The Real Rebels of Congo: Searching for Joseph Kony and M23 (Full Documentary)
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 5 дек 2012
- The Democratic Republic of Congo is now home to more than a dozen militant groups, factions of the national army, and scores of rebel combatants. We rode along with US Special Forces and followed the path of Kony and the LRA into the jungle. In the process we learned that the greatest threat to regional security were rebels that no one wanted to talk about: M23.

I love how VICE always sends some interviewer that looks like a sophomore in high school to such intense situations as these.
he was in kosovo too
you must watch Thomas in Senegal watching Goat wrestling
Thomas does a great job of living in the moment....I think his awkwardness helps breaks down usual walls that people may have from outsiders.
🤣
What? A vice reporter openly admitting their dislike of the UN?
Old Vice. Don't get me wrong I still think Vice are one of the better media outlets but they're not what they used to be.
UN is a joke. It's a branch of superpowers to take advantage of the world. Most UN military members are just contractors dressed in military uniform looking for minerals.
isnt vice owned by a literal nazi
@Peter Goezinya I agree whilst the UN doesnt achieve it's intended goal all the time it does help sometimes
@@zibobatoua7988 also you must be talking about pmcs becuase there are alot more pmcs in places like these than actual un soldiers.

I love every Vice documentary on Africa. That whole region is so freaking crazy. Many elements to it's terrible nature. War, corruption, factions, territorial disputes, warlords, weapons on the lose, metal, resources, coltan etc etc.

And now all those monsters are coming to europe, and destroying our traditions and invoking violence.
Africa isn't a region idiot
"Terrible nature " thanks to your "ancestors smh
it's cheaper for the developed world that Congo and Uganda and other nations remain undeveloped

@@ceobigspoon you missed when you could trust vice imo
This comment didn't age well.
The still picture at 8:21 supposedly depicting "Ugandan troops" as the narrator purports, was in actual fact shot by US troops during exercise Southern Accord in Botswana. The joint execise between US troops and Botswana troops was coducted in August 2012. The African men in millitary fatigues are members of the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) which have nothing to do with Uganda, DRC or any war. None the less I do enjoy your documentaries, you should do a story on Botswana one day.
this is a good comment
Thank you for pointing that out! It is important to see what rhetorical tools vice and other organizations use to illicit emotions, and you did so very respectfully.
Applaud these journalists for going into these places risking their lives like us military personnel. I was in Liberia in 2014 during the Ebola outbreak and it was the worst deployment I had, but it made me realize how fortunate we are in the outside world of Africa.
This sucks because when an African rebel group wins a civil war the leader often sets up with good intentions but later devolves into a dictator no better than the last although hopefully this vicious cycle will cease.
Edit: not all the time but very often.
Absolute power, corrupts absolutely.
Well intentioned thoughts don't hold well with impulsive revolutionary types.

I have to say, while I've been critical of Thomas in the past, he REALLY pulled it out on this one.
Some great work by him and the crew on this one.
there's no words to describe the disparities in this world
Great work done in this video
This is an exhaustive look into the on again off again war in DRC. Africa deserves coverage like this, a lot more of it. The region is the fastest growing economically in the world, and has been for more than 10 years now. Where is America's attention when it comes to Africa? This is a great contribution to that effort. Thanks, Thomas Morton.

Dummy
@Dark of the knight The US isn't going from Villiage to Villiage killing, kidnapping, and raping the community their! I think the people of Africa would love the help of the American people! People wants to bash the US and talk down about Trump but if given the opportunity they want to come live in the US.
I really appreciate the work you put into those travel maps between scenes, Vice. It's good to know where you're geographically referring to.
I will give the reporter the time of day as it takes a great deal of balls to go to the places this dude goes, must love Africa, well done keep going and don't get killed.

You and me both man
for the same reasons ALL people fight wars, unfortunately: territory issues, nationalism, resources, cycle of poverty, desire for liberation and just plain ignorance. as long as people exist, war will also. . .
Haha I didn't say I was totally oblivious, just wasn't a concert reason as to why they're fighting thx tho
Concrete
thatboyrick1 those reasons seem pretty concrete to me. outsiders coming into your territory and using up your resources, restricting/effecting your freedom and directly contributing to your poverty. that would definitely trigger unrest. . .

If you are going to report on the real rebels of the Democratic Republic of the Congo , you have to give a brief history on the country and why it is in the position it is today. There would not be a functioning Africa nor a functioning industry without DRC. The Democratic Republic of the Congo is located in the heart of Africa and it contains numerous of minerals that make the world go round and also not to mention it is also home to the second largest rain-forest. The U.S and other imperialist countries support these rebels , they support the leaders who are behind these impurities . Bill Clinton the husband of the now presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and other leaders single-handedly ignored the Tutsi Genocide in the 90's and because of that guilt the U.S. let the Rwandan President Paul Kagame invade the DRC and murder the Hutu's who escaped the war , the Hutu's who had NOTHING to do with the genocide , also they murdered Congolese people , stole minerals and paved the way for more chaos . After that event, the eastern part DRC has been a " free for all ". People , please don't be fooled because there are numerous countries who are benefiting from my country's destabilization.
We wouldn't have fully operational cell phones without the DRC

Can someone who is knowledgeable about the conflict please explain who is fighting who and why? I'm genuinely interested in understanding this conflict, and the video only served to add more confusion. Thanks :)
well, the conflict is between rebels(originally from neighboring countries) and the congolese goverment. The government wants to take back the minerals.
Acquiring a clear cut understanding of this conflict is one of the problems in solving it. Not too mention corrupt government and business interests whose rape and pillage Congo's resource wealth thrives under these conditions. I really can't suggest a one stop shop to garner information on it. All I can suggest is watching as many documentaries on the subject that one can find along with reading whatever news you can come across as well. The number of rebel groups operating in eastern Congo alone is mind numbing to get a handle on. Rwanda, Uganda, and their interests come into play, along with business as I stated earlier. Just take the time to research. I found that searching and watching news segments and docs gave me at least a novice grasp of it all. Then with recent fighting and chaos in the CAR(central african republic), I'm sure it will just serve to add to the bullshit that always seems to flow down stream for the Congolese to deal with =/ I will tell you this though Epicpolyphony, with the wealth of natural resources in The Congo, she should be a stable and wealthy nation. However, business interests in the west and neighbouring governments conspire to keep Congo;corrupt, war torn, and haemorrhaging in order to capitalize on that chaos for their own profit
Google the first and second congo wars on google. Wikipedia has some great information. i'm really interested in this too and I wish there was more... It's severely fucked up but being a history nerd I cant get enough.
cameron phillips Same here mate. I got interested in the African conflicts a few years back. I devour what ever information I can garner. Sadly, western media rarely address it,and when they do it is a 30 second half hearted sound bite. =(
