  • @ianmckay954

    A wee tip that works for me... Do not put your foulie trousers inside your boots, the water will run down the material into your boots making your feet wet and cold and it will seep into the rest of you - warm feet, warm soul! Keep the trouser outside the boots and if it is hard to achieve consider some elasticated gaitors to cover the interface between boot bottom and trouser. Not even a wave will fill your boots then.
    Also, stating the obvious with hindsight, take some seasick treatment before you leave early on in the season regardless of whether or not you get sick usually - it is just one less thing to worry about - a la Sophie perhaps!
    Cheers for sharing the warts and all - great series.

    You guys have come such a long way in your sailing confidence. This voyage would have been a big deal when you first started sailing, now it is mildly less than ideal, at worst!

    I smiled when I saw you handling the jib sheets alone. I’ve never seen a woman jibe so expertly.

    "Nervousity" would be a great name for a sailboat... or a punk band, I guess.

      @RyanSophieSailing  5 лет назад

      We can name Ryan’s one-man ukulele band “nervosity”. That wouldn’t be quite accurate, but I guess the punk movement was all about irony, right? 😂

    Ryan,, deep breaths brother! In Hi Seas & shit weather, if the boat isn't sinking then it does not need fixing, just relax and sail, people have been doing it for hundreds of years without the techno stuff, as an electronics engineer i understand the love and dependence of nav systems, just don't let if steal your joy of the sail!

    Hi Sophie. Would love to know what patches you are using for preventing sea sickness. Well impressed with your seamanship skills. Can understand how Ryan was feeling. Been there before and it’s not nice

      Hi Seamus! I use Scopoderm (patches of Scopolamine). They are a prescription drug, so you need to see a doctor to get some :)

    I keep hearing bad things about Beneteau boats. I love the look of them and the modern amenities. Have you noticed that after time your boat tends to fall apart and you are fixing it more than other brands? Everyone I know says no way, however, I can’t help but want one. Fill me in. Thank you.

    Did you figure out your chart plotter problem - there was a gps calendar roll over in early april - my simrad needed an update to start to get position info again.

    Stow everything before you cast off. Dont believe them when they say the rain never happens like that, I lived there for 8 years , January to mid May is the spanish rainy season EVERY YEAR. I had an Oceanis 390 (purchased new in 1989)

      Yeah, we realized how misinformed we were about the Med 😂 just joking, we’d been warned. But we had a lovely winter before that rainy week!

      I love the realness of you shows. How you two deal with your reality. These videos need to be longer if at all possible. Just the dwelling, long sea shots and sounds are great. You feel like your there. Thank You for your tremendous effort.

      Thanks John! Glad you like it :) we keep the videos under 20 minutes as much as we can, cause our RUclips audience prefers that format and it helps us to grow. We do publish long edits of our videos on Patreon regularly though, and those can be up to 30 minutes! /Sophie

    Going beyond your comfort zone adds spice to life. Life is too short to be luke warm all the time, but it should be done in measure and safely. I also differentiate between an adrenaline junkie and going beyond your comfort zone. Love your videos, I wish my wife would let me buy a sail boat, but!

    • @RyanSophieSailing
      @RyanSophieSailing  5 лет назад

      Thanks Robert! I can certify I am no adrenaline junky, especially not at sea 😆 but now and then, different conditions can be a good learning experience. It’s especially nice when going out of the comfort zone is a choice, as opposed to all of a sudden finding yourself in a storm with no warning!
