- Merry Christmas guys!!!! This year, there’s nothing more than we could wish for ourselves than being reunited with Polar Seal in time for Christmas.
After flying from Spain, isolating ourselves at our friend’s farm in Sweden for two weeks, taking a (negative) covid test 48 hours before flying and a full day in an airplane, we made it back to Curacao and Polar Seal.
We spend the holidays isolated on an island where we know nobody, far away from our families and as for many of you, this year didn’t bring the type of Christmas celebration we would normally wish for, but it is the best nonetheless. Given the circumstances, we feel enormously blessed to be where we are, to be healthy, and to celebrate in the comfort of an apartment with AC.
This year, it doesn’t get any better than that and we’ll enjoy every second of it :)
2020 has been quite an adventure for us as sailors and RUclips creators, and we are so happy to end it on a happy note!

Merry Christmas. Was laughing as I have a similar list. $60 for that shaft seal (arrived this week) from Beneteau. Rudder is sitting downstairs, needing bushing epoxy repairs and paint. Difference is it is a LOT warmer where you are (jealous). Enjoy the Air Conditioning.
If there's anyone I can think of that needs the Iridium it's "Adventures of an Old SeaDog".

That and somebody to help him with some proper sails. I know he floats about in an old claw foot tub, but hull speed can't be that slow can it? Don't get me wrong, I love Barry to pieces. Happy New years!
@@carlthor91 Yep we are all armchair sailors now :-( and were so missing that salty stuff - all our training got thrown overboard - heaven knows when this will get back to normal. Wishing you all the best out there for 2021.

Rudder Bearings - It the looks you have the same rudder setup as I have on my boat. When I bought it it seemed we had some play in the bearings, they were fine. What had happened was the sleeve holding in the bearings had come loose from the mounting, appears Beneteau used to epoxy them on, so this was a problem from about 2002-2005, the sleeve was turning in the mounding rather than the brass bearing. By luck/chance I booked the boat into the same yard that was originally contracted to fix the problem and knew all about it. I have no idea how mine did not get the issue fixed at the time. Anyway the fix was to epoxy the sleeve back on but also install grub screws to stop the sleeve turning. I had this done 4 years back and all is still good.
Did you have to do the PCR-test to go to Netherlands or to Curacao?

I am a 200!!" ... me - yup that's Sophie running at mach 4, nothing is a obstacle, just a minor speed bump that Ryan will make sure that it is safely navigated and both are always moving forward .... happy for the two of you, splash time will be upon you sooner than you think .... happy days and happy new year ..... as always .. never stop dreaming, just dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans ....
Wow .. I can feel your excitement to be back at the boat/home again. It will be interesting to follow coming vid creations, and for sure they will be enjoyable as always.
We left our boat there for a month just about where Polar Seal was. Do they still have the picnic area near the offices where cruisers get together for sundowners. There was a small chandlery next to the office. I remember how hot it was there but not too dissimilar to our time in Venezuela. Enjoy! We love Curaçao.

I just replaced my shaft seal in my Jeanneau 54DS...had the same volvo shaft seal you have. I highly recommend the PSS shaft seal. best ever! We also did mounts at the same time

So great to see you both back home on Polar Seal. All the best for 2021. We hope to meet up one day on the water. We are wintering in Turkey and then Sicily next winter before our own crossing of the Atlantic at end of 2022 on board our Amel Super Maramu. We hope to purchase a Iridium Go for reliable weather and routing information and communications.

You can be glad you left your boat in a fairly dry climate that Curacao has. I have seen cruisers returning to their boats in the Pacific and South East Asia and what they found back was disgusting to say the least. Happy for you both! BTW Great to see the island where I grew up. Haven't been there for 22 years....

Regardez quelques documentaires a la télévision. Le journaliste montre le sujet, pas sa face. Quel est le point de vous montrer pendant 1 minute et disant tout est en ordre dans montrer ce qui est en ordre. Bon exemple, l'extrait sur les travaux a réaliser où on voit ce qui doit être fait et non celui qui va le faire

Hi Guys, I have just finished watching ALL of your videoblogs. Very nice job on the videos. Very nice to see your skills and confidence grow. Thank you for all the wonderful tips. I have a couple questions for you two. 1. Did you consider mounting your solar panels on the arch rotated 90 deg, so you could put more panels up? 2. I understand that most solar panels do not produce their full potential. What percentage of actual power are you getting versus the rated power? 3. What turned out to be the problem with your spinnaker ( jenniker) sock? 4. Can you suggest a list of spare parts to keep on board?
1. I did consider it but it added a bit too much complexity for us at the time. 2.our bug panels are 310 watts, at peek time we might see 290 watts but I would plan maybe 250 watts at peek sun. 3. The halyard chafed on the detector and snapped. I'm not exactly sure how to fix this long term 4. I can do this on our website in the near future. Ryan
