Neville Longbottom in the manga, but yeah, in the live-action, Helmeppo's growth was clearer and better written.

In the anime, the episode depicted in the manga in which Helmeppo denounces and embittered his father, who ran away after being arrested, was cut.
Koby's development doesn't even fully complete until after he's seen again so that makes sense.

Helmeppo was by far the biggest stand out character for me of this first season. I think most major characters' actors nailed their roles, but Helmeppo's does a perfect job of incapsulating his journey from stuck up daddy's boy to actual respectable marine in training, and every scene between him and Koby, he steal IMO.

The thing is if they get that far, idk what they're gonna do for saobody now. Since I mean his capture and getting shot gave way to that iconic scene and a pivotal moment.

Oda already annouced Season 2 which is probably gonna happen in 2 years or so, but I'll imagine the budget will be even bigger because Chopper is going to be adapted next season so will Ace, Crocodile, and Robin since they teased Smoker this last episode. I wonder how logias are going to look like this next season.

When I mapped it out with chapter numbers, best place seemed to be the civil war where Luffy shows up again as the finale.
But if they get more episodes then they could fit the whole arc in.

It’s crazy how literally one of the most insane and wacky anime got an amazing anime to live action adaptation of all time. Now I can’t wait for a walking talking adorable little reindeer to join the crew and hit out to fight against Baroque Works. This is gonna be so good!!!
That fight with Mr. 7 did happen! Zero was recruited by Baroque Works in the manga and anime too. they didn't show it though. At WP Zero even admitted it.
Something clicked for me in this episode.
I’m not sure if they have anything like it in the manga or anime, but when Koby told Luffy he was “the most wanted man in the East Blue” and Luffy said “that’s all I ever wanted”
I realized that Luffy’s entire family, in one way or another, left him to pursue piracy.
I think this moment suggested Luffy wants the One Piece, in part, because that will force his family (Dragon, Shanks, possibly Crocodile) to pay attention to him.
All he ever wanted was just to be wanted.

The song playing when Nami is at her mom's grave in this episode, "My Sails Are Set", is in HEAVY rotation on my playlists, it's so good. The whole soundtrack is cool, but that song just.... damn.
Tomorrow Studios managed a damn near impossible anime To live action pretty Well than a realistic one (Cowboy bebop). Shoutout to them. Hopefully we get S2 soon enough with the same Love.

I can see Robin late next season or early after. Choppers backstory and episode in general may be like 2 episodes. But Alabasta itself is were Robin appears and is also the 1st really major arc that’s not just introducing us to a crew member.
I say 1 episode for logetown, 2 for drum island, and 7 if not 8 for alabasta.

They can definitely tease Robin next season. The way they've been merging and stream lining arcs and the likelihood of them trying to at least end on the beginning of Alabasta means that Robin can be teased ala Smoker, if not more explicitly.
they way they cut together arcs in this season i can easily see them finishing alabasta in season 2. with the success of the show, hopefully it would mean more than 8 episodes as well, which they could then definitely do whiskey peak/little garden stuff really quickly and just spend 2 episodes on drum island and then finish the rest of the episodes with alabasta.

the way they are pacing this, we get to mid alabasta. so robin will be full cast, not just tease.
for namis tattoo, at least in the manga, the original tattoo of arlong was drawn over and extended to give it the pattern you see. It wasnt that they erased anything, more so just went over it with a new design but yeah the live action didnt make that clear

This has been Fantastic for a Live Adaptation which seems to be mostly the East Blue Saga mixed with the “ Diary of Koby-meppo” & “Buggy’s Crew Adventure Chronicles” Cover stories, & with even greater news is that Oda himself with his Transponder Snail that they gave him has announced the confirmation of Season 2 which I think will be to Alabasta but that aside here are some Easter Eggs in this Episode:
- The Marine base we see might be Brach 16 which Nezumi is in control of
- Notice on Usopp’s ketchup bottle it says “Boshi” which means Star which is what his attack names are called & it says that it was made in Syrup Village
- Luffy brakes Arlong’s weapon the Kiribachi / Shark Saw just like in the manga / anime, but when he bent it just like how he did with Arlong’s nose
- While Zoro & Sanji are fighting & arguing you can see an octopus statue next to a tree this is a reference to Hachi
- After Sanji kicked Kuroobi into the bar you can see various tiki figures that are maybe inspired by One Piece character designs
- During the party you can see them drinking tangerine wine made locally & the the food Sanji is making maybe a recipe from his official Cook Book which Nojiko references
- Nami after the fight with Arlong is wearing an outfit based on the one she wore on the color spread of Ch.107
- On Garp’s hand when he punches Luffy you can see a ring with the Marine symbol
- The song as Nami leaves her mother’s grave & the ending is called “My Sails are Set” featuring Aurora
- Like the new papers in the manga & anime the live action continues where Oda puts some information in them with this one referencing the island of Vira was taken over by the Revolutionary Army along with is logo which was first mention in Ch.96 / Ep.45, but as for the ads these are real
- Notice next to Luffy’s poster in the Baratie is next to cards referencing Nojiko’s Tangerines, Sandra Lizard a species from Alabasta, & the mizumizu meat from Water 7 while on the left references recipes for a Tomahawk Spiny Lobster from Shokugeki No Sanji Ch.1
- When Buggy & Alvida meet you can see a Don Krieg wanted poster on the wall but it’s an earlier version & not the one we see in the episode he was introduced
- On the Going Merry there are boxes that say Galley La company even mentions Iceberg
- The barrel that the Straw Hats used to announce their dreams is the same one Luffy was in that being it is labeled with Gyoru the fishmonger from Windmill Village
- On the End Credit map you can see the Cozia Island the where Sanji escaped from the Germa
- Smoker you can see while he was looking at Luffy’s Wanted Poster (bounty is 30,000,000 Berries / Yen = $ 200,863.71) he was stacking stones a hobby of his
seeing how they paced season 1 i can see them doing both chopper and robin for season 2, having it start with loguetown/reverse mountain (due to it being said in season 1) then going to little garden and drum island (chopper introduction) and having them end with arabasta (robin introduction)
Thinking about it too now this is luffy with no armament haki this is just his raw strength absolutely insane looking back

I think Garp was trying to protect Luffy in a way by taking on the "mission" of hunting him down personally. He wanted to give Luffy the time and space to decide for sure if this was the life he wanted to live, and by taking it on himself, Garp was able to shield Luffy from the worst tendencies of the Marines.
They did a great job with Helmeppo

They did so good with the effects in this show it's crazy. I don't even hate that Zoro scene as much as you guys, I thought it was pretty good acting with maybe some off directing and they did what they could, but I just really disagree it was bad lol.
I think Robin is gonna be in S2. She's in Alabasta arc and I think S2 will cover that arc. Also can't wait to see Vivi!!!
We'll most likely get Robin next season as the antagonist since the majority of the next arc is the Alabasta arc where Nico Robin was a major antagonist, joining after the defeat of Crocodile.

Aye man, if they said they want 6 seasons so we can get to marineford and finish there. I like the way the show does it’s own thing while also foreshadowing and following a linear story. Can’t wait for season 2

I think the tattoo was able to change so much because in the anime she went to town on it with that knife before being stopped and the bounty was so high because he had beaten the heavy hitters in East blue from Morgan, alvida, kuro, don crieg, buggy, and even the resident warlord arlong. He beat them all so his bounty needed to be higher than any of them cx
They could introduce robin next season, they have shown they're fully capable of slimming little arcs down and removing the fluff in the right areas; like how they introduced arlong early, they could totally reshape the drum island, whiskey peak and alabasta stuff so that crocodile and Robin show up earlier. Maybe have some of the folks at Baroque Works show up instead of Wapol? I'd be fine with that.
The fight with 7 and zoro did happen, it was not just animated, in the manga its shown in just 1 strip when 7 initially contact zoro, and then foward to Arabasta arc i believe, when its mentioned in a conversation that zoro killed 7 long time ago.
My faith in the Netflix Avatar the Last Airbender series has been restored.
Best anime adaptation so far. The great thing is that this cast are practically living embodiments of the characters they play in the show. This made me want to watch the anime but I haven't because everything isn't dubbed yet. That is the only way I watch anime. The only exceptions to that rule for me are TYBW and JJK because those are simulcasts that I have to see. I am getting hyped over the fact that Jamie Lee Curtis might play Dr. Kureha. That is a perfect fan casting and also Jamie wants to play her as well. Also, I hope they do most of the Chopper stuff with him as a puppet like the snails, so they don't rely too heavily on CGI.

I don't think there's a way we do a season two without showing Miss Cowgirl Hat, cuz she shows up super early in the Grand Line. The way the show is currently going, I feel like we have to finish A in season 2, which makes me worried about what parts of LT, RM, WP, DI, and LG we'll have to condense/cut.

Zoro's loss scene was manga-accurate and totally needed for his character arc. It was also acted awesomely! Mackenyu Arata is a lineage actor, from his daddy to himself, the man's got chops. Other than that, total agreement with the crew on how incredible this show is.
Of course it was needed, it’s one of Zoro’s best moments. The delivery was just terrible and could’ve been delivered way better.

Season 2 can condense 64-130 episodes of One Piece anime into 8 episodes and 40 to 50 minutes😂 they can leave out a lot.
