These 7 year old videos are what I love seeing, they’re well put together, classic, no computer effects if any barley an intro, these older videos are indeed genuine
Love this video. So few out there on growing black pepper. Sounds so easy. I've been wanting to grow black pepper for a long time now, but just getting around to looking it up. Sounds like it will do well in FL. So prolific, and a bottle of peppercorns is upward of $5. Crazy U.S. market!
am so happy to see u guys sharing a lot of information about black pepper , i am from south india where these plants are native , i have around 5 plants in my home, they are grown around, mango trees and aracanut tree they grow nearly 4 meter in height, they need good amount of rainfall or good watering
Ashley Wills cuttings with developed roots are excellent propagating materials.do not try the seeds. You will water for many years before fruiting.black pepper is vine plant that thrives in mild tropics. 300 m up within equator zone is ideal for black pepper plants. Clayloam or loam soils are very good mediums. Volcanic soils are excellent.
I will certainly try this. I got the idea the other day and I did not even know what the peppercorn plant looked like. Now, after watching this video, it sounds like fun. :) Thank you for sharing!!
Great informative video and soothing voice. Thanks a bunch, I am a big fan of black pepper! I can eat it on its own, doesn't have to be a seasoning lol
A great video! Thank you. Over the years my husband and I have purchased a bunch of citrus plants from Logee's. We are outdoors in the summer and then indoors in winter. I'm wondering if you might consider doing a raising citrus video for your viewers! We so enjoy the lovely flowers scent during winter and spring! Any advice on keeping the plants healthy with fertilizing regiment (kinds of ferts, frequency...controlling scale...). Sometimes ours seem to get a little chlorotic looking...and the sooty mold can be a nuisance. Any advice and direction would be wonderful! Our Buddha's hand is enormous this year! Lol! Such a fragrant crazy fruit!
Hello! We offer many other articles and videos on our website. Here is some helpful information regarding growing citrus www.logees.com/growingcitrus. You can find our care sheets here: www.logees.com/media/care/pdf/Citrus.pdf
Very nice video.I was wandering in Logees website to order some stuff and happened to see pepper plants !! I am from the home of black pepper.Kerala, India. I always wanted to grow them here in Texas but had no idea I can find it here in US.Recently bush pepper ( we call it kutti kurumulaku) is very popular in kerala. In good old days we train the vine on huge trees like mango or jack fruit tree. But it was facinating to see families are growing high yielding bush variety in grow bags now !! I was wondering if there is a chance to get those here.I would have bring one if customs allowed 🙂
Nice!! I've bought a P. Nigrum today :D I'm very curious how it will grow here in Holland. I know other people here in Holland who succesfully grow P. Nigrum plants in their living room, but it isn't easy in our climate :p
I recently got a cutting and I'm going to repot it. I think that's why it's not doing much. I've got a grow light set up so why not keep a nice little peppercorn plant on the table too?
I love black pepper, and LOVE pink pepper. Mild flavor, but I live in Seattle. Not sure how it will do here, if a greenhouse is needed or grow it in a tent, or start it in a plastic bottle. Chili and bell peppers only produce a small yield here
How does this pepper compare in environmental needs, to pothos and citrus... ? .. or tomato plants? I have successfully over wintered all 3 in my greenhouse.
How worth it is growing your own in terms of taste vs store? Will you get same tasting quality of the stuff you grind yourself from the store, or will this even taste better?
Pepper plants do not do well in cold weather, although there are areas in South Florida where they do grow them - and of course they do get cold spells during the winter. But in central Florida they would probably not make it.
Ok,, Im at a loss here. At my home in California I had a Pepper Tree. Yes a tree. Trunk was about 2 feet in diameter,(3 1/2 feet at the base). Foliage was about 20-30 feet in diameter and about 25 feet tall. Real nice shade tree. It was there when I bought the house. The house was built in 1925 so I'm guessing the tree was planted about that time too. This tree had the same berries as your plant. Same smell and taste also. It did however have a smaller leaf. Can you explain the difference to me please?
Different plant. Schinus molle. As you mention it’s a tree. The true pepper Piper nigrum is a vine and tropical, it can’t take below freezing temperatures.
I think I it's more practical to grow this than a any kind of pothos, seems like they are similar in leaf shape and sort of a climber.. I've been to a pepper farm.once but I did not thought until now to grow them in containers 👍
Very interesting. I only recently learned that the red peppercorn is not from this plant which is ironic since you have to pick the seeds when they are red!
Since these plants need filtered light, would I be able to plant one at the base of a small palm and have it vine up the tree? Allowing for support and shade. Or would the roots fight with the tree for nutrients?
Piper nigrum is an understory plant that grows in the shade of trees and once it finds a tree, the vines climb up reaching for light . So yes, it should climb a palm. You do need warm temperatures above 60 though.
@@LogeesPlants Thank you for responding, that sounds great, I'll be planting it under that tree then. Would you be able to tell me why a few leaves on my plant are turning black/brown?

🥰👀
I agree. It's like the video equivalent of wikipedia. No interruptions and no distractions, just facts.
true. most new youtube content is souless and mostly clickbait garbage
These 1 year old comments are what I love seeing. Ripe, not early (like 4 or 5 months) and not too old, just right.

The fact that pepper is a dried fruit is blowing my mind right now

i wonder how this would hold up in NW Arizona.....might try it
Thanks for sharing, thats a lot of fruit from that container size.
Do they need a 2nd genetically different pepper plant pollination partner to make the fruit?
Nice!! I've bought a P. Nigrum today :D I'm very curious how it will grow here in Holland. I know other people here in Holland who succesfully grow P. Nigrum plants in their living room, but it isn't easy in our climate :p
very informative!! Thank you!!
Thank you! A lot of useful info i got there..
Thanks for the info chill man. Has my interest.
What good soil for black pepper?
Humus soil is good?
Thank you for your video.
From borneo island
We generally recommend a well-draining soil which is free from any sort of fertilizers.
Would love to try this. Wish I could buy more local. I am in western Canada. I have a year round plant space, that this would grow well on.
Internet black pepper nigrum.for sellers. Enjoy.😊
This is uziza seeds and leaves in Igbo part of Nigeria, we use both the leaves and seeds to make soups. Very healthy and delicious 😋
What a beautiful fruit
I recently got a cutting and I'm going to repot it. I think that's why it's not doing much. I've got a grow light set up so why not keep a nice little peppercorn plant on the table too?
Once picked how long should you let the peppercorns dry for until you can grid them? Great video as well, i love pepper so this should be fun to try.
Depends on the humidity where they are drying. 4-8 weeks if the humidity is low a little longer if the weather is damp
I love black pepper, and LOVE pink pepper. Mild flavor, but I live in Seattle. Not sure how it will do here, if a greenhouse is needed or grow it in a tent, or start it in a plastic bottle. Chili and bell peppers only produce a small yield here
I def want to grow one now
Mine got away from me. They are growing all over the back quarter of my yard.
Central Florida.
Question! Do the green peppercorn berries ripen on the stem even when the stem is cut off from the motherplant?
I would love to grow....nice info..!
Very nice video thank you
Hi thanks for this video
Thanks, there is nothing like fresh green pepper.
so where would someone see the prices for buying a black pepper plant ? or pepper plant?
+Eda Iyamu Here is a link to the pepper plants we sell here at Logee's -> www.logees.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=Piper+Nigrum
I love black pepper.
How tall do they grow?
Thanks for sharing
How long do you dry them for? And do they look wrinkly then? Cheers👍👍👍
Normally the fresh ground pepper is much better than the store bought.
Thank You, I'll try it.
I want to plant black pepper in zone 9a. Do you think if I plant and top/mulch it in the winter it’ll grow back in the spring?
Pepper plants do not do well in cold weather, although there are areas in South Florida where they do grow them - and of course they do get cold spells during the winter. But in central Florida they would probably not make it.

www.logees.com/media/care/pdf/Piper.pdf
I just may try to grow black pepper...Thx
Great video!! Thank you very much
Can you grow this in norther California outside without greenhouse
As long as your hardiness zone is a zone 10, you can grow it outdoors. Check your planting zone here: www.logees.com/hardinesszone
Very good vedio
I like Bush pepper farming
Id like to interview this guy in person.
Great
I live on Andros,do you think it would be a good idea to plant a couple of these here?Thank you
What's your zip code?
Sir i have a pepper plant and i have it in the garden and it take sun from the 6:00am to11:00am it place its good or ypu recomend chage the place
+Angelo Antolino Is this garden in a tropical area? They do prefer it warm 60 or higher. The morning light would be fine for growing.
Very interesting. I only recently learned that the red peppercorn is not from this plant which is ironic since you have to pick the seeds when they are red!
And I'm guessing the white peppercorns are from yet another variety. How interesting?
Very informative thank you
