Totally agree with gasi ,These guys that think you just jump on a dirt bike and ride bush trails, are not in the right mind set, They had no skills, lack of confidence, and they got hurt because of it, I think the fine print should read , Please don't attend this ride if you can't jump logs ,ride over boulders in creeks, and steer in a straight line up hills 😂😂😂 Great trails clean, no ruts and over covered 👌 Would hate to go to War with a couple of those blokes, they just gave up and dropped their bikes, could have done more damage, then shit hits the fan ,great work you got them out of there 👏 👍
It's called an adventure bike ride for a reason. These are the rides you'll tell your mates about, and the ones that you'll never forget. Good on you for giving those guys that experience I say.
You're a very patient man Shonky Sean. I've learnt from experience to only open rides to FB pages when I've ridden the tracks and know they're 'easy' because I can't help but feel liable when people find it too challenging and fall off. The tracks looked like good fun tho

i ran into this myself in the past and had to get folk out of really shi77y endings - now i ensure riders who come with me are fully aware of what they may encounter and especially if i am scouting the unknown and they are joining - being vague helps nobody and TBH i would rather scare folk off than have them become a massive liability to themselves and ultimately me who they look to as their carer rather than group leader, it is a strange roll at times having to look after grown men, it is great dragging folk past their comfort zone and watching them conquer mental and physical torture and i do like to challenge my teams but i also like them to be bike ready and have the necessary skills to at least get so far. BIKE SKILLS and BIKE FIT people, get after it and help yourself to help others. Great video fella 🙂 Ozzy riding so much different to ours

The level of your patience is unbelievable. In a very good way of course. You did what had to be done even if it was not exactly as you may have wished. You are a true gentleman and a great guy. Your attitude all through the ride is the kind of thing I show my kids as an example of how to be. That is how I was raised. So uplifting to see it done with serene patience and grace.
😅Been watching a lot of KLR 650 videos ..where they are taken on serious style single tracks , there are guys who if you watch them …you can see a pattern …they go hard and keep momentum . These guys who fall off regularly , need to watch people who don’t fall off …mainly it’s because in tighter challenging up hills …they keep charging …keep the revs up ..keep their weight forward . Going easy up challenging hills and over big logs …just stalls most bikes .
Here is the perfect example ..of why to ignore those taller riders who dismiss lowering the seat height of tall bikes. If you can’t touch the ground in slow tricky situations when you are about to stall …you go down. I have a 200 kg plus 2016 KLR 650 … with lowered suspension . You can get away with a tall seat height if the bike only weighs around 100 kg to 140 kg max if you can’t touch the ground …..anything heavier being able to stabilise the bike at stall brink speeds is a must . In my opinion if you can’t touch the ground on any heavy bike it’s a disaster waiting to happen. Gees I miss my Yamaha TT 230 …it weighed 106kg from memory …oodles of torque and ground clearance ..would rev for days . Would leave the CRF 300 in its dust and mud on tight trails and fast tracks . Another thing to consider is turning your bike around on a steep downhill or uphill section ..you know is going to end in disaster if you proceed . Have you tried getting off a KLR 650 on uneven terrain and pushing it backwards without falling off? It’s just doeable on a shortened KLR at 5 ft 7 . Would really love the new Honda CRF 450 RL coming soon …but it’s 940mm seat height 139 kg …my KLR 835 mm seat height 200kg approximate . But I know I could manoeuvre and pick up the Honda …after tipping over😅.

Nice vid, worth grading your rides... even a guess might have helped old mate. No doubt your duty of care is there, some might not have gone based on your rating. I'd preride with a select few before opening up a ride to the masses. Will be watching with anticipation, any closer id tag along.
I do believe it was not a matter of over ambition by old mate on the ktm adventure, but rather that his ambition far outweighed the bike he was on. had he have been on a lighter more enduro setup bike he probably would have fluked it through a few of those drops he had. Good on you for showing positivity.
@ShonkyProductions I know this feeling all to well! My WR came in at around 36' and my inseam was 32' 😅 it is so easy to remove the lowering link and try to use the more appropriate geometry but for that type of riding, paddling your legs is very much a must. One dislocated knee would advise me anyhow 😅
Holy crap😮 they were not trails for beginners. The way the 690 rider bailed off the bike at the first water crossing😮 I was thinking you knew the route and it got easier after that but holy crap, baptism of fire for the newbie’s. They really need a year on a dirt bike before attempting anything like that 😅
2 broken ribs and a collarbone issue, I can understand why old mate was struggling a bit. I led a couple ADV rides some time ago. Not so keen these days simply because of the varied skill level and feeling responsible when people hurt themselves. I had a bloke break his leg on one of my rides 😞
Yes, it's always a concern. I feel torn as I want to share adventure with others and help them improve, but you do feel responsible if someone gets injured. Luckily he had the right attitude and is keen to get back into it.

"The top's gotta be just there " . LOL. How many times have we heard that said ? Too be fair, if you're going to lead a ride you have to accept some responsibility for others. Sure , it might have compromised the ride a bit, but l'd much rather see riders help each other out than not. We've all been ' that rider ' at some point in our lives and we've all been helped by others . Good on you for helping old mate out. Would have been nice to see one or two of the other more experienced riders getting involved also. Just because someone isn't the lead rider doesn't mean they can't pitch in and help others doing it hard. lf old mate continued to ride with broken ribs then he is an absolute legend in my book. Looks like he toughed it out where many others would've given up. Hopefully he can watch the video and improve his skills by comparing his riding to the more experienced . Same bikes, same track, same obstacles etc. You've probably done him a big favor by filming him actually. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.

The trouble when a bit older I/we can get exhausted and then start not controlling the bike well and picking bad lines, then throw a "heavy" bike in on top of that, spells trouble.
Good effort to get through that track but I dont enjoy that riding at all . Far too much effort for little gain of enjoyment. … and not flowing riding. You need a nice little lightweight 2 stroke for that crap.😆

Definitely correct with lowering links and heavy bikes... really any bike as without your feet reaching the ground, it will always end in a drop.

Yes, I believe you are correct. He had just removed the lowering link from the rear suspension which made matters worse for his short legs!

In my defence... it was "cruisy" as the speed was slow and people had many opportunities for a lay down!
