1:29 this is LITERALLY HOW I LEARN THINGS! I can’t read music (i play by ear) so clear visuals in-place is how i learn. The green keys visual is ❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Adam (and OS team), you've absolutely nailed the 'practice with me' format; the ones you were putting out through the pandemic were fantastic, and now with this level of production and live drumming is a game changer. Very excited to see more like this and with subjects applicable to other instruments (lines/phrasing/playing changes etc). If this is a glimpse of what you have locked up in Open Studio then you're in grave danger of getting a new member!
Perfect lesson: Beat throughout keeps flow and curiosity, friendly and engaging explanation, transparent visualization, layered content with segmented delivery for practice. Not to forget high quality sound & video.
clicked on this lazily at first but the hype comments encouraged me to stay and hoooooiieeeee i was not disappointed. EXCELLENT teaching format / style!! a student’s dream!!
I've played since I was 5 yrs old, always want to learn more jazzy styles (pretty chords) in my professional gigs (just the easy ways, I'm good BUT too busy with life to become like chick corea or something)... I'm 53 now and this progression made me drool. :) keep learning, moving forward. this guys great, he gets it, we don't care about the theory, just show us the groove and chords and we can take it from there. love it.
Love it. Now gotta see how you switched when you played licks.. left hand was great - looked like it handled the most important notes in the chord. Bravo!
Okay, this is sick. I'v been playing by ear and using chord charts for years, and can hold my own fairly well. It's sickening the ever so slight variation of tones opens a new world of sound. Darn, really thinking about joining up with this guy.
64, played all my life, but learned only to read music (notes). Timing; well, I love improv because I can’t read that. But with recent time and work that’s getting better. I want to loose the sheet music and just be free. Really appreciate your time and talents and sharing your knowledge. Thank you!
So many "beginner tutorials" fail to explain these concepts in a way that is accessible too the uninitiated. Your teaching style on the other hand is very beginner-friendly.
Fire. I love the production on this video. Very well done. Another fun progression to play is E-9b5 // A7b9b13 // D-9 // G13b9 Cmaj9. Bass notes in LH, RH has G-maj7, G-7b5, Fmaj7 Fdimmaj7 E-7.
This was awesome!!! I love these videos…sometimes I have to listen to the over and over to catch some of the principles, they are phenomenal!!!! These guys are so good!!’
Thanks I thank you sincerely for the brilliant content. I however have an interesting question, bordering on the philosophical, here goes 1) What defines a chord a being a Jazz Chord as opposed to just a chord? can an ordinary major chord sound lile a Jazz Chord if it juxtaposed against another chord in a really unconventional or unique way? Can jazz chords be defined as such in isolation, or is it more to do with chord juxtaposition in general. Sorry for all the questions.
Hi. Love everything about OS, which is why I'm trying to correct a mistake. The 6th bar chord "maj9" is in every scale is probably not the correct symbol, since it's the same voicing as the 2nd bar chord maj9(13) in every scale. In fact the bar 6 chord in D maj key, labeled as Gmaj9 has the exact same notes as bar 2 in Cmaj labeled G9(13). Minor issue. Happy ThanksGiving!
This is the way to get your audience ..super simple yet super cool. Nice job ;) you want to take this to the next level …give them a backtrack loop to practice . They need to relate to something at the beginning.
I realized thinking about the 7b13b9 is easier if you think a chord minor7b5 + 1 step above the root note, so in this case its just gminor7b5 on top and A on the bottom which is one step above G
Warren Macphearson just released a whole video on this dominant b9 chord yesterday. If you want the b13 play a min7b5 a whole step below the root. If you just want the b9, play a dim 7 a whole step below the root.
If I got one of the many ideas, you can get tension and release just by clustering and opening the voicing? I’m late coming to this party but it’s fun just seeing this stuff. Wow.
this is literally the best produced piano tutorial I’ve ever seen
RIGHT!?
Agree 💯
Completely agree. First time on the channel too!!❤
This!
why?
the art of modern teaching
And they’re smashing it👌👌
more like the art of modern torture... my ears bleed, feels like i´m dying from Jazz exposure ^^
The content somehow gets better and better
Practice makes perfect. 😂
They keep finding ways!
This is so peak. A stellar musician teaching their skills to an audience as if they were learning it for the very first time. THAT takes talent.
I mean, The quality of content creation in this video is next level! I can't believe what i'm just watching!!!
Will you please, with all my sprinkles, whipcream, choco chips, and a 1000 cherries on top. MORE OF THIS style of teaching in the beat. So cool!!
Yes, it’s a perfect exhibition of Adam’s ability to talk and play in time. Time never stops!
I've been looking for an onramp to jazz and i was able to watch this once and go right to the keyboard and begin. What a joy -- Wonderful!!

This is really great. Incredibly intuitive stuff. I will be directing my students to this.
Nice, simple approach to jazz comping. It would be cool if you could do a tutorial on that little improv you did at the end.

As a bass player this is heaven to play over
For the first time since I've been following you, your tutorial is covering something I already know and play fairly well! It's very reassuring!
So many "beginner tutorials" fail to explain these concepts in a way that is accessible too the uninitiated.

Awesome. Thank you. It feels like I’ve learned so much so quickly. Please tell your drummer Charleston thank you as well. Sounds great guys
Love these short educational content that caters to beginners and experiences musicians alike!
The production value on this one video is literally better than most shows on Netflix 😊
Thank you for teaching us “jazz dummies” in a way we can understand. Hope you do some more like this.

We need more videos like this! Absolutely incredibly put together
Great tutorial. 44 year old dad of 2 trying to wipe off the rust. Love to just play as a hobby. Such a fun lesson. Very helpful. Thank you!
Great video, not sold on the chords at all to be honest, but clear and easy to follow.
Thank you so much guys for all your videos, This video helped me to be able to improve in the accompaniments❤
As a complete beginner who started the piano solely to learn jazz on another instrument, this was extremely helpful, thanks a lot guys
I wish I’d had videos like this years ago, would’ve made the journey more colorful. Thanks guys
The video is AMAZING. Thank you guys so much!!! Can I ask what software you use for the midi piano? It looks great!
Super well presented lessons! Besides the chords themselfes, this was a great ear training because of the repetition!
That video was a work of art, the kind that brings you physical pleasure
Best ever! I play bass and this helps a lot to play chords on the bass
That got me humming along a melody right away. Gonna have to write that one down.
Amazing amazing amazing ✨
You're pushing the medium forward, Adam and team 🙏🙏
The first 4 chords actually happens to be the chord progression of roxanne by arizona zervas but on the key of C Major
More of these please! 🔥🔥🔥

y’all should make a part two on this explaining how to solo over it. the basic stuff.

Waiting for the most beautiful playlist from musics like this 🤩
Amazing tutorial. Thanks for the amazing content.
