- The Liberator has been a favourite amongst modellers for years, so the news that Airfix would be releasing a new kit in 1/72 was greeted with some enthusiasm. I take a quick look at this brand-new kit for those keen to buy and build it, for their own collections. Let the fun begin!

Hopefully, they may a coastal command soon. Can’t wait to get my hands on it
Hi Spence. The rear turret clear parts Z6 and Z7 were easy to mask off with Parafilm M and a new scalpel blade loaded as it happened. No caffeine for 24 hours prior and no sex during the masking itself is particularly important to mention too. I guess most folks though will park theirs for kabuki pre-cuts to appear but Parafilm M worked seamlessly throughout on mine.
As far as weight goes, the solution that would skin the tail sitter issue easily is to have white metal copies of the bomb aimer's floor F5 and the .50 cal feed boxes, chutes and nose turret mounting disc F6. I made a false bulkhead tub behind the IP (it's invisible in the finished model) and loaded it and A21 to the gunnels with lead shot and it jointly came to 30 grams - 25grams short.
The boarding ladder is made slightly overlong by Airfix to prop up the back end - I notice the Airfix builds on their web site both have the ladder in play which may or may not indicate a weight shortfall. Painted and finished white metal copies of the parts I mentioned would be indistinguishable in finished models and would certainly tip the balance (see what I did there)...
Anyway, as a plastic test pilot, I always much look forward to seeing everyones production kits being subsequently nailed together, their opinions and experiences and so on. Happily they're already queueing up on You Tube and else where, so happy days!
Wish you well with yours. 🙂
Thanks for the preview Spencer. Re the nose weight, check parked up B-24's, it wasn't unusual to see oil drums/ammo boxes etc wedged under the rear fuselage bumper - it was a bit of a tail sitter IRL!
Airfix does it again! This one is really tempting me to buy yet another model to add to my stash 😂 I've always been a champion of the B-24. Like the Hurricane to the Spitfire, B-24 has always been the poorer relation to the B-17. However, it served on all fronts and in different roles. Just never got the press as the B-17 did. Sorry for going on so long, thanks for posting.
It appears all the turrets can be installed after painting. Great design.
Got one on Pre-Order here in the States and looking forward to this kit that I am building for a local Museum in my area.
Outstanding Airfix. A proper B-24H. Loads of variants on the horizon. USAAFD & J, RAF and Coastal Command Liberator III, V etc. This looks to be better than the 2007/08 Hasegawa kits. Well done Airfix! Good episode Spencer!
I've built the Airfix B-25, and B-17G, and I'm so excited they've built a B-24 to add to this collection. Thanks for the review, I can't wait to get one of these for myself :)
At 13:21: one thing I do on my models is stick down the upper half of the wing to a sheet of glass using double-stick tape, then cement the other half in place. Let the glue set, then remove from the glass. That ensures the flat and straight wing that is needed. Before taking up that method I had a few "banana" wings that were a beeyotch to straighten out.
This is a fantastic kit. Received mine yesterday gave it a quick look over, really like the quality and in a dark styrene ❤❤❤❤
Looks great. On my 2024 build list for sure.
Nice job Spencer! I also agree.... the B-24 looks a little ungainly sitting on the ground, but in the air she is a beauty ....
Got mine in the post today from Airfix, What a brilliant kit it is
Nice to see better packaging and even more important better plastic!
Nice one mate, good video on such a good bomber, well done mate and well done Airfix.
I noticed that Airfix having taken a great idea from Bandai by the way the sprues letters are clearly labeled. I am so glad you are finding time to do videos. I missed you. ❤
On order & arriving next week. Looking forward to this 👍👍😎😎
And the nose & tail turrets are not in halves. No seam across the clear tops.🤗
Finaly! I have been waiting for you to do this!
Really good that Airfix do a wheels up choice for some of their models, including this B24...personally I think it looks much better in flight than on the ground
Great looking kit. I'll be checking my regular stores for availability here in the Wild West Prairie of Canada!
Oooh - can't wait for the box opening.
Looks like a great kit
interesting idea to mold the guns with the clear parts! Never seen that before.
Hi Spencer that was a excellent going over of the B-24, I have always thought it was a nice aircraft, just big and solid, I have now subscribed to your channel, best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia, Les
Kit looks really nice. No aircrew though.
I love your style of outboxing. No gloves or re-bagging. Just get in there. Thank you.
Dont hold your breath on the markings Spencer I have just completed two sheets for Xtradecal with lots of interesting options within ;)
Great review of this kit..Airfix are improving all the time and that’s good to see..Not normally a 1/72 builder..But saying that I’ve got all the V-bombers and two B-29’s in 1/72..This B-24 does interest me a lot..Does Airfix give you the choice to build it wheels up for us who wish have them inflight..Thanks again for a great video and all the best👍
The guns moulded into the glass looks daunting.
Great looking kit though.
Already have the decals to make "Nine Yanks and a Jerk". Not quite the right model, but close enough for me.
I bloody love your videos Spencer. Keep em coming buddy... I wonder what the third kit was??
Does it mean that just 25 grams will keep the front wheel on the ground? Hasegawa needs 90g.
The Liberator Davis wing is possibly one of the most beautiful aviation wings ever designed. However, when it came to the tail planes it looks like the designers had used up all their inspiration! Looks like Dumbo's ears! A nice looking kit much better plastic by the looks than the horrible soft stuff they were using. Not one on my wish list simply as not enough room and have already built the Hasegawa one.
It would show up smack in the middle of an expense filled month. 😢 Definitely going to build one, but I’ll have to wait awhile longer before adding this to the stash.
Presumably 'gills' are cowl flaps.
Interesting.
Looks great. A must buy.
Can she be built gear up?
Saw another build review, and answered my own question. Yes she can be build gear up…thanks Airfix.
Now please kit a 1/32 F6F Hellcat!!
This kit was only announced on 9th Jan as part of the Airfix 2024 programme. So kudos to Airfix for getting the kit to market so soon after announcing it.
Great first look.
No Ford window on that nose?
No pilots or crew?
Мечта...а не модель...в России больше 100 $ стоит.😢
