  • This is the future of crankbait fishing! Don't miss the boat! Speed cranking is completely changing how anglers fish in the Fall and Winter! We used to think of the cold water months as slow periods but not anymore. Grab a speed crank, a high speed reel, and burn up that cold water! Let's go!!
The concept of triggering a feed response in a bass is not new, but the reality of being able to do it in the coldest water temperatures of the year is amazing! Winter fishing is a lot more fun when you're burning a bait instead of finesse fishing. Not only will this method of fishing catch bass all Winter, it is capable of catching the biggest bass in the lake!
Below you'll find a breakdown of the exact baits, colors, hooks, and equipment we use to fish these baits effectively. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

Burn burn burn pause, with your designed bait, got me in to tenth place on amateur side at Havasu‘s Won Bass Open this year, on the second day of the event. I could have probably won the Tournament but my last day partner had no water, and we were blind because his maps didn’t work.
We were still able to crank up two nice fish that kept me in check range.
The second day of the tournament, was magical, I put four fish in the boat within an hour and a half, and my pro put two in the boat. I was able to cull one in the last few minutes of the tournament. We had no fish in the boat before that and got it all done in an hour and a half.
My 7“ Daiwa Tattula was overpowered by my high speed Corrado. I had to drop down in gear ratio to get it done. I believe I needed a longer heavier crank rod to handle the higher speed reels.
Thank you Matt, and Tim for designing these baits.
    Great video.

Up here in the north you can catch them even colder than 37 speed cranking. There has been multiple times where most of the lake was already frozen and the lake was literally freezing around my boat and I could still catch them speed cranking. When it’s that cold it’s one of the only things you can actually catch them on.

You’re being a little modest on when to crank your DD75. Middle spring I was speed cranking bridge piers and wearing them out for over 2 hours. 4to 1
Lbs. over 40 bites this spring. All suspended rotating to different piers every 15 -20’minutes.

I use the megabass flap slap diving. I wanted to speed crank but my water isn't over 10 ft so I needed a 7-8 ft bait. I've caught 7 pounders in less than 2 feet of water jerking it but it gets down to 8 ft and has a fast rise so it backs out of cover really good.

Great video (as usual) and I just wanted to add to the round bend hook points convo... I have found that sickle point hooks (inward bend) that with mini tube jig fishing that because they often slap at it like you mention that I will miss MANY strikes... but when I can finally hook one on the sickle hooks that the hook STAYS in and even often times I need pliers to get the hook out... I'd suggest these hooks for fishing applications where you NEED the hook to stay in and not pop out and the fish are not slapping at your bait... other than that I stay far away from these kinds of hooks.

Some of the best "thinking out of the box" fishing, comes from this channel. I absolutely love the information and explanations. When I'm in a slump, i always remember to change things up, as you have suggested. I'm no pro or accomplished angler, I'm winging it like alot of guys(and gals) do, but because of this channel i never feel out of ideas. Don't get me wrong, i do have bad days where the bite never comes, after hours of trying. I just feel more equipped with ideas because of you fellas.
2024 can't come quick enough, ive set my sights on hitting it hard and often. Been doing more outfitting myself than getting out there, since mid September. Come spring fishing here in Michigan, I'm confident I'll have better gear, thats more style specific, to get the action better tuned in with what I'm throwing. Prior to September 2023, i was always a one or two rod/reel, from Walmart. Never paying attention to what I'm throwing on whatever rod. If i could tie something on, it was fine. NOW i know braid and Fluorocarbon use, proper test strengths, matching rods to styles and why i need them for the different baits. Won't even get into the bait selections...lol
All in all, thank you thank you for all the clinics you guys have put on. Tight lines my fishing fiends.

Hi matt I love watching your videos, tactical bassin is a great channel. Unfortunately in england we dont have bass, do you think these tips would work for northern pike/muskie and european or yellow perch. Randy blaukat seems to think that all predators (underwater) have the same responses, id be really interested in your thoughts on that. A good angler in england has mentioned that european perch have similiar feeding habits to smallmouth bass. Do you think there is much difference between largemouth and smallmouth(would you use different tactics to target the two species), also would speed cranking work for smallmouth and also your yellow perch. Thanks in advance if you do respond, take care and tightlines greetings from england 👍

If you have it, you can. But no, we developed this method long before anyone had live. You can cover so much water because of the speed that it's effective either way.

Matt, either y'all need to change how you identify the rods you are recommending, or the TW website needs to change the ID in their charts. For example, you said you recommend the Levante Flat Side Special rod for some speed cranking shallow. Sadly, the website doesn't label those rods with that designation. Y'all are gonna lose sales unless you change up the narration, the description in the comments, or the website.

What’s up brother. 🤫I’m not Matt 🤫but yea you can use it on bigger DDC’s also I love a magnum square bill with heavy 2X-3X hooks. That’s just MY PERSONAL OPINION and how I fish I don’t set the hook I side lean and crank and something run mono with a 4’ FC leader on it. And only throw 1/2oz-5/8oz or bigger. But you can play with it and see what is best for how an where you fish. 🙏🏼🤙🏼 hope that helps you some to start dialing in. Go hammer some brother and have a safe fall winter spring out there 🙏🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼

Not possible to know EXACTLY...depends on alot of factors....that's where skills comes into play, instead of FFS....I start with a deep diver, trying to dig the bottom...if I see fish suspended a little off the bottom, I continue to go shallower..example...strike king 10xD...if im hitting bottom & fish appear a little off the bottom? 8xD...fish look suspended in the middle column? 6XD and so on...that's the challenge of bass fishing...you vs fish, not FFS vs Fish

So to catch bass speed cranking, we have to order a handful of Megabass cranks because those are the only ones that will work. That what you’re saying? I get it they are the best, but the ONLY? Come on man.
