- This is a novel technique for intensified pepper production by using vertical column concept. The technique ensures enhanced and sustainable supply of fresh pepper in a cost effective and eco-friendly manner. This is developed at ICAR-Indian Institute of Spices Research, Kozhikode, Kerala.

Yes, there is a tree, very large tree that grows peppercorns as well. The vining type grows in much hotter and much more humidity than the tree type. I’d offer the flavor of the vining type is much better too!

Concrete pepper posts are available in Virgo Industries Kothamangalam.High Density Planting and Monocropping can also be easily practiced using
the concrete pepper Posts. Within 10 cents of land, 100 PFP posts can be erected at a
distance of two meters apart for the cultivation of pepper vine. In the third
year, 300 Kg of Dry Pepper (i.e. 3 kg/ plant) can be reaped from 10 cents of
land. Here the berries are of increased size, weight and quality. (1000 PFP
Posts per acre = 3000 Kg)

Not ideal to use rice hay as it holds much less water and nutrient and having to re-soak while vertical might present some problems as well.
