It's always nice to see Nate Thurmond. I didn't know he had such range, although I suppose I should have given it was said he was the perfect blend between Bill Russell defensively and Wilt Chamberlain offensively. In my opinion, there was no one more chiseled in the history of the Association, not even Wilt. Nate really lived up to his nickname as it was said he was built like granite and the best screener in his time. Some other candidates that come close in terms of looking (almost) as cut were Alonzo Mourning and David Robinson, but even they seem to pale next to Nate The Great. Also, the unis the Cavs have on in this video are some of the best in their history!
While watching, remember that this was Thurmond at the end of the career. He was no longer the 20 ppg 20 rebound pg player that he was with the Warriors and he was playing against the MVP.
In '76 the shoes were greatly advanced over what they were just a few years before, when they were wearing the Converse Chuck Taylors as a competition shoe, and not as retro chic. The Adidas Superstars/Pro Models were quality athletic footwear.
3:54, That is one sick, sick hook shot by Nate Thurmond, off the backboard into the middle of the rim and down the net it went. That was ugly, but it still counted. I would be so mad if somebody made that shot on me. The damn thing was so ugly that it was beautiful. Excuse my indecent language. 08-09-2022, 6:08AM EST, Tuesday
Not to mention Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame member Marvin "Mendy" Rudolph providing commentary. This NBA referee of 22 years was the first to work over 2000 NBA games. He also made 22 consecutive NBA Finals appearances. Mr. Rudolph was also the driving force behind the NBA replacing "zebra" striped referee shirts with gray shirts.
@@kenneth7826 I’m a younger dude, I would still out Cowens above KG tho. Maybe if KG was drafted by the C’s and he got more chances to win he would be better tho.
@@iceman6748 good morning..dave cowens had excellent speed..he could hit that jumper...had a nice hook shot..i always wondered why he didn't go it more often.....huge part of the celtic tradition ..number 18......kg and cowens..both in the hall of fame where they belong...peace..wear your mask 😷...its for real......
They gives you much different strengths. Cowens was more agressive defender and fierce rebounder who gives you shooting, passing and hustle but not efficient scoring. McHale wasn't as good defender as Cowens, but still was very good and his scoring game was phenomenal. Not as good passer as Cowens of course.
Dave cowens was munch better then mchale... Cowens better at farther jump shots, better rebounder, passer, defender, hustle, speed ,everything besides inside post scoring. Cowens is top 5-6 center all time
No. McHale had the "torture chamber" down low. Best post moves EVER. Watch some videos. He averaged over 26 one year while shooting over 60% from the field.
This is an old washed-up Thurman and he still giving Dave cowens some trouble pretty sure he played for Chicago for a while after he left golden state and then Cleveland where he retired

Yet he still held his own against him! Thurmond was a monster, even past his prime.
imagine those players having the shoes we have now, they'll be running and pivoting soo much quicker than here,
And if they allowed the "Euro step".

It’s funny to think that the travel called at first shot would probably go uncalled now days for the most part
Dave Cowen's really was faster then most centers he had to be he was undersized
I thought he was 6ft10

It's so awesome that Brent Musburger is calling the game.
I love Brent!

Hondo was a beast. Nate was perhaps the greatest defender in NBA history
All time Celtics starting 5? Cousy, Hondo, Bird, Cowens, Russell would be formidable.
That's probably right choice, although I'd argue that Garnett was even better than Cowens.
Chris Land...not bad.....✌

Nate Thurmond at the end of his career causing Cowens to have a bad game.
You must have been watching a different game then. Cowens ate up Thurmond and ALWAYS "fafoozled" Big Wiltie!
Trying to debate that Dave Cowens was better then Kevin Mchale. I think Cowens is actually better.

Transport these refs to the future so travelling can be called again.
this game was decided by very poor officiating.
I never thought I'd ever say this, but # 33 on Boston sucks
