It's crazy when they look back on the Celtics' 17 titles, his name hardly ever gets mentioned, and is arguably a top 5 Celtic all time, let alone, one of the greatest big men to ever play the game. So underrated and underappreciated, like most great players prior to the 80s era to the present smh
In Game 1 of the 1976 Finals, Cowens became only one of four centers to record a triple-double in the NBA Finals, the others being Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, and Wes Unseld. On another note, Artis Gilmore is the only center (and player) to record a Finals triple-double in the ABA.
All-time underrated player. This guy's skill set and motor would have worked in ANY era. He would have out worked guy's even if they were more talented then him, tho his talent level was actually really good.
Average is more meaningful than total. Dave Cowens is 8th in regular season rebounding and 6th in playoff rebounding. He also averaged close to 18 points.a game and was a skilled passer.
Nice to see some hoops before the ridiculous 3 pt shot destroyed the balance, rhythm and purpose of the game. Never has one rule change been so devastating to a sport, as if MLB had declared a home run worth, not 1, but 1.5 runs.
Dave Cowens won his MVP over a prime Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He was that damn good.
agree
BTW, Wilt, Russell, Walton and Kareem, today Jokic, are all fine passers. But Dave is probably the best passing C on the move, dribble.

Supposedly, Cowens was hung like a farm donkey.

His outside game was a thing of beauty. He mesmerised a few centers with this particular skillset.
He could dribble & pass on the run too. And nail a driving hook as well.

GREAT VIDEO SIR COWENS WAS A BEAST VERY UNDERATED!!!!!
He would thrive in today's NBA as a small ball center... plug his skill set in with the current Celtics of Tatum and Brown...Wow!
Definitely agree with that !
Yup a lot of big men in todays game may have the same skill set but lack his toughness, grit, and hustle.
Man could we use a Cowens on this team!!! We have been close during the Brown/Tatum/Smart Era but we need a Cowens type to get the ring
Great work!
Steve Kuberski made number 33 famous fo the Celtics :).

Interesting I’ve never heard it put like that but it makes sense.
Well said. Totally agree.
There's no question that these games are much better to watch than the current NBA.
yeah, if there were at least 10- 15 home runs a game. LOL
Cowens could jump out of the gym.
How did they not save Havlicek number
5:05
A had sign card of him
These were highlights??
Picking up full court? Is that legal in the nba?
Always.
