Okay. So I practiced this in all 12 keys for minor, dominant and major chords according to the progression for 4 weeks. The next thing I know I had 36 chords under my hands. So I tested my facility and grabbed the chords for Bluesette. I was playing the chords without even thinking about it. Wow! Not bad! Thanks Amimee!

I like the Jazz piano 101 idea. It's probably boring for you, but helpful for those starting out. Thank you

Where were you 900 years ago when I was young? I could have been a contender! I could have been somebody! 😂

Reflecting on the past comments, I agree. I "played by ear" from a young age of around 5 and took lessons for years, but never learned anything about chord progressions, 3rds, 7s, anything along those lines, so I was stuck just reading sheet music, which wasn't fun and never really clicked in my brain to the point that I could just look at music and play it, or just picking out notes and simple chords from songs I'd heard.

Today I dug up an A4 sized book by Ray Santisi a lecturer from Berklee. It’s called Jazz Piano. And it’s got a CD With it. 5 lead sheets inside but also an array of 57 exercises and a most on the CD with it. Contemplated starting to go through it. It seems a good way to go because it covers all the things I set about learning. It’s good having something based to use at this stage. Been doing a 3 month focus thing. It’s going well one month down. 2 to go if God is willing, really want to conquer this. I used this book in the past to learn to play bass runs and it really imparted that from the chapter I went through. I remember seeing this book in a music store with reference to the author being teacher of many big names like Keith Jarrett and Diana Krall so I purchased it for a resource book but only did the one chapter on left hand bass technique. Finding it right now is very timely because of needing to bring it all together. It was happening but this will provide focus. The forward in the book says that those he taught progressed very quickly which is what marked his methods as top. It’s by Beklee press called berklee jazz piano RAY SANTISI.

Your videos have assisted me vocally. So now jazz piano! I'm a vocalist and pianist already but constantly looking for new ideas and help. I want to play a hymn now and then for Special Music at church. I ad lib and improvise, but not with jazz chords. Come teach me and I'll teach you heavy construction in return! I understand 7ths and will try using them. Not sure yet how to use 2 5 1's in a non jazz song. Thanks. Wow, you are talented and a great teacher. I can pick things up really quickly by listening and viewing.

Aimee your You Tube page is excellent. I am an upright bass player. I bought 11-V-1 and One Exercise- All chords and My Baby Just cares PDF sheets.I can play chords in root position and also ii V 1 chords by moving a few notes. I want to be able to play rootless chord voicings and the melody of standards more efficiently. Are there other videos and sheets that are similar to add to learn rootless chord voicings on your page? I think it is also a matter of memorizing the chord voicings and melody and not look at the Real Book and the sheets of music I am printing from you. When I am playing bass and not as familiar with a tune, just looking at the chord changes is not as complex as on the piano that is including reading the melody and the chords.

Ah hell yeah! Thank you. A place to start is, sometimes, all a person needs. Even if you don't make a full beginners series, a "start" along with application really helps open the jazz world up.
