For the past 3wks here in MN I've been crushing both lrg mouth & 6 to 8 lb walleye on chatterbaits started at 3/8 to 3/4 oz. But they where all caught at night. The lakes I fish don't have pockets or coves etc. Just piers a few boat docks that's it.. and I just found out that there aren't many if any shad in the lakes here as well..

Good morning matt.and Tim I live in southeast Texas in my subdivision we have 7 private lakes but my Maine lake out of the 7 is a 95 acre man made lake that is spring fed there's 2 major coves and a big area of laydowns and a bus loads of docks .the lake stays crystal clear year round. What baits would you suggest for me to throw. I have wore out my active target and my mega live image trying to find something they will bite on we have just gotten our first cool front it started last Monday I'm just wondering if the sudden change in barometric pressure has anything to do with the bass just shutting down. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I'm tired of not even getting a hit I've used top water jerk baits jigs etc. No luck. HELP PLEASE .AND WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO FISH DAY TIME OR EVENING OR NIGHT. ANYWAY GUYS THANKS FOR ALL THE INSTRUCTIONAL. VIDEOS MAY GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS YOU AND TIM AND YOUR FAMILY 👪. IN THE NAME OF JESUS. UNTIL NEXT TIME GUYS TIGHT LINES.

Thank you Matt for the great breakdown. For some reason it sank in this time after repeated beating it in the brain. I have a mix between highland and lowland on one reservoir that I fish. Steep banks with alot of laydowns yet no real breaks and 50ft to 2ft. Generally gets deeper closer to the dam. No humps or rock piles that Ive seen on the electronics. Cant find deep bait balls and not blowing up on the surface. Most of the fish are always suspended at 20ft. Man, Ive tried everything, including spooning. Very hard place to fish, any tips you could recommend? I will try more of the panfish method, savage gear wedge tail bluegill and crappie (small ones) considering that was mentioned.

I've had luck in Arkansas, with those stubborn suspended fish on bluff walls, that wouldn't hit spoons or crankbaits by swimming jigs past them. I don't know own if it's the secondary action of the skirt, or maybe the jig being quieter than other baits making it more attractive to pressured fish, but you may give it a go and see if it would work for ya. Good luck man!

I need to know where bass should be on a section of river that has been dammed up ( creating a fairly shallow long pond to best describe it). I have no shad in my local water and the main forage is bluegills, crawdad or now, small fry/hatchlings. Most of my water is mud/muck bottoms and most of the decent cover is root systems that grow along the bank from cypress trees. I’ve tried fishing the few brush piles, sections where the river bottom isn’t covered in muck and obviously along the roots to no avail.

I'd love to hear on how to target lakes that are FULL of shad, but not that many bass. I'm talking tournaments normally won with 6-8lbs and maybe only 1 or 2 teams in a field of 50+ coming in with a limit. But schools of thousands of shad everywhere! Haha

What are we doing wrong if we do everything you've suggested and still aren't catching fish. ANY fish. Well I caught 4 or 5 very small bass and my husband caught a few small bass also but after weeks of fishing 3,4,5 days a week at Morse Reservoir we still can't seem to locate the fish. Help! What are we doing wrong or is this just a lake that isn't well stocked? How do I find out? P.s. after asking everyone we come across on the lake, they all say they haven't caught any or maybe a few caught 1 or 2. I love to fish but I would like to catch something once in a while. Ya know?

What about coves on a major river system like the St Johns River, let's say for example. Some of them are kind of long and when they end they almost look like a pond rather than a lake (river)? Obviously we're not talking about lakes here, but something like that is it similar?

As an avid outdoor enthusiast/writer, people think I've always fished (this is only my second season). It only looks that way because I absorb every bit of content I can from this channel, and it pays off. Yesterday, I watched this and immediately put the knowledge to use on the shore of my local reservoir. The bate fish were exactly where you said they would be, and so were the bass. I hit my new PB on both largemouth and smallies using this info. Your presentation is great and the info is both accurate and very easy to apply. Keep it up.

When you give the advice for each body of water for a given time of year, would you ever consider adding in an additional breakdown by species? For example, how do find and catch largemouth, smallmouth, and spots in the fall in each highland reservoirs, lowland reservoirs, natural lakes, ponds, tidal, and non-tidal rivers? The big three all have their differences in behaviors and I'd love to hear a more in depth take on this.
    Nonetheless, great video once again.

Speaking on the MB jerkbaits, the 110 Jr is great, but if you have bass chasing small bait fish, that X-Nanahan is really hard to beat. The trickdarter is a bit on the thick side at times though I like it too, but the X-Nanahan hits that sweet spot. It also comes in a standard and a +1. Try them you might be shocked.
On a day when bass are hitting jerkbaits, but the action is a bit slow, tjat X-Nanahan can make all the difference.
