May God bless Alan, Wayne and Jimmy...these "gentlemen" always gave it their "all"...wonderful talents, even better men...even though life for them has not always been fair, I forever wish for them NOTHING BUT THE BEST, because they were, and are, THE BEST!
I remember in 1980, Drury Lane London, the boys started their set with this song after Donny and Marie opened the show. The last night there, Merrill was absent for a lot of the show before returning home, Donny took his place. Later, after Merrill did his banjo spot Alan said for all to show how much we loved him and they sang, He aint heavy whilst all the cast and the family walked onto the stage to show their love and support as Merrill had to pull out of the tour and return to the U.S. A real show stopper and memorable moment.
Why did Merrill have to pull out of show? Why is he absent in this video? First time I’ve seen this video. I’m an Osmond Fan, have been since 1970, very talented wonderful Family who always worked so hard. I hope they are All enjoying their retirement. ❤️💙💜💚🧡🖤🩷👏👏👏👍🏼😊
@@DianeOliver-cu3kj Hi, it wasn't from this actual show, but one during the tour of april 1980. The Osmonds arrived at The Theatre Royal in London at different times. When Merrill arrived he shook hands with a number o us as he made his way to the step door during the afternoon. The first show was exactly as the one had been on the Saturday evening, but at the matinee, when Donny and Marie introduced the brothers, Merrill wasn't with them for the Resurrection Shuffle medley. Later with the 'I got the music in me' medley he appeared and did his banjo spot. Afterwards Alan said, 'You know, Tomorrow afternoon, Merrill is going back home to Utah, so lets show him how much we love him!' So of course there was screams and cheers as the band struck up into the chorus of, 'He aint heavy, he's my brother' as the rest of the family, dancers and I don't know who else came onto the stage, so many people. I saw Merrill wipe away tears as I doubt that this show stopping moment was going to happen. It really was a moving moment as he took his bows, wiping away the tears. I saw a headline the next day something like 'Ailing Osmond pulls out of tour'. I believe it was due to a heart problem. In one of the films about the Osmonds, I can't recall the name. In the scenes after they lose so much money, they are arranging to do a tour to make some money to help pay off some of the debts that they were left with. The actor playing Merrill then collapses and wakes up in hospital with the family around him. I believe that Donny writes a bit about the concert that evening in his book 'Life is just what you make it'. That afternoon, Donny arrived as they all had tried to, individually, to try and just get into a theatre door. But he was spotted and four girls were trying to pull him out of the doorway as he tried to lever himself in. I tried telling them that someone was going to get hurt, so aided Donny's entrance with a bit of a shove, that he broke into a trot as he broke free of the clutches. So I have a lot of memories of that day. Which was the last time I saw them all perform together until the 50th anniversary tour at Wembley Arena. I hope some of this information has helped and that you are able to follow up with seeing the film and Donny's book.
The first time I saw the Osmond Brothers perform this song was back in 1978, in Las Vegas. My father made sure we were in the first row, right at the stage. At the end of this song, the brothers belted out an additional "Al-right!" I was so excited and couldn't help myself, calling out "Al-right" right back at them ... .and then Merrill may eye contact with me and did another "Al-right." He was and still is my favorite Osmond, and not just because of the "Al-right" - Ha! Anyway, with regards to the version in this video, with Jimmy doing Merrill's part ..... it's just not the same. Nothing against Jimmy, but an Osmond Show without Merrill is just not an Osmond show.
You 😂are sing guys who are you guys me don't know you anymore I forgot about you guys now me hurts so bad I can't remember you now who is the most cute honey ✈ you are crazy guys miss someone like the topper band you guys are not the topper guys that me fall in love with someone who me aew is on my TV show wes
With these guys.. they are always able and do their best! Merrill was sick at the time. I believe that the time he had some issues with his heart. Anyway, look at him nowadays..Terrific and still touring solo and with his brothers.
you guys are still the best group ever and I miss Alan and Wayne and I can't wait to see Merrill and jay in Somerset England on the twenty third of august 😍🤗🤗
The Osmond brothers were an explosive electrifying act! Exactly why it was diminished to showcase the Donny and Marie thing for 30 years was never explained. Any changes should have been to throw Jimmy in much sooner with the brothers. Pushing Marie on rock and rollers sent millions of Osmond fans to the hippies.
🤣🤣 my irreverent bit is when they hiked their legs up & the music made that specific “note” it looked like they were um, passing gas🤣. Still love them though, with the upholstery jackets and interesting choreography.
Completely weird. Whenever I Iift my leg like that (0:10-0:30) I make a big fart. And what does the baritone sax do on every leg lift? A big deep farty note. Weird. Have a listen.
Amazing Song & Dancing Thank You For Sharing !

I'm so glad I grew up in the 70s.
I agree. '70s songs and artists were absolutely great!
Me too!
That's debatable. (that you grew up).

He was sick. He had a heart attack in early 1980 and did not tour that year.
I didn't know Merrill had a heart attack ! Thanks for the answer Trina -
Wow, that was sort of young to be having a heart attack.
Yea when they lost all there money and had to go back out and tour it was too much for him to handle.
I thought it was a severe panic attack..
