Africa has a massive amount of potential yet lack of educated people continue to haunt the continent. The rich who receive adequate education end up leaving to become doctors and such in Europe and the Americas because there is no way to make money in their native land. A proper educational system would completely change Africa. The money is there to build it, but corrupt politicians keep the money amongst themselves and it never is seen by the people. Everyone is commenting saying religion is causing this violence and while that is part of the problem it is not the sole reason. If people actually understood their religion they wouldn't go around killing people just because they're not of the same set of beliefs. That goes back to being uneducated. They don't actually know what they believe in, they just think they need to rid of anyone who isn't the same because someone of higher social ranking says so. They're vulnerable and will do anything in an attempt to please superiors so they can rise up the ranks in these militias, because that's the only way to become successful in life it seems. Without an education there is almost nothing else they can do. It's nearly impossible to get a good job in America without even a college degree, let alone not even having a basic primary schooling education. Africa has everything they need at their disposal (resources, people, land, etc.) and can fix itself without the help of foreign governments, they just need to use the right tools. That tool is education.

Yep, created a lot of unnecessary strife all over the continent. People that had no historical or cultural affiliations were forced into contraptions that left them at odds, while external forces did all they could to maintain these countries, usually by supporting one side or the other. Ultimately, the Africans have to sort themselves out. The organic evolution of country/states with willing members has to occur, sometimes painfully and slowly.

Yea, not sure when the last time violence on this scale happened in Ukraine for this long. I'd actually put my money on not in quite a few centuries. Ukraine saw some heavy defensive fighting in WWII, but it was mostly the German's fault and it was three years, not three hundred.
maybe if people read a little bit of the ethnography accounts about the peoples of Sudan (the Evans-Pritchard books on Nuer people, for example) would understand that is not a matter of plain struggle for the oil but a long and complex ethnic conflict between the Nuer and the Dinka.
I am sure the majority of the conflicts has to do with oil, but from what I see, there are people who want to be leaders and need to be worshipped. Very sad.

Byron Denninson It has nothing to do with being black. Almost all of Africas countries borders were created by Europeans without care to local populations. If it's borders were created more mindful of the locals or if they had just stayed out, Africa would have been better.
Abdukahor Muzaffarzoda My country would be several warring states without any resources or capabilities of a competent nation if the colonials didn't unify us. We actually revere them. Plus they ended slavery.
Nuer versus Dinka, it's like York versus Lancaster from the 1400s. Africa is just 600 years behind the rest of the world.
Apparently not- Ukraine for one example.
Yea, not sure when the last time violence on this scale happened in Ukraine for this long. I'd actually put my money on not in quite a few centuries. Ukraine saw some heavy defensive fighting in WWII, but it was mostly the German's fault and it was three years, not three hundred.
That's isn't the truth my dear
splitting Sudan to two parts was a big mistake
ash osama I know I'm 3 years late, but it really wasn't, the Arab majority North was heavily oppressing the African majority South.
I dont think that there was really much of a choice as North Arabic Sudan was prying on south Christian Sudan.
well now you're killing each...way to go..
things dont get better in that part of the world..never do and never will
ash osama Lies
TheDotGamer GD blacks are oppresed in the US. Its still better than genocide
Wow a real, professional, well-spoken actual journalist working for Vice. I'm surprised.
Fantastic job. Really well done.
Robert Young Pelton! Come Back Alive! Give this dude a channel already....
maybe if people read a little bit of the ethnography accounts about the peoples of Sudan (the Evans-Pritchard books on Nuer people, for example) would understand that is not a matter of plain struggle for the oil but a long and complex ethnic conflict between the Nuer and the Dinka.
But why are they are they enemies of each other? They seem to have quiet a similar culture
Hans Peter Someone’s brother stole someone’s cattle around 4/500 years ago
I am sure the majority of the conflicts has to do with oil, but from what I see, there are people who want to be leaders and need to be worshipped. Very sad.
one of the vice, GOLD
Secession was the worst step to take, I am from Kenya and sometimes you meet Sudanese along the streets of Nairobi and you shed tears.
I cant live without netflix and wifi
Secession best thing ever 🇸🇸🇸🇸
they could be so rich and powerful what a waste
please every body know the truth so long the western countries want to steal their sources nothing will change
Sirak Lata Those africans simply can't keep their own corruption under control.
Same thing with the DRC and Venezuala. They have trillions of dollars worth of natural resources but there is just too much corruption.
@@ocsc9055 Not corruption, just not enough educated people.
rich and powerful = corruptability. i couldn't do it better, i know i'm corruptable and shouldn't go anywhere near a political or corporate career. best way i can help the world is to not be involved
Boy am I glad to live in the US, your darkest day over here is a walk in the park in South Sudan
And yet here we are, a year after this comment was made, with a president who doesn't want to leave office, pestilence ravaging the land, rising tension between social groups, and *lots* of guns. Many steps away now seem like only a few degrees difference between the US of last year and a similar place as this.
@@GabeThinks president who dont want to leave office? :D lmao newly elected president first week in already bombed country, gathered national guards to close down whole Washington, damm you dems are retarded. Literally dictatorship arrising but you dont care, double standards are strong with you hypocrites.

Once in a position of power, they never help the people, only themselves.

Very conservative I would say more like 2025
@@trevorsmith2811 u cant even spell Detroit right, must of got your education there.
Oh please conflict in Africa is as natural as sleep, to truly rid South Sudan's problems you would need to unite all of tbe groups within Africa and that is seemingly impossible if they are left to their own devices.
thanks to us and eu
amazing documentary
Vice was gold those days😍😍
What's the point of uploading parts then uploading the whole thing. Vice trying to milk that RUclips ad revenue huh? Lol..
Part vídeos= more money
well you can actually see the whole thing from the beginning by going to there website. They are trying to make more money but thats how business works.
You think cameras, travel and personnel come cheap?
Rabbit Trix Yeah but those are sunk costs, and profit from ads dont go directly to filming this, as it was already filmed, numb nuts... its just vice being greedy capitalist fucks
