You've conveyed quite brilliantly & comprehensively the differences in these two cars - I have driven neither, but my dream car for quite a while has been the Vantage - thank you for your valuable & in depth analysis on both, particularly in the handling characteristics, which is very important, in a GT Sports mid - engined two seater? I now know with certainty which one I'd opt for?!!
Fantastic review, you talk about the things that actually matter. Also in terms of charisma, I know it's superficial, but the Aston Martin brand is far more impressive than having a Mercedes
Love both cars. I'd have to go Vantage but the choice is razor thin. Not a fan of the infotainment screens. It's like they forgot to design a space for a screen and someone left their tablet on the dash and thought F it. Lets get this out the door.
I think you feel like you have to Over steer because your seating position is so far back from the front tires that you feel the turn when the back of the car feels the turn, if that makes sense
Good Life I’m not English, I’m not German ... I agree with you however I also prefer McLaren or Aston Martin over Porsche or AMG... its of course subjective and much to do with the one being more common then the other, seeking that bit more of exclusivity and the English brands can also deliver really exciting cars!
Not sure I understand? Once you spec one it gets very close to £150k. It’s just not a £150k car and I think depreciation will show that... of course, I could be proved wrong.
@@findtomdotcom So you have the same view about the AMG then, because it's give or take the same price once optioned yet the Aston is a better car. Therefore the Aston is worth the money more than the Mercedes
Ahh got you, yep that’s a fair point. So I’ll say I think they are both over priced and in the case of the GTS I think that’s why they have deprecated quite heavily. As a secondhand buy they actually great value, but as a new car? Well I wouldn’t put my money in one. That and I think the 911 is still the better, (and cheaper) car.
@@findtomdotcom Fair enough, everyone has their own opinion. Personally 911s don't feel special enough as an ownership proposition, they're very common. Someone with a 30k 911 will give the same impression to the average person that a 100k second hand one would. I love the sex appeal and caché that comes along with the Aston
@@paulbird1808 unfortunately no. I wish I still had it. I was offered a good deal against a Merc s500 at John Hollands in Sheffield as I needed 4 seats at the time. I would have another though, manual in place of the auto.
As speed picks up and curves become aggressively sharp, the rear steering/ front hydraulic set up with my 2019 AMG GTC loses the odd disconcerting character and feels magically confident as if it literally straightens out the curves. Less so, for example, with the rear steering/ front electric set up of my 2019 Porsche 911 GTS , although under less demanding conditions, the Porsche's steering feel is more natural than the GTC's. As for the Vantage, there is no benefit of rear steering at any level, which, when coupled with the engineered-in 'sway', may not be as confidence inspiring in the faster chicanes and switchbacks as the AMG GTC or the Porsche GTS with rear wheel steering. I would have to test the Vantage to be sure and I have a feeling that I'll have a lot of fun in it just trying to compare it to the others.
Nice and fair review Dan, I never understand where all the noise comes from when people go on about the Merc engines etc, in the new Aston being negative, don't they remember that the last v12 engine was sourced from two v6 Mondeo units being stuck together and they were built by Ford in Cologne during its whole life, there is an argument that suggests now its a Merc unit Aston have taken there engine supply up market, so whats the issue really. I even like all the switch gear in the new Vantage, all these touch screens just make it very difficult to read with dirty finger marks and glare. Mind you I still don't like the Ipad looking Nav units Audi and Bentley do that better with the fold down variety, in my opinion.
As you noted this can be compared to the 911 gts, which is great daily driver, but would you really call it a gt car? The 2024 amg gt, now that is definitely a gt car as it’s no longer trying to directly compete with the 911 and reverted back to the sl
Appearance wise IMO the AMG-GT is more pleasing front and side, while the Vantage has a better rear looking rear end. Which one has more legroom for a 2 meter tall driver???
I honestly see more of a smile on this presenters/ car reviewer/ I like them both but considering AM is more rare and boutique brand. Lean to the Vantage. It’s sex on wheels so hot !
So AM has an AMG GT engine and a subpar trans, body roll, electronic steering, at a higher price? That’s a good thing? Oh I forgot, you are paying for those giant gear paddles!
N_from_Chicago did you even look at the review? Or test drive this Vantage? The trans gives a better drive experience then a double clutch... unless you want to win those milliseconds of faster gear change which could make a difference on a track, this ZF auto is fantastic on public roads and it is the sports version so it also changes very quickly.
From your opening sequence, to answer the question what does Aston being thata diffwrent to the Merc. Basically, its the kudos of it being and Aston Martin and all that brings. So many Mercedes on the roads that it cant feeel as special as an Aston.
This is amazing! Was asking for this for awhile as I believe the AMG GTC is the better AMG as far as driving dynamics. The Vantage could have been special by offering a manual transmission option like prior gens. Shame
IMO the AMG GTC is a much more superior car. The one thing you failed to mention is that the sensation you feel in the AMG that you reference in the GTR as a delay, is in fact due to the way the engine sits in the car. Also, technically your sitting so much closer to the rear wheels which the sensation would absolutely be different. There are other reviews on RUclips that give the edge to the AMG over the Aston. The turbos are much larger on the AMG GTC since it actually shares the turbos from the GTR. You are also obviously biased towards the Aston Martin, lol. I can understand that, but the Aston Martin will not hold its value in the long term and tuning the Aston over the AMG will be night and day. I go for AMG all day long much more technologically advanced.
I've driven the AMG GTC coupe and the new Vantage is definitely superior by a long shot. It's on another level. The AMG GTC coupe felt cheaply put together interior-wise compared to the Vantage. I felt its steering off-centre lacked feeling and general feedback. Vantage sounded much better too amazingly!
It sounds like a desperate attempt at justification for what is fundamentally a flawed approach to car manufacturing at this end of the market. The salt of it is that AM has shot itself in the foot and relegated itself to be another pretender...The engine is the heart of the car. Once you remove it, the rest loses its weight.
I’ve got a Vantage and changed from years of AMGs. The Aston is the better drivers car, engine is a masterpiece. AMG has not shot itself in the foot, rather it is a good business decision. From the horses mouth.
Merc is better, but guys do you know that mercedes soon take over astonmartin to have extra division in UK.aston is already using v8amg motors and other stuff
Regarding the ride quality of the AMG GTC coupe this guy is spot on. I felt it was terrible for a luxury GT car. And I drove the dynamic plus package model with slightly stiffer suspension - judging by the seats in this review the car he is testing doesnt even have this package.
C7 z06 or even c8 z06 Corvette is better value than both. But it is still a corvette. My point is Aston is way more special than Benz in 2023. Build quality
The AM interior is very boring and cheap, for a car that is half luxury, and a high level luxury car, the interior should be much nicer than it is, I think that most people would vote the Vantage as the better looking car here, but $175k for such a boring interior?? I'll take the Jaguar F Type R over either one of these cars
I strongly disagree. That is the most mediocre Aston Martin in ages. I expected another great car from Aston, but they delivered an angry MX-5 with childish interiors. I save the overall shape of it only, which I find very sexy. On the other hand we have one of the best looking Mercedes, both externally and internally. No match.
It's always a pleasure to hear your description about the handling and have your detailed opinions about such cars. Cheers & keep it up !
Thank you for your honest review. I pick up my Vantage tomorrow!
I love the AMG GT Style / design more

im honestly considering buying both these cars but they are surely too similar, be a waste of money

Great comparison but... Would you really buy the Vantage new? I still think it's 20k too expensive, but secondhand it should be about right.
But it's better than a car that starts at 10k more so surely it's well priced?
