Years later i wonder. Are you still animating? Did you migrate somewhere new? Art school? Did you follow your passions? Are you okay? I might be whistling into the void a little, who knows if you ever check back here. But if you do, know you're touching people to this day with your work. I hope you're out there happy somewhere. 💙💜💙
the twenty stories high thing, it' from MEGAMAN 2, at the start of the game it pans up all the way to the top where megaman is standing on top of a skyscraper over looking a city where there was just abunch of explosons.
As somebody who's seen the Protomen play live twice in one week (First in Reno, NV then the next at PAX 2012 in Seattle, WA), there's no question as to how pants shittingly awesome they are live. If you ever get a chance to see them live, even if it's in some crappy-hole-in-the-wall bar downtown, for Christ sake, GO FUCKING SEE THEM LIVE.
@westerfield7: crowds form in Protomen songs like, five times per album. XD In Act II, the extra narration talks about how the robots took pretty much all of the human jobs as the first stage of Wily's takeover. I could believe that people who have nothing to do all the time would just follow something interesting. It reinforces that the overwhelming majority of people in the Protomen's universe are content to be sheep.
"Even here it is not safe. Even this grave has been defaced. Someone has written on this stone, in some angry hand, 'Hope rides.... ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE'!" Love that part!
I didn't say they screwed up the art, i just (being the nerd I am) noticed an inconsistency and pointed it out. I really like her work and it's almost perfectly what I imagine when I listen to the music. I prefer to ask questions about imperfections in a creative work and not assume what others are thinking.
When they performed about two years ago at MAGFest, they acted out this whole thing on stage. I'm pretty sure Mega Man and Protoman just talked and Proto tried to convince him it was useless to save the people who don't fight for themselves and would rather die than watch his brother do something as futile as that, so he took Mega Man's blaster and held it against himself while Mega Man shot him.
*cue gushing mountains of praise* But seriously, it's obvious that you've gotten even better with sprites 'n whatnot since the Unrest video. Excellent, excellent work. Oh, and that guy in the aviators is a TOTAL badass.
Regardless of what anyone says beyond my comment... the music you use is awesome, and the visual you give it is undoubtedly just as awesome. For what its worth, well done
I know I already posted it on newgrounds but still Excellent work kimmy, the story you portrayed just fit the music so well. Please keep up the good work
As a long-time Mega-Fan, that is easily one of the most inspiring videos I've ever seen. A worthy reminder that all evil needs to triumph is for the good to do nothing, and all it needs to fall is for the good to rise up.
I liked the subtitles. I liked the references to the other songs on the album, the ref to Hope Rides alone notwithstanding for its obviousness. I LOVED the Megaman RAWKFACE he busts out for the long notes. The anime part was only jarring because of the understandable but still sudden shift in art style. Your storyboarding was fantastic as well. Forget the haters. FANTASTIC JOB.
You have brought the music to life very well... Pretty much before these I had a image of what the story looked like. Bravo on creating the perfect image to this. And long live the Protomen
@DaMojoCat: Yes, this. Thank you. It's also the words that Dr. Light sings in the background as Mega Man sings 'Even here it is not safe / Even this grave has been defaced / Someone has written on this stone / In some angry hand.'
You did an amazing job, it sent chills down my spine. I almost teared up. I wish you made videos for the songs after. Seeing Protoman and Megaman fight would be so epic.
You Protomen videos are AWESOME! I discovered them through your videos and immediately bought both the albums! Thank you and I hope we'll see more from you :)
This and the previous video for "Unrest In The House of Light" give me chills, their amazing. I agree with others that you should maybe try to do the other songs on this album. A full length version of this would be fantastic. I just discovered this band last night, and as a lover of Rock Opera and video games this was like the perfect story for me. You did a great job with the animation.
I know The Protomen are working on an Act III album, but I think it should continue with this: Dr. Light creates Megaman X before shortly dying afterwards and leaving a message for X that he is humanity's last hope against Wily. But being the pacifist he is, X believes he cannot do it alone and spends at least two songs of the album trying to convince Mega Man to join him (and Zero, who has recently broke off of Wily's ranks) but the latter refuses at first, believing Protoman's last words.
From the song Hold Back the Night it sounds like Roll will have the task of convincing Megaman to come out of hiding and give humanity another chance. Also, I don't quite like the idea of Megaman and Megaman X existing at the same time since they're both effectively the same character. Perhaps in one of the songs someone begs him to be a hero once again and he responds with something along the lines of "I'm not a hero anymore." and then people take to calling him X as in 'ex' hero.
It would have been really cool if there had been a finalized act 3 to this story, but we all know how it is from playing or watching others play the video games. I love that this exists!
I've watched this thing probly 40 or 50 times. I still get a little teary eyed when he's standing at the grave reading his big brother's headstone, I can see alot of things in that shot, the sadness in his eyes, fury in his movements, Revenge in his stance, just to name a few, and thats just him. The enviornment and people are a whole other list all together.
Seriously, you are embarking in an awesome endeavor that is greatly appreciated! Continuing to make more of these would just be too great! I'm subscribing to keep up with your work.
You Protomen videos are AWESOME! I discovered them through your videos and immediately bought both the albums! Thank you and I hope we'll see more from you :) BTW the non-sprite style stuff was pretty good as well!
Fantastic! Just can't believe the effort you've put in. The Protomen are wonderful and you've given their music some great visuals. Please do more! :o)
@strife437 the linear notes with the CD tell the story, for those who would hear it, those who would oppose the robots, those who would challenge their power
@DarkEyedBlues: Thank ya. I thought about the helmet, which the notes of 'Funeral for a Son' mentions was taken to Protoman's makeshift grave. I suppose I always imagined that it was buried, being that it was the only thing the people would have HAD to put into a grave. However, the Protomen have such a powerful impact on many different people. I couldn't hope to perfectly recreate the details of everyone's imaginations. :) @darkchiron: Thank you, and thanks for trying to defend me, lol. :D
@Quarell2 Based on the vocals and considering that Megaman has basically decided that his current situation is so unacceptable that he's going to change it with violence all by himself, I'd say uber pissed would be the correct emotion to portray. If I were going to depict this live, I'd be shifting from determination to anger. Channeled rage (fury?!) is coming in the next part. He's about to tear apart everyone in his way and use their severed limbs as clubs! I'd say anger works. ;)
I understand why he thinks anger will solve things. He thinks humanity's last hope had died, so he decides he needs to finish what he started. Which leads up to the battle between Protoman and Megaman. Which leads to Megaman against Wily.
@VegetaAlex Well, they've got The Gambler for women's vocals (she did Emily and the female chorus in Act II), but I somehow doubt the Protomen will introduce Roll to their canon. They have flat out said that there is no way they will ever use Bass, haha. ;)
@AdrianTepes21 I do have a couple of the citizens starting the chant a bit before the majority of them pick up after 'The fight of PROTOMAN,' but I think I was fairly accurate to the booklet notes... @musicalbee2003 The only lines Dr. Light has in this song are in the background during the grave scene, and Mega Man is certainly not singing them. Thanks for your guy's input, tho. ^.^
Right? I mean, these are some big undertakings, I'm not surprised this uploader didn't finish it, but you'd think SOMEONE would've tried to do more of this kind of thing... also your picture makes me giggle.
@mythril225 Yes, it's from the cd 'Makeup and Vanity Set Presents The Protomen,' and is available wherever fine Protomen merchandise is sold. (Website, Amazon, myspace).
@Cthulhupunk No actually it is the people. It started as the robots those speakers are the ones that originally say it and then the people turn the message around to speak for themselves. The song is called the Will of one but it shows how the will of one person can change many. The people saying it are the same ones grouped around him in the last song telling him to kill Protoman. Which makes him realize he inspired them but they still don't get it.
I'm not sure how I feel about the chant. they could be saying it to wily, telling him they've realized the whole v for vendetta thing, "people should not fear their governments, governments should be afraid of their people," or if they're addressing megaman, telling him they're ready for him to make a difference and that they'll support him unlike his brother. not saying they actually follow through, but...
@VegetaAlex Hey, thanks! I was honestly feeling kinda bad about my lil doodles. Nice to know not EVERYONE hates them, lol. Anyway, I think I'll still be leaving them out in the future. ;)
@Goatmon Alright, you get to tell me I don't have a lot of imagination, ONCE, because I checked out your videos and you have a nice beard. While I'm honestly pretty happy with how it turned out, I can admit that I could have done more with it. This is only my second animated video, and the second thing I've made with Flash ever, so I'm glad I have room to grow. Thank you for your constructive criticism. :)
"the problem with you rock, is that you care for the human scum to much to give them and wily what they truly deserve. but maybe that is your redeeming quality as well."
@ChaosDirge Because 'Hope Rides Alone' was the only one of their songs that already had a music video. I'd like to finish the cd and then circle around to do it, tho, and also 'Funeral for a Son.' :)
Years later i wonder.

No response in 4 years that's not a good sign =/

This is better in its 4 minutes 10 seconds than most sci-fi movies are in 2 hours.
Hope Rides Alone!
When they performed about two years ago at MAGFest, they acted out this whole thing on stage. After all these years this is still one of my favourite videos to one of my favourite songs. Thanks for creating this!
*cue gushing mountains of praise* But seriously, it's obvious that you've gotten even better with sprites 'n whatnot since the Unrest video. Excellent, excellent work.
Oh, and that guy in the aviators is a TOTAL badass.
I wish you could’ve animated at least the rest of Act 1.
I'd love to see you tackle Act 2. I imagine it as drastically different from this- a neon, colourful, oppressive city, that at night goes pitch black.
Regardless of what anyone says beyond my comment... the music you use is awesome, and the visual you give it is undoubtedly just as awesome. For what its worth, well done
I really can't pick which of these AMVs I like better, both are so well done.
such chills on the line "the fight of protoman"
First time I ever understood that line. And the people chanting behind megaman giving him strength, chills.
I just saw the Protemen live (March 6, Glasslands in Brooklyn) and they were mind-blowing. My arm hurts like hell now! Worth it, though.
Thia is utterly amazing. Maybe hope doesn't ride alone after all.
I know I already posted it on newgrounds but still
Excellent work kimmy, the story you portrayed just fit the music so well.
Please keep up the good work
I couldn't imagine a better visualization of this piece ;).
Great and awesome work, and, like everyone is saying, please keep it up!
We have control!
Man. I really want a video of the final confrontation.
Excellent work again dear. I believe I noticed a few sprite cameos in here, including half of you.
As a long-time Mega-Fan, that is easily one of the most inspiring videos I've ever seen. A worthy reminder that all evil needs to triumph is for the good to do nothing, and all it needs to fall is for the good to rise up.

I LOVED the Megaman RAWKFACE he busts out for the long notes.
The anime part was only jarring because of the understandable but still sudden shift in art style.
Your storyboarding was fantastic as well.
Forget the haters. FANTASTIC JOB.
Very nicely done for both of them! I think the drawn part shows Mega Man's facial expressions more then a sprite would do
Wow, just found this. You made me feel some real emotion there, it's not an easy thing to do. Thank you.
You have brought the music to life very well... Pretty much before these I had a image of what the story looked like. Bravo on creating the perfect image to this. And long live the Protomen

@Goatmon: I'm not sure ANYTHING could do Panther's voice true justice, but he does sing 'As I walk through these city streets.' :)
I know The Protomen are working on an Act III album, but I think it should continue with this: Dr. Light creates Megaman X before shortly dying afterwards and leaving a message for X that he is humanity's last hope against Wily. GENIUS! you should write to the protomen!
From the song Hold Back the Night it sounds like Roll will have the task of convincing Megaman to come out of hiding and give humanity another chance. Perhaps in one of the songs someone begs him to be a hero once again and he responds with something along the lines of "I'm not a hero anymore." and then people take to calling him X as in 'ex' hero.
Nah dude, they've always been separate characters. Just having he outright flip to "X" doesn't work for me.
but if i staaaaaaaaaaay here with you, then i will leave them to their doom! love this song its so epic
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU I LOVE YOU THANK YOU!!! God, I'm crying...it's so beautiful

these videos are ridiculously amazing. RIDICULOUSLY AMAZING.
You did an amazing job with this and "Unrest." Whether or not it's you, I hope someone continues these videos.
I can't handle this much epic-ness in one sitting.
Nice job on the flash man, also really enjoyed the original artwork, you have some nice artistic talent and I hope to see more of it.
You should really do the entire album since these first 2 are very very good keep up the stupendous work!!!!
Seriously, you are embarking in an awesome endeavor that is greatly appreciated! Continuing to make more of these would just be too great! I'm subscribing to keep up with your work.
This is freakin awesome. You did a really great job with both these videos. I hope you do more!
You Protomen videos are AWESOME! I discovered them through your videos and immediately bought both the albums! Thank you and I hope we'll see more from you :) BTW the non-sprite style stuff was pretty good as well!
I still want to see more like this, I know they take a long time, but darnit these are so awesome!
I simply have no words for that!
Amazing,as the very concept of The Protomen! ^^
The people at 0:53 are like,"He's good!"
love this really good to have a video of this story really helps clear some confusion and hope you make more kickass vids like these
I get such goosebumps from listening to the music of the protomen. Amazing.
Only one word can explane the awsomeness of this... Epic
Kimmy,
These are really awesome, keep it up!
Fantastic! Just can't believe the effort you've put in. The Protomen are wonderful and you've given their music some great visuals. Please do more! :o)
As someone who did in fact see them at a crappy hole-in-the-wall bar in downtown KCMO, I can confirm that pants were shat.
@strife437 the linear notes with the CD tell the story, for those who would hear it, those who would oppose the robots, those who would challenge their power
Amazing work sir!
This was good, I look forward to seeing more.
Wow... that was friggin' cool!

I Gotta say, Megaman calmly walking through the city during Panther's soaring vocals does not really do it justice.
I understand why he thinks anger will solve things. He thinks humanity's last hope had died, so he decides he needs to finish what he started. Which leads up to the battle between Protoman and Megaman. Which leads to Megaman against Wily.
awesome video! i love it^^ fits extremely well into the song!

make more of this videos plese i have to see megaman killing protoman
why would you watch brother fight brother?
ColdSpark824
Because there is no hero left in man.
LOL thats true
Hope rides alone
OMG where are the rest of these?!
Excellent work! Keep at it!
I love this video so much... well done!!! :D
Ohmegoodness! You need to do all the songs!!!
Oh my fuck I'm so glad you made these things.
My band is opening for these guys next Sunday in Chicago, it's going to be epic!
The crowd chanting always gets me. It's a shame they don't follow through.
@Cthulhupunk No actually it is the people. It started as the robots those speakers are the ones that originally say it and then the people turn the message around to speak for themselves. Oh gods, this is fantastic!
I would love to see way more of these!
@VegetaAlex Hey, thanks! I was honestly feeling kinda bad about my lil doodles. Nice to know not EVERYONE hates them, lol. Anyway, I think I'll still be leaving them out in the future. ;)
196 people were Megaman's hope 6 people couldn't understand the truth of megaman's amazing lyrics.
i wouldn't have got the megaman metaphors if not for this video
Holy shit this is 10 years old
Oh, and I'd especially love to see one for "Vengeance" :)
I've always imagined Vengeance to be Megaman in complete fucking savage killing mode, and if you do that song I really hope it ends up that way.
the volume wont go high enough to listen to this or any of the Protomen songs!
What're you talking about man that Queen tribute was fucking awesome! But regarding Ep. 3 I THINK they have a sneak peak out there somewhere.
1:08 Blonde guy thinking "Oh shit, there are singing robots now. We are so screwed."
Awesome job :D
They should pay you to do an animation based on the feature, kinda like the daft punk discovery one, would be sweet!
Nice. Truly hope you try your hand at the rest of the tracks.
Increible, hasta lagrimas se me salen.
awesome can't wait for the next one
Simply badass. Nuff said.
"the problem with you rock, is that you care for the human scum to much to give them and wily what they truly deserve. but maybe that is your redeeming quality as well."
Man I can't wait!
@ChaosDirge Because 'Hope Rides Alone' was the only one of their songs that already had a music video. I'd like to finish the cd and then circle around to do it, tho, and also 'Funeral for a Son.' :)
Hope Rides Alone.
First the Proto.
Now the O-Mega.
This. Is. SICK! gr8 job
