I owned a 458 for 2 years, sold it, now driving the exact car featured here. Hands down the best car I have ever owned! The Ferrari's exhaust note is way better than the GT R but, in my opinion, AMG R is better in all other areas.
I still like the 458 better but this is one hell of a good car
The 4.0 AMG engine in every application is fantastic. The deep grumble it produces even at idle is amazing.

Had a 2018 gtr in Jupiter red, still one of my all time favorite cars. So much fun to drive and yet so easy to drive around on the daily.
Fun tidbit about the transmission, it's the same dct box found in the 458, California, f12, and SLS
Yeah there's really only a handful of dct transmission makers out there
I enjoyed watching you have your expectations exceeded with this car Dan. The GT series is one of the most misunderstood ranges around. When you actually dig into how these cars are put together, you get a better understanding of how Mercedes/AMG engineers won pretty much every argument over the accountants.

Seeing that window sticker I was amazed at the MPG that Supercar gets. I mean 20mpg on the highway with a powerful twin turbo-charged V8 is so surprising and I bet on a long commute you could easily get more than that. With THAT MUCH cargo space that would be a great car for a cross-country Rally; you definitely said it best - parts, service, and maintenance isn't going to be an issue with the abundance of Mercedes service centers. I love the green, it reminds me of Goblin from the Spider-Man series. Someone is going to get a great car, if you keep it I want an invite to drive please! No garage space? Just move some furniture and park it indoors 🤣. In a future video will we see what your wife thinks? I can indeed see that car holding value quite well - all those comfort features along with the color and overall design too; I don't even follow prices but the shapes and contours is very attractive - piece of artwork 🥂

I have a suggestion for your cameras, Dan. Connect a strong wire to each camera and put a button on the other end (12-18 inches away) and close the button inside a closure (hood or trunk) or a door jamb. If the camera becomes dismounted there's a fair chance you might not lose it altogether!

The super quick DCT shifts make a huge difference in the visceral experience of the AMG GT.

This car is without a doubt a Supercar. The Black series version held the Lap record at the Nurburgring. FYI it’s actually a front mid engine because if you pop the hood the front tires are actually in front of the engine putting the engine between the wheel base.

I'd say that this is probably the best daily driver supercar. No need to worry about reliability thanks to the Mercedes dealers almost everywhere, very practical and very comfortable. If only the newer models (like 2020) sounded like this car, but they don't due to emissions and filters :(.

It's also wife friendly. My wife loved driving our GTS, but hates our 458.
Great car. You gotta PPF that Magno paint almost immediately so you can wash it normally. One trip through a car wash with a wax or harsh detergent kills the magno paint. It's a terrible design for people who dont wash the cars themselves. I know a few people who wrecked there entire paintjob with 1 drive through wash. AMG GTR is almost a supercar, excellent linear power. Really glad you guys are doing so well with this dealership

what do you mean kills it? how is it different and how can you tell a pristine one?
@@jeoboden the factory magno paint can’t accept any wax or harsh detergents. Can only be hand washed. You can see immediately if the pain is affected. There is specific cleaners that need to be used
Totally agree...I have a magno gray AMG and initially PPF'd the front. Once I realized you can't buff out scratches without losing the matte look, I wound up PPFing the rest of the car.
the matte paint is very difficult to match, even if u get the color right the sheen is just hard to match. I considered an aventador with scratches and chips on the matte paint, asked around 6 body shops in the LA area and most of them turned down the job or charge 2-3x more. You cant polish and fix any mistake, or any future blemishes. Would never get a matte paint car without proper full body ppf. I was shopping for an amg gt series recently, and 9/10 cars have no ppf at all, apparently the owners are not into owning their cars long term, they pretty much dump them after the warranty is over. Very different from ferrari or porsche owners

Dan, I kind of agree with you on the color, except I have a real distaste for satin paint. The color itself is great. BTW, have you found a "bumpy road" to replace the one near your old house ? Edit: Looks like I commented to soon, you found one. LOL

Hmmm good question. They behave very differently given one is turbo and once it's na.
I want a 2005 mercedes E55 amg. upgrading end supercharger and intercooler with vrp products get you close to 800hp, and add in an E85 conversion kit and your over 800hp. Just skip that 200lb optional panoramic roof.
That would be fun to drive
4th time watching....a couple of questions..... is it hard to do diy maintenance (oil change, fluid changes, belt replacement, etc).. is it reliable for a daily driver ? I'm considering forgoing the 2002 Ferrari 360 and 2009 Bentley GTC for one of these....
I don't know on the diy part as I haven't worked on them but they should be

Thanks Dan.... seen a couple of videos and seems straight forward, nothing complex...i found it pretty cool that fluid top off is under the carbon cover in front of the engine...

I tracked a GT S and had a blast. Can't even imagine how much better this one would be.

I've tracked both and have 15 track days in the GT S. The GT S is a wet noodle compared to the R. Hopefully the R holds up better on track than an S does.
@@JustinTipton It does, however, it needs some dialing in. It's main drawback is understeer. It can easily be changed by changing camber, but part of what makes it feel so secure on the road, is also what creates some drawbacks on track.
Also, it needs a set of Pagid RSC2 pads for track. It burns though a set of OE pads in 3-5 hours depending on the track.
@@AB-80X Pagid pads, Endless fluid and a different disc is where I ended up. Racing brake and OEM discs didn't last, but I can't remember the name of the one I liked. I did a corner balancing which helped a ton. But the GTS (2016) has crazy body roll compared to the first run GTRs. Night and day difference.
@@JustinTipton I have had no issues with discs, but we don't track that GTR that much.
I have had Surface Transforms discs on my Pista and 488 though, and ran them with RSL1 endurance pads. Not cheap, but will out-stop and outlast anything.
As for fluid, I prefer SRF.
Well I have a friend that is willing to sell his green hell magno GTR with upgraded turbos, downpipes, tune, tons of carbon, etc. If you want message me. I own a GTS and it is a beast. Especially once you downpipe and tune these cars the engines GO WILD!
I'm not sure we'd want a modified one as they are always harder to sell

I own a 2018 GTC, and an Audi v-10 R8. I was completely surprised that the Merc gets more attention. R8's are a common super car seen on the road, but many people have never seen an AMG GT, and more did not know they even exist! Seems to appeal to broader audience?
