    In my home I recently sold, I was going to try this, but opted for a pro to do it. I'm glad I did. It cost me $595, (it was an original 46 yr old tub) but they did an amazing job. They sanded the tub and surround down to the bare fiberglass, then primed and coated it several times. I had it done 10 yrs ago, but the products then tended to yellow over time. The new products don't, and with care, should last 15 to 20 yrs. I'm glad I chose the pros, but I'm not saying this in the video, doesn't work. It looks very nice !

    It was not stated not to roll over the anti-slip area once you've rolled it and waited 10 minutes or so. Now, most of the tub is anti-slip. Every detail, no matter how small, should be covered. BUT...the tub looks great.

      Thank you! That is the proverbial question - to strip or not? More and more professional refinishers, as well as our weekend warriors, are confronted with bathtubs & tiles refinished by some other company OR some other Do-it-yourself Kit. . I wish the answer was as easy as yes or no, but it’s not and both answers need an explanation. So, here you go: craigsrefinishingtips.com/bathtub-refinishing-pro-tips/

    I just finished this project and I would highly recommend a high-powered led head light. It puts extra light directly on the surface and helps you see the runs and/or areas that need extra rolling.
    When you are nearly done turn OFF the lights in the room and look around with the headlight only. You will then be able to see in more fine detail any areas than need a rolling over.
    I got this tip from a professional car detailer.

      One of the most common questions we receive about our Do It Yourself Kits is: "Can this product be used on an acrylic and fiberglass tub/shower"? The answer is absolutely Caroline! As a matter of fact, all our Bathworks Refinishing Kits will work fantastic on fiberglass tubs or shower units. But always remember, we do recommend (2) kits for a one-piece tub/shower unit or bathtub and wall surround.

    In the 1930's, all those "old" colors were introduced into bathrooms for the first time. It was all the rage because before that people had no options besides white. Weird how colors can be trends.

    How long does a newly painted bathtub last without needing a redo.

    • @bathworkskits
      @bathworkskits  6 лет назад +15

      A newly refinished bathtub will last as long as you take care of it! As long as a "store bought bathtub"? YES!
      Your bathtub has just been resurfaced using a Bathworks DIY Kit! Here are a few tips to help protect your investment:
      Avoid leaving wet washcloths on the surface for long periods of time.
      Stay on top of the soap. Soap scum will dull and dirty your finish very quickly! Unless you use a heavy abrasive it is quite difficult to remove.
      Hair dye will permanently stain and ruin everything… I live with three women, I know! :)
      When giving the dog a bath put down a towel to prevent scratches. If you're giving your cat a bath, well, wear body armor!!! ;)
      If you opted of the non-slip bottom, and need to use a bathmat, use the non-suction cup kind. Here's one we sell:
      www.bathtubrefinishingkit.net/Product/Bath-Mat--Clear
      Always clean with a non-abrasive cleaner such as Scrubbing Bubbles.
      Also, use preventative maintenance products, such as our bathtub polishing and care kit is great compliment to the BathWorks DIY Bathtub & Tile Refinishing Kit.

    • @adhc8560
      @adhc8560 6 лет назад +1

      Why use Ajax? There are so many effective non-abrasive cleaners.

    • @alannahfitzgerald
      @alannahfitzgerald 6 лет назад +3

      Can you still scrub the bathtub though I wonder with any cleaning product once the surface has a painted coating? And, what would be the expected lifetime of the painted surface before it starts cracking and peeling off?

    • @bathworkskits
      @bathworkskits  6 лет назад +7

      Thank you Alannah, we appreciate that. So first, we wanted to mention that Bathworks DIY kits are not fragile what-so-ever! As a matter of fact, Bathworks is a professional grade 2-part resin. And let me tell you, when all is said and done its tough as nails, never yellows and is GONNA last! Second, your newly refinished bathtub is going to clean super easy for you! With just your normal cleaning (staying on top of the soap scum) those hard abrasives will never be needed.
      Refinishing your bathtub with a high-quality DIY Kit not only is going to give you an extremely durable, high gloss look that you desire but it's also a self-rewarding DIY project that you’ll be very proud of.

      @alannahfitzgerald 6 лет назад +4

    • @bathworkskits
      @bathworkskits  5 месяцев назад +1

      We strongly recommend removing the caulk around your fixture prior to doing any refinishing work, and then recaulking once the project is complete. Hope this helps!

    • @emilyfrank3954
      @emilyfrank3954 5 месяцев назад

      @@bathworkskits Is this true even if it's brand new caulking? I was misinformed and thought I had to recaulk before applying the glaze

    • @bathworkskits
      @bathworkskits  5 месяцев назад +2

      @@emilyfrank3954 The only kind of caulk that can be painted over is painter's caulk - which is acrylic latex. Most often we find and use silicone caulk around bathroom fixtures.. caulk by nature repels anything that tries to adhere to it. If the misinformation about the caulking came from any one of our sources (videos, instructions, etc.) please let us know where you found that so we can correct that.

    What should you do to prep a rusted spot? Its rusty around my drain

    • @bathworkskits
      @bathworkskits  2 месяца назад +2

      Greetings, in order to properly prepare an area with any rust build up, you will want to sand it down first to remove any loose pieces. Once done with that, remove the sanding debris from that area. If there are any pitted or crater-like areas, we recommend filling those with Bondo to make the surface flush with the surrounding area. Following that, we recommend using Kilz Original (Oil-Based) aerosol primer to seal the surface - this will help prevent the rust from bleeding through. After all of those steps are completed, you are ready to refinish your fixture. Hope this helps! If you have any additional questions you are certainly welcome to give us a call at 1.800.872.8827 and we can provide you with additional information. Happy refinishing!
