Ben The Coin Geek
Old Pueblo Coin
That coin looks much nicer than a MS 61 PL.
We see these coins so often that we forgot that the coin is 144 years old. To try to put it into perspective, Rutherford B. Hayes was president, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1878_in_the_United_States
I'm Morgan hunting this afternoon and where better to look right 👍
Watching Ben play the crack-out game even back then 😊
A beautiful coin! I wish ngc and pcgs would start specifying what they see as cleaning on each particular coin. Would make it much easier for all of us.
Nope-- it's a scam process- they don't need to
They are better off in there safe spaces
That’s a beauty marked cleaned. You definitely got your $1000 worth
Was thinking 62-63
I was thinking 63 to
It looked better than a 61
Oh my, thought that coin very least a 63 , and PCGS had it Cleaned 🤔 , that's one of the reasons I quit on numismatics. Thank you for what you do 🙂
More coins for me lol
@@kaynefryday6637 Buy high and sell low, was my motto 🤪😳😁👋
That is a beautiful Morgan. Glad you got a win there. Thanks for sharing it with us!
What??you should be mad that pcgs said it was cleaned...whats messed up is the inconsistencies in the grading! Not someone questioning crappy grading.
Hi, Ben. CCs are the best. The PLs are good looking. *TYU*
What am I missing??Ms 61 pl is $550 but looks like they sell around $450-500. You paid $1050 in the cleaned PCGS. O.k. I just stopped and look up DMPL. Ms 62 dmpl (which is what it looks like) is $1050. I understand. The pl instead of dmpl is what robbed you. Great stuff brother. I really enjoy your content.
But what was the point? If a 62 DMPL is $1050 and he paid $1050 what was the possible upside. A possible 63 DMPL? I think that was a stretch to hope for. I also love the content just trying to understand this one.
It's vam 11 which makes a rarer coin than just a plain 78 cc
Looks better than a 61 to me. Send it in to CAC.
Beautiful coin! I’m learning a lot from you. Thank you!
I like it. At least it straight graded
Very nice coin like cc Morgans am starting to get into them hopefully on my next purchase will be a 1890cc or a 1878 cc..
That’s a nice one!
A success! Somewhat anyways
My grade was Ms62 with a strong Pl
Yes sir
Same here. DPL reverse and a PL obverse.
Really Ben, you have the patience of Job when it comes to these 3rd party graders. Maybe you just bury the angst well. It's a great coin... don't see how someone figured it was "cleaned" when that would be obvious on a mirror surface and, hey, it's not there! Someone had a questionable breakfast burrito at PCGS that morning.
That’s awesome , goes to show that you really know your stuff 👍
I think it is fairly graded in that NGC holder. You can split hairs but MS61PL is not a bad grade. Those scuff don't look like cleaning to me, but I can see why they would holder it details.
Probably the big cheek hit makes it 61 along with all the smaller marks.
Nice coin; too nice for my collection and I think you won this one.
Outstanding! 👍
I was thinking MS63 PL. Fooled me but a nice CC regardless.
I saw it as a 62-63 PL ..
Ben you really paid that much for a cleaned graded coin? I wish my LCS would pay that much for a cleaned coin in a holder.
PCGS and their cleaned, argh!
Can they put a star designation after the PL? Why isn't that a 63? What cleaning? What's the pop? It's a gem.
That coin would get a green bean.
MS61 PL for this coin has listed price of $550 on PCGS and $490 on NGC. I know you paid $1050 for it, but you listed it for $1299, more than 63+ money?
You correct...what am I missing? He paid $1050 when it was in a cleaned PCGS
Good on him , he could see the value and took a chance , what’s wrong with that .
No CC straight graded is selling at list price in current market
The reason it’s so high is because of the VAM variety.. it sheets at $1155 in MS62 so I mean it’s priced is the the relative hemisphere but the thing is that it’s already been designated as a cleaned coin by a top grading company lol… I just don’t agree with coin grading and the grading companies in any sense unless the coin is an absolute top of the line rarity
@@TS1r731 Ah, that'd do it, but I agree, it was once considered a problem coin and might be priced a grade or two higher than was given.
61 is awful. The cheek is a 64 or low 65. It looks like they graded hard on the marks in the fields, even though it's prooflike. This is an instance where the grading companies need to make notes describing how it makes the grade and why it's not higher or lower, depending on the coin. This has to be the best looking 61PL ever graded!
Nice !
Before I saw the grade I was betting on an MS 63 PL
It's really hard to judge a coin's reflective surface because of the plastic. Often I can't judge where one stops and the other starts.
What on earth did PCGS see on this coin that would give it a Details - Cleaning grade???
I'm British and more used to Victorian & earlier .925 coinage so Morgans aren't my field but I was wondering the same thing...
I’m thinking the cheek?
PCGS is tough sometimes.
@@silverdrillpickle7596 Yes there is quite a long scratch on the cheek, running from the middle of the nose in a line towards 5 o clock. Doubt it's from cleaning but it would probably put me off from buying it.
Comment down below.
Nice coin, I think it is a 62 PL
Wow, 61 seems harsh.
Looks like a Diver Down flag. They should call it a VAM Halen! 🤣
I snatched up a 1878 cc Ms 65 pl vam 11 in undesignated old 1980s old brown and a ms64pl new brown Vam 11 undesignated and also a 1878 cc Ms 64 undesignated Vam 11 cac
Aka the Zorro Vam that Zorro left his mark on the die they do hold premiums just sold a 1878 cc Vam 11 ms65
Looks like a 62 Scarface
I'm happy for you, but that upgrade is absolutely ridiculous and should never happen. I hope you try to get it CAC'ed to complete the absurdity.
I thought it was a pl63
ngc say's 490 on this coin
PCGS calling that cleaned is ridiculous. They should have to give a explanation of why they think that if they want to get paid. I'd call in a charge back for failure to provide the advertised service.
The only thing that is going to force these TPGs to add a short explanation to Details grades is a Bud Light type pushback.
@@flower2289 Hit em with a charge back on your CC.
Cleaned Unc Details = Too far behind to met my daily coin grading work assignment. More proof corporate coin grading is highly subjective.
Clearly, "video grading" is not optimal. I was guessing for 62 and never saw evidence of cleaning. 🤷♂️
Please 63+ all day. Grading companies today are very inconsistent as there are 25 graders --- you just got a sleepy guy that just quickly slapped on a number.
So you would resubmit- and pay again
I hate when people crack out coins it screws with the pop numbers...
Hate is such a strong word , so much hate 😞
Both grading services pay $.50 per label if you return them to help update the pop numbers but many people (like me) do not send them in.
